Crossroads and Ancient Paths

"This is what the LORD says: Stand at the crossroads and look;
ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is,
and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.
But you said, 'We will not walk in it.' "
Jeremiah 6:16

Lord, when all seems to fall around me, help me to remember that I did indeed stand and look and ask for the ancient paths, the good way. That's why I'm home with my children, teaching them, and making a home for my husband. Help me not to falter in my belief in what you've chosen me to do and in what I've committed to do for you and for them.

Thank you God,
Laura

More signs of spring

We're seeing more signs of spring. The children were quite excited to find tulip leaves coming up through the dirt in the middle of the front yard. It will all seem quite magical this year since it's our first spring here.

Crocus...The Hope of Spring

Just thinking of Spring gives my heart a little pitter pattery flutter of happiness. Just this morning, on my way to the library, I was thrilled to see that the park's floor had transformed into a carpet of lilac crocus. Ah the little crocus. What a joyful reminder that Spring will indeed return.

Frugal Depression Cooking... Dandelion Salad

With Spring around the corner, and my Amy bringing me the first little Dandelion flowers, I thought a new recipe would be in order.

I'd like to introduce you to Clara, a 94 year old lady, who lived through the Great Depression. She has made a series of videos on Depression cooking. I've viewed several on You Tube. I've always wondered about Dandelion greens. In this video, Clara will show you how to make a Dandelion Salad that looks delicious.

Give it a try. I'm going to just as soon as enough Dandelions show up!

Blessings of Frugality to you!

Kings, Murders, Wars and Treachery

Ugh, I'm up to my eyeballs in kings, murders, wars, and treachery!

I'm almost done with 2 Kings. I thought the Law was hard to read. Give me chapter upon chapter of the Law and let me forget the king after king of whom was said, "...did evil in the sight of the Lord".

I'm not feeling very inspired to write. I just found it so very sad that bad kings followed in their fathers' footsteps if they were bad; but, even most of the sons of the good kings turned away from the Lord. Then, a king would come along and do good, seemingly all on his own.

It makes me conscious of the example I set for my children. I think that perhaps the good kings must have been too distracted to be good fathers. While I'm not a father, I do need to be careful not to be too distracted as a mother. Many things can take my attention. I need to make certain that I'm focusing on the things that will last and will bless my family and the Father.

Chicken, Potatoes and Gravy and Carrots

We made an absolutely delicious dinner tonight; and, it was so easy. We are blessed to own Saladmaster Cookware which makes it possible to cook without added grease or water.

I preheated my electric skillet to 400 degrees. Then I put 4 chicken breasts (w/bones) in the skillet. No oil or spray is needed with Saladmaster. I put the lid on and cooked them for about 20 minutes.

Then, after turning the chicken over, my husband cut up 6-8 potatoes on the number 3 cone. So, you'd have to cut your potatoes up with a knife until they were about a quarter inch thick and about an inch long.

So, anyway, he put the potatoes right on top of the chicken, covered it, turned it down to about 250 and let it cook for another 10 or 15 minutes. When done, he spooned the potatoes into a covered dish. While he deboned the chicken breasts, I made gravy with the bit of broth left in the bottom. Gravy is so good this way without all the extra calories of oil or fat. We added cooked carrots and had a feast.

Blessings,
Laura

I Think I'm Figuring This Blog Thing Out.

I think that I'm feeling moved to keep both blogs. I tend to write some of the more "what's on my heart" things on Wordpress. I tend to write more of the homemaking and just for fun type things on Blogger. I think that perhaps this is leading from the Lord. There are, after all, different sides to each woman's personality, life, and experiences.

So, from here at Blogger, let's have fun with homemaking, cooking, and such. Just know that Jesus Christ is so much a part of me, I'm sure He'll spill over into this blog just as much. Isn't that what it's all about after all?

In the love of Christ,
Laura
