It's the First of July!

July first is officially the first day of the new school year in Missouri. If you're a public school teacher or parent, that probably doesn't matter one iota to you. BUT, if you're a homeschooling parent, you can start recording all of the educational activities your child does on July 1st.*

If you're new to homeschooling, or just considering it, know that it is so worth it. You can find information about homeschooling and your state's requirements at the Homeschool Legal Defence Association website.

So, happy new year homeschool families!

Edited to add:

*My friend, Deb, reminded me that there was a change in the Missouri law awhile back.  The school year goes a calendar year from when you start, I believe.  If you live in Missouri, please double check; don't take my word on it.  ~smile~

I've been doing this so long, I still use July 1 - June 30.

  1. Well Happy Homeschooling Day to you! I hope it is going well and the kids are holding interest!!
We start the new school year in August around my home, so we got awhile left of our summer. Yeah! This mom needs a much needed break. We do however do review on one subject once a week, just so we don't forget everything we learned!!
    Have a great week!
    Blessings,
    Amy

  2. Happy New Year to you Laura. We don't have a lot of people homeschooling over here in the UK but the few I have met myself have been such dedicated and devoted people. I admire you all and wish you every success.
    Lots of love

  4. Hi Amy,

I think the one subject a week is a great way to review. Our family won't officially start for a few weeks yet. I do, however, write down and count every hour that is educational. It helps meet the 1000 minimum requirement here in Missouri. Now, I'm going to pop over to your blog before I start dinner.

    Blessings to you,

    Laura

  7. I think they might have changed that law a few years ago, might want to double check. I think it is now just ONE CALENDAR YEAR from the day your start.

  8. Hi Deb,

Yeah, I thought about that after I wrote it. I still go July 1 to June 30. I'll make a note on the post.

I saw someone while I was driving the other day that reminded me of you. I really miss you!

    Blessings to you my friend,
