An Imperfect Christmas

Dear Friends,
I'm very reflective this year.  A month ago I lost a dear friend to Heaven.  Three weeks ago tonight, my Mother-in-Love joined her.  Mother was very much a part of our little family.

I just cannot seem to get it together this year.  Not a gift purchased yet except two little stocking stuffers bought in October and gifts for our pastors.

I'm embracing an imperfect Christmas and focusing on Him.  I'll make Christmas for the family.  It's just going to be a bit different this year.  And that is okay.

Blessings from The Cottage,
Laura

  2. We've had several years lately where we've lost several family members in one year, or lost close friends right at Christmas, and, yes, all of what you said is true. It IS hard to get it together. It's hard to focus and do what you normally would because nothing is 'normal' anymore. And, yes, it will be different. It will always be different from this point forward. And, yes, all of that is okay because God's there...holding you...helping your through the difficult times. God bless you, my friend. I love you and you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers this glorious Christmas season. (((HUGS))) <3

  6. Sometimes it can be hard, but the only way past grief is to go through it (which I'm sure you know). It is perfectly ok to scale back the holiday trappings and spare your energy for more pressing emotional moments as they arise. Consider it a temporary refinement of priorities - do just enough on the most important matters, and nothing more. Next week will be a bit easier, and next month, and next year the holidays can be more "festive" and not so reflective, if you desire. I hope your family accepts these changes and supports you, too. The first holidays after a loss are hard, I know.

  7. Laura,
Please know that it is okay to take a step back at this time. During the Christmas season right after my Dad passed away I decided that instead of putting up my tree, I would enjoy the Christmas lights around the community. It gave me a different perspective and I truly enjoyed the decorating efforts of my neighbors and friends.
