Makin' Do Without Heat... Temporarily

A week and a half ago, before the chimney had been cleaned so we could have our first fire of the year, we awoke to snow and a very cold house.  The propane had run out!
I just got up, put a kettle of water on to boil for doing breakfast dishes, set the kettle on to boil, and preheated the oven for biscuits.  The kitchen was warm. ~smile~  By evening, hubby and landlord had the propane and the woodstove ready to go.

The moral of the story, do what you can, with what you've got, where you are!

  2. Great moral to the story.... I am afraid we live in a time that many would not have any idea what to do to make do..Nothing more cozy than a warm kitchen smelling of fresh baked goods...Blessings!

  3. brrrrrr. I love it. Do what you can with what you've got. After the festivities of Christmas, we got home and had almost nothing in the fridge. The husband found a ham steak, some crackers and cheese and boy if we didn't have the tastiest lunch. That is my goal for this coming year. Make do more. Thanks for stopping by! Heather

    Hi Heather,

We had almost nothing in the fridge after the Christmas leftovers were done. I spent nearly all the grocery budget for the week on Christmas Eve and Christmas day!

Today's lunch is homemade bread and a soup made with the last bits of ham, the gel from the ham, an onion, and the last 5 or 6 potatoes I could find. I expect it to be absolutely yummy.

Do what you can with what you've got where you are!

God bless you and happy new year!

  5. Hi Patty,

I guess that's what blogs like ours are for, to help the younger women to love their homes, their husbands, their children and to take care of them all.

    Blessings,

  6. Hi Lisa,

Yes, we have wood and propane now. It's also in the 50's. I do wish we'd have some snow. Don't tell folks around here I'm wishing. I might get shunned. ~giggle~

  8. Yes, it really does help to have a good attitude, Annie. I sure wish I could say I always have one. Sometimes I get bit by the grumpy bug! A little praise and worship from the heart can help me stomp the bug if I'll do it. ~smile~

    Blessings for a terrific weekend.

  9. You are the sweetest woman, Laura!

The snow must have been beautiful. I am thankful things got fixed there, so now you can enjoy a beautiful fire!

  11. Use it up wear it out, make it do or do without! Also just place your trust in the provision of God and he will provide everything you need. Also he will provide some wants in your life too. He wants to bless his children. He truly cares about us. When you are in need, he listens to your prayers and answers them. Maybe not soon enough for you to think but God is a on-time-God. He knows the prayer you are going to pray before it even comes out of your mouth. Nothing has ever occurred to God. Take Courage, for he is going to bless you abundantly.

  13. Dear Laura, It is a great gift to be content in whatever state we are found in (Lack or Plenty)
We have never run out of propane, but we have a wood stove, because many years ago we were without power for a very long time. Now that was a learning curve!

  14. Hi Roxy,

You just reminded me to check the fire! It was in need of a couple of logs. We have snow today, just a couple of inches, and it's beautiful. The cold coming through the windows threatens, but the fire is cheery and crackling!

    Blessings,

    Laura

  17. I miss wood heat. This is the only place I have ever lived where we didn't have it. I've been in this house for 15 years and there has been many a time I longed for wood heat. We will be including it in our new home, but that is about 5 or 6 years out.

  18. Hi Ann,

We've lived with wood heat and without it. I definitely prefer it above any other heat we've had. Second would be old-fashioned radiators.

I'll be back to visit your blog and will most likely link up on Thursday.

Thank you for talking back! God bless you and your family.
