A Thrifty Week at Harvest Lane Cottage #38

Hello Ladies!

Can you believe another thrifty week has come and gone? Spring is in it's height of beauty. We've had quite a few of these little dandelions popping up in our side yard. Do you remember the delight they brought as children? Oh how we loved their sunny brightness and puffing at their fluffy seeds and wishing. How do you see them now, glorious or annoying? It's all in how you think about it, isn't it?

Living a thrifty and frugal lifestyle can be a challenge or a pain. We get to decide. How do you look at it? Honestly, I look at it both ways. I'm doing my best to see it as a rewarding challenge. My thriftiness allows me to be a homeschool mom, and it allows my husband to do the work he wants to do. Here are some things I did this week.

~  I received a DVD that my kids have been wanting, Everafter, for $.49 + 1 credit from Swap a DVD. You can join for free.

~ Oatmeal is always a simple low-cost breakfast.

~ My children found lots of yard sale treasures for good prices.

~ I found a new Black and Decker food processor for $5. Now I just have to figure out how to use it!

~ I found out that a book I'd like to read is available at my local library. Now I just have to wait until it is checked in.

~ My son put up a clothesline for me on the porch. I don't have poles, so this was a frugal option for me. I tried to buy clothespins at the Dollar Tree, but they only had plastic. I'll probably check either Dollar General or Wal-Mart. I'd love to buy these Classic American Clothespins someday. They're pretty pricey, but the quality would be worth it. I expect they'd be the last clothespins I'd buy. I've been through several packages of the cheaper variety.

~ A friend loaned us her rototiller. That saved us about seventy dollars. Thank you, J!

Well, that's a bit of my week. I do hope you have a lovely weekend!

  1. Sounds like a frugal week to me. If you go to Black & Decker website you should be able to contact them and ask for the book that comes with your processor. Often though I find more info doing a google search. Hope you can figure it out.

  4. Sounds like a nice week of savings.
I have been so busy I forget to run the laundry to the line. I need to put my large note back on the dryer that says..HANG UP AND OUT TO $ave!
We sleep with a few windows open. I rise up early to open all the windows and turn on the ceiling fans. The house will cool down to the 60's with the morning air. By 8:30 I will close all the windows. The house reminds cool most of the day.. We go all night with out AC and most of the day. $aving a lot of AC usage. I also keep the blinds or curtains close where the sun is coming through. Have a great day...

  7. Hey there Laura, sounds like you got some bargains. I enjoy garage sales and op shops (second hand stores). Thanks for being such a frugal example and I find that by being frugal my husband can be home that little bit more often. Thanks for sharing this with us at Good Morning Mondays. Blessings

  13. I've often wondered who decided Dandelions were weeds and not flowers. lol! A patch of them really is quite breathtaking! Just knowing that they are weeds, and how badly they spread I do try to keep them out of my lawn. You have accomplished another thrifty week Laura, good for you!
    hugs,
    Jann
