My Daybook ~ August 17, 2015

Join us at The Simple Woman!
Dear Ladies,
Hello again! Thank you so much for visiting me. I know your time is precious. I hope you'll take a few extra moments and say hello. I love it when readers "talk back".
Do you have a prayer request, I would be happy to pray for you. Remember, Jesus said, "Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven." Matthew 18:19
May God fill you with His perfect peace and an intense awareness of His presence and His love for you this week.
Laura

Outside my window...
A gray morning.

I am thinking...
I need to continue to plan for the coming school year. There are still a few subjects I don't have ironed out. Speaking of ironing, I have a bunch to do! Never mind. I don't want to think about that right now. My to do list is always much longer than my day and my energy.
We have a fresh blank slate to begin a new school year.
I am thankful...
God kept us safe on the road when we took a quick trip to Kansas City to see Grandpa and Granny.
In the kitchen...
Red beans will be going in the Crock Pot with onions and chili spices for Monday's dinner.

I am wearing...
my black dress.

I am creating...
my new dress. That's about it. I should be able to share a photo by next week if all goes well. I know, I said that last week and the week before. I'm saying it again! ~smile~

I am going...
to take husband and kids to work, school, doctors' appointments, and parties this week as well as church, grocery shopping and the bank.... Seriously, if you have more than one vehicle, you need to stop right now and thank God. It's not easy with one. I know that when we really need another vehicle, God will provide one.

Clarification...
We homeschool our children. Emily is a senior and is taking two college classes, English 101 and College Orientation, in addition to her homeschool lessons. That's why I must take her to school. Fortunately, the classes she is taking are in our hometown and only about five miles away.

I am wondering...
still where the money for school books and tuition is going to come from... oh yeah, God! Still waiting to see. He's faithful. I've figured out how to use some of the resources I already have.

I am reading...
It's Good to Be Queen—Liz Curtis Higgs' new book. I made a big dent in it while we were in the car yesterday. It's good.

I am hoping...
to set aside time to sew. I really want to finish that dress I've been telling you about. I know. I think I said that last week, too.

I am looking forward to...
lots of birthday parties over the next three weeks. Three of my children are having birthdays.

Michael, Amy, and Emily
I am learning...
about the new writing curriculum The Power in Your Hands that I'm going to use with my 10th grader this year. I'm considering doing Spanish along with them, too.

Around the house...
laundry...laundry...laundry....

I am pondering...
how to make this last high school year with Emily more fun.

A favorite quote for today...

One of my favorite things...
FALL!
Follow Laura's board Fall -ing for Autumn on Pinterest.

A few plans for the rest of the week:
a Sonic run this afternoon for slushies, taking my son to his first day of work at his new job, a biscuits and gravy run one morning this week to celebrate the first week of school, lessons beginning, taking my daughter, Emily, to her first day of school, sewing my dress,  three birthday celebrations—one family dinner at home, a party for my soon-to-be fourteen year old Amy, and a party for a family friend's birthday.

A peek into my day...
Making pickles Saturday evening with Amy.

May the God of Shalom peace,
nothing missing, nothing broken, nothing lacking
bless you as you seek to love Jesus
with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength.

Happy at Home

  2. Hello!
Oh ironing! I'm so thankful I don't have as much of that to do as I used to, lol.
Liz Curtis Higgs is great, although I haven't read that particular book... maybe I'll look for it!
Hope you have a wonderful week!

  4. Hi Laura, I love your inspiring blog! Yes, thoughts of Fall! We're already looking forward to our favorite season. We are blessed with rather cool summers, living in the mountains, not like our family and friends suffering in other states. God is good! You mentioned homeschooling, but then you also mentioned taking one of your daughters to school. Do you homeschool? We're great supporters of home schooling. Choosing the best curriculum for each child is the best way for them to learn. God Bless, Bev

  5. Laura, I love fall too.. It wont be long , until it will be here.. I always look forward to it, but it doesn't last long enough. lol
ironing.. oh, I always have a basket full.. It is my most dreaded chore, and the one that I procrastinate in getting done.ha

My heart goes out to you, with all the driving you have to do with just one car.We should all be so thankful to have a second car. but , as you said, God takes care of us.. sending a big ole hug and prayer for your upcoming school year for each of the kids. [does Emily go to public school?]

Best wishes on getting your dress done.. Sewing..such a wonderful thing, that is so hard to find time for.. Maybe both of us will get a little sewing time soon.

  6. Laundry...laundry...laundry! There is always laundry to do. Haha!

You made pickles? Did you can them? Oh yummy! What memories you are creating each day with your kids.

I am so ready for Fall. It's been an extremely hot and humid summer. We are not use to that here.

I hope you have a good week. May God bless you in all that you do!

    Hugs to you Laura!

  8. Father God, I thank you for Annie's honesty and openness with her need. I pray for you to bring the time, money, people and resources Annie needs to replace her roof and protect her home and family. I thank you that You are the God who provides all our needs according to Your riches in Glory. We trust you to provide in the perfect timing. Thank you God! We also thank you that "all things are held together in Jesus", so we trust that you will hold that roof together until it can be replaced.

Bless you Annie, thanks so much for talking back!

  9. I miss homeschooling so much. They were some of the happiest times of my life, frustrations and all! :-) But seriously, I loved having my children home and enjoyed the excitement of August and planning a new year. Praying God's provision for your upcoming homeschool year.

It sounds like your days are full and certainly full of God's blessings.

Thank you for faithfully sharing your sweet life with all of us. :-)

  10. Thank you, Karen. I found a way to buy some of the things I needed with my PayPal balance. I also found a reduced price on one thing.

I have been homeschooling for so long, (1995), that I can't imagine what I'll do when I'm done in another five years.

  12. You're right about laundry, Amy. We did can the pickles. It was our first time. We used a mix. It was pretty easy. I just kept thinking of Aunt Bea on Andy Griffith. She had an awful time making pickles during one episode!

We had a cold front come through during a thunderstorm last night. It's actually chilly here. It's supposed to get down in the '50's. It was only 71 here today. That's unheard of in August in our neck of the woods. It's usually hovering near 100. What a wonderful reminder that autumn is coming!

    Blessings,
    Laura

  14. What a beautiful post - because the everyday things are just so beautiful. Love the quote you finish with. One car family here too and yes it gets tricky. That new Liz Curtis Higgs book is on my Amazon wish list so looking forward to it. Visiting from Whole Hearted Wednesday

  17. Soon Judy! We'll be enjoying Fall!
Work just piles up, doesn't it?
I still haven't gotten to the dress.
Today is party day for my youngest with
her little friends, then this evening, another
    party for my husband's friend.

I've got to get busy in just a few minutes and get ready for the first party.
