My Daybook August 9, 2015

Join us at The Simple Woman!
Dear Ladies,
Hello again! I am honored that you are interested in my daybooks. Each week I wonder at the many ladies that come and visit my humble blog. I am thankful. May God bring you strength, patience, hope, and perseverance during the days to come as many of us are preparing school lessons, preparing to send our children to school, or even sending a child off to college or trade school. The summer heat has been beating hard, but in another month or so, it will have to yield to the cooler temperatures of September. Fall is coming ladies! Hang on!

Outside my window...
It's pouring down rain. I was awakened early this morning by thunder rumbling. I love rainy mornings and rainy afternoons... well, as long as there isn't too much, I just love rain! Why? Well, actually, I remember years ago, waiting at the high school for my mom to pick me up after choir practice, and watching the rain pouring down through the window. I thought it was miserable. It had been raining a lot that spring. Suddenly, I just decided to love rainy days. It was a choice. Now I do! Rainy days are cocoa, baking cookies, reading a good book with the kids... at least that's how they used to be. Times have changed a bit as the kids have changed, but I still enjoy them.

I am thinking...
I need to continue to plan for the coming school year.
Historic Cave Springs Schoolhouse
I am thankful...
I have a home to keep me out of the rain and a minivan to drive in the rain.

In the kitchen...
I just might make a batch of cookies this afternoon.

I am wearing...
old clothes. I'll need to change if I go out.

I am creating...
my dress. That's about it. I should be able to share a photo by next week if all goes well. I know, I said that last week! ~smile~

I am going...
Possibly nowhere! The rain is so hard, my son may not have to work this afternoon. His morning job already cancelled.

I am wondering...
where the money for school books is going to come from... oh yeah, God!

I am reading...
Trim Healthy Mama...still...it's over 600 pages.

I am hoping...
to post a few reviews this week. I'm getting all caught up.

I am looking forward to...

I am learning...
more about the time of Moses in Egypt and about the Exodus.

Around the house...
I've got the general cleaning up that always needs to be done after a busy weekend. I also need to do some  a lot of laundry. I can't say how much I'll get done, but I must make progress.

I am pondering...
and praying for breakthrough for someone I love deeply.

A favorite quote for today...
“The real things haven’t changed. It is still best to be honest and truthful; to make the most of what we have; to be happy with simple pleasures; and have courage when things go wrong.”
Laura Ingalls Wilder

One of my favorite things...

A few plans for the rest of the week:
preparing for next school year, sewing my dress, a day of fun with my kids Wednesday if all goes well. We didn't get a summer break this year.

A peek into my day...

May the God of Shalom peace,
nothing missing, nothing broken, nothing lacking
bless you as you seek to love Jesus
with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength.

  1. It's funny because I started reading not really thinking this would be that interesting, but I found myself reading it all the way through and enjoying it. Of course, I had to go back and read the introduction then. :-) I have also had ladies comment how much they liked my posts like this. I think I see a little better now what the appeal is. It just seems so real. Makes me feel like I actually know you and your life just a little bit. :-)

Have a great week. Maybe share the rain? It's horribly dry where we are in Texas right now. I'm a little worried about wildfires - again. :-/

  2. Thank you Laura...I always enjoy your Daybook...funny, you say money for books and I say, "Where am I going to get gas money to get back and forth to school with in 2 weeks." Lean times....

ANYWAYS---not meaning to be a downer...no rain here yet...suppose to get storms later. Cookies sound good, I am going to make Oatmeal muffins. Have a blessed Monday, my friend.

  3. Hi Linda,
Oh yes, I know what you mean. Gas money is an issue, too. But education has to be paid for. It's not free, at least not homeschooling and college. You know that though. ~smile~

    Oh, I like oatmeal muffins.
Hang in there, Linda. You'll make it!

    Blessings,
    Laura

  4. Well M. E. I consider that a compliment. Thank you so much. I've been amazed just how popular these posts are. I think it's that talk over the back fence feel they have. I'll come and visit you at The Cotton Apron in a few minutes.
    God bless!

  5. Happy Monday, Laura! It's great to pop over and see what you have been up too. I love rainy days too. We did get a great little shower late this afternoon. Just enough to calm the dust and give my grass a drink. I've been busy working on school plans too. I'm going with a couple of my girlfriends this week to a used Christian curriculum book store, I hope I find something I can use. We painted our houses this weekend, so I am a bit wore out, but the houses are so pretty now, it was well worth it! God is my strength always! I love the apron your daughter Amy made, it's so cute!
I hope you are doing well and God blesses you with a delightful week! Hugs, Amy

  6. I look forward to you daybooks every week. Even though you do so much you seem so peaceful I know that that is Jesus in you. I have been lax with my daybook the last couple weeks and here it is Tues!! I've been involved in broadcasting on Periscope, a new app that has taken off like mad. Maybe I'll try and do a late Mon. daybook today sometime. Have a wonderful day.

  7. Hi Shirley, I wish I felt more peaceful! I let myself get stirred up too easily. I need to learn to rest in Jesus more each day. I've not heard about Periscope. I was about to say I'd take a look, but truthfully, with school about ready to start, I cannot add anything else!
    Have a terrific week!

  8. We woke up on the 10th to pouring rain, too.
Great quote, I've always loved Laura.
What a pretty apron - really nice job!
Hope you have a fabulous week :)

  9. Hello, Once again this Daybook idea is rather smart...
You my dear are a very active lady, even if we do not feel we have accomplished much, after re-reading your Daybook you can see you are a busy bee!
So glad your apron was a blessing to you and that Amy was able to use it as a pattern! I still use that pattern, because it is so easy and if you use a good fabric they last for a good long time!
    Hugs, Roxy

  11. Thank you, Anita. I was surprised when I drove over the river this afternoon to see the rushing water. We must have had a lot of rain up river, too. I'll visit you at Prairie Dreams in a few minutes.

  14. I enjoy the rain far more than I enjoy the cold, I grew up in quite a wet area so maybe that's why.
I enjoyed your post, I haven't done one for a while but may just again soon. I think you see the real person in them.

    Have a good day,
    Diana

  18. Laura, I never heard of Christmas Kringling before and I loved reading about it! What a wonderful tradition!

I love Little House on the Prairie and enjoyed the quote you shared.

We've had quite the summer of thunderstorms this year. Last week, we had storm after storm roll through. I admit thunderstorms can still intimidate me because when I was about 9 years old our house got hit by lightening right at the corner of my bedroom!

Laura, I lifted your situation to the Lord about a breakthrough for your loved one, knowing that He knows exactly the situation. I have a similar prayer request for someone I love very much. One thing I am constantly reminded of is never to stop praying for those situations. The Lord is always doing unseen work. Praising God for His answers.

As always, it has been a blessing to visit here. :-)

  19. Hi Karen,
As far as I know, Kringling is a term I coined myself. The kids love it.
I love Little House, too. You might like this post I wrote about Laura Ingalls Wilder's influence on me as a child.
