A Thrifty Week at Harvest Lane Cottage #47

Hello Ladies,
So good of you to visit today! It's been a very busy week. We had company, celebrated an 18th birthday, and traveled out-of-state to a funeral. It's been very busy indeed. Here's my rather short list of thrifty things during the last week or so.

~ I finished my dress!

~ We had a homemade, handmade birthday tea party at the restaurant for Emily's eighteenth birthday. She made many Pinterest worthy decorations using things we had around the house, wildflowers, and old lace scraps.

~I was chosen to review An Endless Christmas by Cynthia Ruchti.

~I read Chivalrous, another review book, by Dina Sleiman during our drive to Topeka.
~I listed some items to sell on Ebay.

~We traveled to Topeka, Kansas for my father-in-law's funeral memorial. We were able to get gas for less than $2 a gallon, stayed with family, and only had to purchase one meal on the road. He's pictured in the center with our family. May God rest his soul.
~I ripped the hem of my old dress. Rather than toss it, I cut a couple of inches off and made a new hem. It's a good thing I wear them long!

That's it for this week. What have you done this week?

Thanks for dropping in!
Laura

  1. Hi Laura, I am sorry about your Father in law.

You and your daughters are beautiful, that is a very sweet photo of you 3 together.

I bought gas yesterday for $1.81, good for my budget but it is not so good for my states economy.
We have had a thrifty week too.

  3. Glad you had a good week! Also glad you finished your dress. I need to make something for this in between season. It is too late to wear bright summer colors but too hot for cool weather duds.

  6. Oh Laura...I am so sorry for your loss. Your family will be on my prayers! I hope you get a chance to rest up from your busy week. We've been building fences and putting up a gate for our property. We still have the back to do..hopefully next weekend. It's gonna be a busy week here...we have a church harvest party at our home this weekend and then I have a mom's homeschool event to go to. Busy, Busy!
    Enjoy your week!
    Hugs, Amy

  9. So sorry for your family's loss :( I know losing a father of any kind is not easy.
Congrats on your dress, though! I love it! Where did you get the pattern for it?

I finally finished the top layer of a quilt I had been hand sewing on and mostly off since the beginning of the year! I finally connected it to the bottom piece and began sewing it with stuffing with my sewing machine...only to break not one, but TWO sewing machine needles!(*-_-) Opps!
Oh, well. At least, for now, it's usable. My youngest daughter is thrilled.
Hope the rest of your week is better!

  11. I know what you mean Anne. I should have finished this dress months ago but I'll still wear it because the fabric was a gift from my husband.

    Thank you Spicing Up.

  12. Love hearing about your sewing projects, altho' I'm strictly a patcher and repairer of rips! Last night I canned 31 quarts of applesauce, and am so thankful for my loaded shelves in the basement!
