A Thrifty Week at Harvest Lane Cottage #75

Welcome to another thrifty week at Harvest Lane Cottage. I am honored by your visit.  Each week I share my thrifty and frugal projects, ways of saving money, and my blessings from God.

I am so glad you dropped in for a visit today—or tonight!

♥♥♥
Hello! Welcome to August! Many of us are getting ready for back-to-school. It's been a bit different for me this year. This week I have one daughter who is gone at camp, one daughter, my youngest,  who started homeschool with only math and English, one son who has been working days and evenings with the local police at a local event that was estimated to bring up to 70,000 people to add to our town of 12,000! In addition, my eldest son, who lives a mile down the road, told me he plans to move to a nearby city next month! It's been interesting.

The middle kiddles, now 16 and 18, will begin school in a couple of weeks. My youngest will go to a full school schedule then, too. I still have some school planning to do before we go full swing. Well, enough about my odd week. ~smile~

I love it when y'all leave comments, so I can meet you and see your blogs, too.

Here's my thrifty week:
  • I mended some dish towels by hand while watching a history lecture.
  • I sewed new buttons on my daughter's capris.
  • I wrote a review for a book I received for free.
  • I bought fruits on sale. Do you know about Price Matcherz? They have ads for cities across the US that can help you find the best deals. Just click on your nearest city. You can then use the prices at your local Walmart.
  • I planned meals.
  • I borrowed a video and an audio CD from our local library.
  • I let my Penny play with an empty water bottle, with supervision, until she conquered it. ~smile~ It's one of her favorite toys because of the delightful crackle it makes. I make sure to take it away when it gets crushed to keep her safe.
Well, that's my thrifty week.

What are you doing in your home this week?

I enjoyed this quote from Lady Lydia this week:

"Please have a wonderful day no matter what the circumstances and remember that contentment is the practice of expressing thankfulness for every good thing, no matter how trivial. Life is too short to not care about the little touches of beauty. We can go through life thinking it is an ugly world we live in, or we can replace every disappointment by thinking about and doing something delightful."

    1. Oh my! You'll do better next week, I'm sure.

Father God, this family has had so much grief recently. I pray comfort, provision, shalom peace, and a keen awareness of Holy Spirit and your abounding love during this time. Amen.

      Hugs to you Judy!

    3. I'm so glad he holds so tightly to us Judy. Sometimes my focus slips, and I don't hold as tightly as I should.

    1. Momma was a Dachshund and poppa was a ramblin' man. Our family has had numerous discussions trying to decide just what kind of dog poppa was!

      Big hugs to you!

  6. Oh gee, where to start.... I've been using stuff from my freezer and pantry. I made calzones yesterday and froze them for easy meals. I've been shopping at used book stores to find some curriculum. I found my oldest an American History, Astronomy, 2 Bible studies and a few readers for under $20, I was so happy to find some deals. Now I need to find Business Math and English and I will be good to go. My two youngest books are all set.
Hubby and I will be taking a little camping getaway in a few days and I'm so looking forward to that. I've also been studying a lot in Romans...
Your week sounds very interesting and I'm sure in the midst of it all, you are blessed! :)
    Enjoy your weekend, Laura!
    Hugs!

  7. Son3 is home for a couple of weeks before school starts back, so we are doing things with him. We will be going to the beach for a couple of days. Since all the local schools have already begun school we will be there during the off season (There is a price break for a couple of weeks prior to Labor Day so we are taking advantage of it)

    1. That sounds wonderful Anne. I think I need to plan something with my three littles (14, 16, 18) before college starts and our schedule is more dictated!
Enjoy your time with your son.

      Blessings,
      Laura

    1. It's been an odd summer, but good. Lots of things are changing. The kids are all hs or older now. I'm trying to find my groove as a mom of older teens.
