Happy Homemaker Monday ~ February 20, 2017

The weather.... dreary... threatening to rain again... 66°.

Right now I am... enjoying a quiet house.

Thinking... about doing a little ironing.

On my reading pile...

  • 31 Verses to Write on Your Heart
  • The Elusive Miss Ellison
  • Grow in Grace

On my TV... not a thing. I don't have t.v. reception by choice.

Favorite blog post last week...

On the menu for this week....
It's not fully planned yet, but I'm thinking about these things. I'll round things out with salads and veggies. I made the cocoa for my husband this afternoon.

On my to do list...
  • Insurance and medical papers
  • school records and planning

In the craft basket...

Looking forward to this week..

  • sewing
  • reading
  • church
  • homeschool co-op

Looking around the house... Everyone is reading, studying, or working... except the dog who is napping.

From the camera...
My dear step-momma Annie and me.
On my prayer list...

  • Praying for Kristen, my friend Cheryl's niece. She's expecting a baby, has a blood clot in her lung, and has developed tachycardia. Please pray, too.
  • Salvation for family members
  • My friend Laurie's husband, Tommy, has a horrendous case of pneumonia that was complicated because he has Asbestosis. He is home from the hospital, but his asbestos spots are getting inflamed, and he has to get CT scans daily.
Devotional... Romans 15:13

"Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."

Be blessed of the Lord,
Laura

    1. You're welcome, Cheryl. You've been a great encourager, prayer sister, and friend to me, too. Kristen's gonna come through this with an awesome testimony. Just you wait and see! To God be the glory forever and ever.

    1. I'm getting ready to put the chicken on to cook this morning. I've got some odd pieces that were given to me a few months ago. I'd planned to make soup, but I think they should work for this just fine.

I always love hearing from you Mrs. Chrissy. I'll be over for a visit soon.
      Hugs,

  4. Happy Monday to you! I had a wonderful weekend and it was extra nice because my husband had today off.
We had an art retreat morning at my church and we did a wonderful project. For those that don't know, a Mezuzah is a small ornament that has a bible verse in it. I believe it's from Deut. and written on a piece of paper by a Jewish scribe. The paper is rolled up tiny and tucked inside the Mezuzah. The Mezuzah is nailed on the doorjamb of Jewish homes and is touched on the way in, as a reminder. Now, I'm not Jewish so don't quote me on the details, but this is the basic premise of it! (My best friends are Jewish). Sooooo, from that tradition came prayer boxes as pendants on necklaces, which some may be familiar with. The project we did on Sat. was along those lines. We decorated a piece of Tyvec (not the house kind, but the sturdy envelope kind- you can probably Pinterest it) on one side and printed a bible verse on the other, then rolled it onto a skewer, like a bead. Then we heat-gunned it, which made it shrink a little and harden. We did two of them and then beaded them onto a cord for a necklace. We picked two verses.
I chose two about faith and obedience. In between the two, I attached a silver butterfly charm. The necklace is so beautiful and I love that the bible verses are near my heart and that's known only by me. :)

Didn't mean to ramble, but it would be a wonderful project for families or homeschoolers.

    1. That sounds like a wonderful project! I have had prayer boxes, and know of the Jewish tradition, but did not relate the two in that way. I love handmade jewelry, that sounds like a wonderful Christmas present! Thank you for sharing here. I love Laura's blog!

    2. This is an awesome project Debby. Faith and obedience scriptures are good ones. I'll bet the necklace is beautiful. I'd love to see a photo. I'd also love to have your email so that I can respond directly to you so that you don't miss my responses.
      God bless!

  7. Hot cocoa sounds wonderful. Of course, with the unusually warm temps, perhaps I'll have to look into iced cocoa. I wonder if that is a thing. Hope you have a wonderful week!

  8. Good morning Laura, my heart and prayers for Kristen and the baby. Thank you too for the additional links to great blogs. YOu are an inspiration to me and I am learning to be more thrifty at my house. I am beginning my sewing today starting with napkins. I was surprised at the price of fabric though, even with a coupon, so I ended up with some from the end of a bolt I found at walmart. We are very sad at our house, a good friend lost his wife yesterday, and the heart break is deep and my emotions are easily moved. God is good though, and that is what I will focus on. Have a great day!

    1. Oh, G. Dazeez, may God bring comfort, hope, and grace to your friend and his family as well as to you and your family. Strange how we say we lost someone, isn't it? If they loved Jesus, we know exactly where they are. But the emptiness can tear at our hearts as we long for the time when we will see them again—alive, whole, well, and happy.

Father God, I pray for your comfort and provision during this very difficult transition. Please help the loved ones feel your presence Holy Spirit. Amen.

Thank you for your prayers for Kristen and baby.
I understand about the cost of fabric. I have a stash that I've accumulated over the years at yard sales, thrift sales, 40% off sales, and gifts from others. Walmart end cuts are good, too. I also repurpose fabric when I can.

Be blessed friend! May God bring you comfort.
      Hugs,
      Laura

And I have some mending still to do, but am doing some fun sewing projects too. I am continuing to pray for Kristen, and will be praying for your friend's husband too, that sounds like a terrible thing to go through! Hugs to you today dear friend!
