Happy Homemaker Monday ~ April 10, 2017

As I write this Sunday night...

The weather.... partly cloudy and 71°. We're expecting rain later tonight.

Right now I am... enjoying a quiet night. The family is in bed, and my husband is watching a show or something on his phone. Who would have thought twenty years ago?

Thinking... about things I'd like to do around the house.

A quote to share...
♥♥♥♥♥

"Let's make a decision to live in this moment,

to love this moment,

to enjoy those we're with right now,

or to enjoy the solitude of being alone with God."

♥♥♥♥♥

On my reading pile... Believe it or not, I don't have any review books right now! I cannot remember the last time that happened. I found A Bride Most Begrudging on my bookshelf. Someone gave it to me. It's pretty good so far.

  • Psalms and Proverbs
Favorite blog post last week...

Something fun to share... We make Resurrection Cookies every year to remember the crucifixion and the resurrection.

Blog hopping...
On the menu for this week....
I've made an inventory of what I have on hand. Still working on a menu. Here's what I know so far....

  • Monday night... Lentils and Rice
  • Tuesday night... Baked Chicken
  • Wednesday lunch... Chicken Bone Soup using leftover veggies I've saved in a plastic container in the freezer. Supper at church.
  • Thursday night... Last Supper bread and grape juice supper
  • Friday night... Date night. Kids at home will have burritos or Ramen
  • Saturday night... Taco Salad and make Resurrection Cookies

We will have spiral sliced ham for Easter dinner and I'll plan some yummies to go with it. I've had multiple requests for pie—chocolate meringue pie—all from my eldest son. ~smile~ I'm thinking about a chocolate icebox pie to keep it simple. We shall see.

On my to do list... Once again this list looks about the same as last week.
  • Balance checkbook
  • Plan menu
  • School records and planning
  • Buy groceries
  • Easter weekend planning
  • Laundry...always laundry
  • Try to fit in something from my bucket list
In the workbasket... Still working on dish sponge scrubbies. I'll have plenty for spring showers and summer weddings.
    Looking forward to this week...
I'd like to get together with a girlfriend for lemonade at Chick-fil-A. I didn't do it last week. This week I want to make it happen. I already have a friend in mind.

Looking around the house... It's a bit messy, but I'm going to clean it up. There's evidence of a family enjoying time together. The dishes are done though.
    From the camera...
Me on a very windy day!

    Devotional... Frightened of God
    On my prayer list...
    • Peace of Jerusalem and Israel
    • Ellen Kuentzel, healing from Bacterial Meningitis, brain injury, fever (See update at end.)
    • Kirsten, Cheryl's niece who is 25 weeks along and has a blood clot in her lungs, trouble breathing, and heart trouble.
    • My husband and children
    • Wisdom for President Trump
    • Peace in my home and in me

Father God, I pray that each reader will feel your presence today and hear Holy Spirit speaking to her or him. Bless each with your love and bring each to faith and trust in you, your son Jesus the Christ, and the Holy Spirit. I ask in Jesus' Name. Amen.

    Thanks for dropping by!
    Please say hello.

My most recent update on Ellen Kuentzel 4/3:
Ellen has steadily gotten better. Immediately after surgery her left side was mostly paralysed, and now she has most of her motor control, and they are doing occupational and physical therapy, helping her stand again and use her arms and legs.
April 12th they will take her off of antibiotics, and at that point most likely she will be transferred to Carthage health and wellness center, like she was last time. After that we plan on getting her plenty of therapy until she can stand and walk on her own, which will be close to six months.

    1. Love, love, love your quote! I had to laugh at laundry, always laundry! :) I am currently working on laundry. I hope to get it all done today. For at least an hour or two! ;) Your weather sounds like ours. It makes my heart happy to feel a little warmth and see things budding out. Enjoy your week!

I'll be over in just a few minutes to read about your Holy week plans. On Thursday evening, I plan to serve homemade bread and grape juice for supper. We started it when my children were toddlers. It was a way to make the Resurrection/Easter week special. I didn't know what they served for their last supper at the time, so I used bread and juice like we had at church. After taking communion with it, we would then eat it with butter and homemade jams and jellies. Hmmm... maybe I should post about this. ~grin~
It was just one little way I chose to focus on Jesus in a time of bunnies and eggs.
        God bless!

    3. Why thank you Teri! I do love the vibrant redbud tree in the background of my photo. Like many ladies, I never see a photo of myself that I like. I'm always so squinty when I smile. ~smile with squints right now~
Thanks for being my new blog friend,

    5. Nice post on a beautiful Monday morning. We have several Redbuds in our cul de sac and I love the pic of you with one. Pretty all around!

I admit to a chuckle over the 2017 trends. Wait long enough and everything comes around again! My bedroom has been navy and white (with nightstands) for some 15 yrs. I'm not a marble fan so I'll skip that- I did see a house model with marble (gold) mirrors and had a flashback to the 70's. I've always been a simple person so that hasn't changed. I do admit to loving the copper KA. I have always loved a splash of copper anywhere. My friend has one of those copper pot racks and I always loved it.....just never had a desire to clean one!!!

I've been laying pretty low for the past month and I'm debating on meeting up with a couple of friends today. I'm in a downer mood (still) and not sure I want to be Debby Downer. Hmmmm.... they're such sweeties. One of them made me a little cake yesterday. A small small round cake surrounded by cupcakes that were scooped out to look like a table & chairs. Four little bunny Peeps were sitting there with one empty chair (mine, as I've been at home sulking). On the little cake read, "Missing Some Bunny". How sweet is that? The same person painted me a watercolor of what looks like a missing fish formation. A little school of goldfish with one space blank (just the white background). These are a group of Christian women from all different churches that I met thru' art journaling. What a blessing they've been.

Love your Easter tradition. My best friends are Jewish so I attended Seder dinner (Passover) from 13 yo until I moved to KS to L.A. I always thought of it as such a step to Easter as the last supper and I do miss it. Nowadays, I make Hot Cross Buns on Good Friday as taught to me by a Jamaican friend, who said it was tradition when he was a child.

God bless you and the readers this Holy Week.

I'm pleased to meet you! Lentils and rice is a nice comfort food. Nothing pretty enough to take a photo of, but delicious. It must be, I believe it was a pottage of lentils that Esau traded his birthright for!

I'll drop by and visit you at your blog. Happy Holy Week!

      1. Hello Sharon,
I love your name! I'm still trying to decide what to do for Easter dinner. I want to keep it simple, but I keep thinking of so many yummy things I could make. It's always harder when you eat right after church. I cannot really see me cutting my hair off, but it's a little wild right now. That's when I always think about it. The wind was blowing a little to much for me to be standing outside in a dress, but my girls and I were all dressed up, and it seemed like we should capture the moment. Now I'm glad we did.
I'm so glad you took time to speak to me Sharon. I feel encouraged.
        Be blessed this Holy Week,
        Laura
