Happy Homemaker Monday ~ July 31, 2017

As I write ... Sunday Evening

The weather....  A little cooler... in fact it felt like fall when I went to church Sunday morning! Hope for the future!

Right now I am... listening to Joyce Meyer on YouTube. She's talking about understanding and controlling your emotions.

Thinking... I am so glad that we have blog friends. I've received innumerable notes and comments on the blog from dear ladies who encourage me and lift be continually before the throne of God. I have received so much love, so many prayers have been prayed, so many cards and gifts have filled my post box. I cannot begin to show enough thanks to all of you dear, dear, ladies. You've made going through chemotherapy so much easier, just because I know I'm not in this alone. So I offer once again my sincere thanks. I am indeed blessed among women in my own generation.

A quote to share...

Something fun to share...
I thought this was just adorable! It's on my wish list. ~smile~

On the menu for this week.... Completely tentative mind you!
  • Monday... Chicken Packets from Once-A-Month Cooking by Mimi Wilson & Mary Beth Lagerborg ~ It's been so long since I made them, the kids didn't know what I was talking about. This is one of those recipes from way back in the '90's. As soon as they tasted them, they said, "Why don't you make these more often?"
  • Tuesday...  Chicken Soup with crackers or biscuits
  • Wednesday...  Church Supper
  • Thursday...  Spaghetti
  • Friday...  I expect hubby & kids will eat at Marion Days.

On my to do list...
  • My dear friend, Laura, is coming for a visit next week. I want to do a little extra cleaning. I will have to pace myself.
  • Doctor appointment to check my blood counts.

In the workbasket...

  • I really should hem my husband's jeans. They've been waiting awhile. I'm always afraid to make the cut!
  • I'd also like to find some black yarn I like, or maybe a very dark gray. Perhaps I should go ahead and purchase wool or a wool blend. I think I'll look and see what Knit Picks has to offer.

Looking forward to this week...
  • Feeling better! The farther I get from chemo, the better I feel. It didn't seem to knock me down as badly this time. Thank you God!

Looking around the house... My Michael cleaned my kitchen really well this morning after the rest of us went to church. I was so blessed and happy to come home to a clean kitchen! He had been out working very, very late last night. He listened to the podcast of church. I appreciate things like that for when we cannot make it to church. He tidied up the dining room and living room, too. Acts of service is one of my love languages. It can make me cry when someone does something kind for me. Yep, tears in my eyes today!

From the camera... My Amy and her friends have been painting rocks to hide as part of a local treasure hunt.

On my prayer list...

  • Peace of Jerusalem and Israel
  • Wisdom, health, and protection for President Trump, Vice-President Pence, and their families.
  • Healing for our country so that we may be ONE nation under God.
  • Cancer will die the death in my body. My heart, brain, organs, spleen, and healthy cells will be protected. I will live and not die and declare the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Psalm 118:17

My prayer for you, my reader...

Jesus, some of these ladies come here and read every week. Some are here for the first time. It is such an honor that they take the time to read what I've written. Jesus, I ask you to wrap your arms of love around each lady (or man). I ask that you help each one to feel how much your love her. I ask that you help her to be filled with your Holy Spirit and to understand what Holy Spirit is saying to her. Guide her, provide for her, help her to do the things you've called her to do. I ask it all in the name of Jesus and by the power of the blood of Jesus. Amen.

Thanks for dropping by!
Please say hello.
Laura

I'm always amazed just how white I look next to my husband!
I think I need a black hat. I cannot seem to keep scarves on my head.

  3. Good morning, Laura! You've put out another lovely post (as always)! I love the quote! I had never heard it before, but I really like the message that it conveys. Amy's rocks are awesome! I'm so glad you told me about the rock thing. I want to get some painted and put out myself. What kind of paint is Amy using? Give Laura S. my love and you girls have a wonderful visit while she's in. See you soon, Sweet Friend. I love you! <3

    1. Guess what? I forgot to link it again. I got my post up before she did, and then forgot to check back.

Someone found her rock and posted it on Carthage Rocks. Yay!

I shall give Laura your love right now, since I've been messaging with her. God bless you my friend.

    2. LOL! I did that a couple of weeks ago. Got it done early and tried to link it, but hers wasn't up yet, so got busy and forgot until a day or two later. Oh, well! LOL! That's cool that someone found Amy's rock! YEAH, AMY!!! What kind of paint does she use? You know...I don't know how I missed it, but I just now saw the sheep-shaped knitting bowl! How cute! Yes, you definitely need that!!! :D

    3. One thing about linking late—you see what everyone else is up to if you'd like.

  4. I clicked the links and enjoyed the blog features you added. Aunt Ruthie kicked my butt to get busy, your letter to the lady who was discouraged lifted me up. It got me to thinking...We live in a world with so much opportunity and yet people look in and despair instead of looking out (or up) and learning from others. Your suggestions to Lady In Despair were right on! When I was young and broke, I shopped garage sales and found glee in fixing things up. Now I'm old, and not so broke, and I still prefer shopping at a garage sale to find stuff to fix up. If I was like that lady, I would make money selling my items. Instead I usually donate them to a charity thrift store, with a food bank, so they can make money and help others in need. I think the dear lady needs to get control of her life. I always recommend listening to Dave Ramsey's radio show (or podcasts, on-line, etc) and reading his book Total Money Makeover. It seems to me knowledge is the key to everything. As Aunt Ruthie's advice said: Start pulling the weeds out of your life so the good stuff can grow!

    1. Aunt Ruthie always has that effect on me! I'm glad you're not broke anymore. It makes things a bit more fun when you do them because you want to do them and not because you must do them. You're right about Dave Ramsey. Our emergency fund made a major difference in our life! Be blessed!

  5. Hello!
    You look lovely!
And it also feels like fall her.
I love summer, but fall has my heart!
    Keep feeling well, my friend.

    1. I totally agree Billie Jo. Give me fall! I'd skip August altogether, but I have two kids' birthdays in it, so I'd never get away with it. Now those were some hard summers!
      Be blessed!

  6. I am glad you are feeling a little better. Hope that continues on. Just don't over do. Remember your friend is coming to see you - not your house!

Glad you have help around the house. I love the rock painting idea - that is just so cool.

    Love your pic.
God bless you and lay His healing hands upon you.

  9. Hi Laura! Your friend, Cheryl beat me to it....but I'll repeat it...remember that your friend is going to visit you and not your house!! One of my fondest moments of visiting a friend was when she was having a bad day. 4 kids under 12, homeschooling, etc. I walked in to complete and total chaos. The table was full of breakfast dishes, there was a ginormous pile of laundry on the sofa, the youngest was about 3 and looked like she'd bathed in chocolate milk that morning or at least had thrown a glass of it down her front lol, etc. As I said, TOTAL CHAOS. Friend said, "would you like coffee? I just started a fresh pot." On her way to the kitchen, she heaved the laundry over to one side, told me to have a seat, & disappeared. I sat with the laundry a good foot taller than my head lol & asked her youngest where everyone else was. She says, "Quiet desk reading" and then proceeds to crawl up into my lap, lay back against my shoulder, & twirl my hair in her fingers. My friend brought me coffee, sat down in a rocker, let out a big sigh, and said, "I guarantee this will be the quietest part of my day. I give it 20 minutes." Sure enough, after about that time, the kids were back & her break was over. I said goodbye and went home with sticky hair lol.
I couldn't have cared less! For some reason, if the mess isn't mine, it doesn't bother me a bit lol!

I love the painted rocks. I've heard from some friends that they've seen them around in public areas in Wichita.
With positive messages, bible verses, etc.

    I'm glad you're feeling better.

  10. I'm glad you are feeling better. I'm sure it's tough going through the chemo and trying to keep a somewhat normal routine. Your friend Laura isn't expecting you to do any deep cleaning, so give yourself a break, girl! We found a rock in the vet's office last week and posted it to the local facebook page to show. My daughter took it back home to TN to rehide but I'm not sure if she has done so or not. I like the gospel messages on your Amy's rock.

  12. What a beautiful picture of you and Lowell! Your smiles are radiant and the love radiating from your eyes speaks volumes. As far as lacking in the "summer tan look", that isn't as popular as it used to be anymore either, with all the emphasis on sunscreen and protection from the harsh UV rays. Ahhhh to have the porcelain skin of the days when parasols were in fashion. Have a blessed week Laura, sending a gentle hug, Karla

    1. I have a much better chance of porcelain skin these days. I don't go out in the sun much, but I do have a pale face compared to my little bit Pottawatomie husband. ~smile~
Actually, I cannot remember what it was they used to put on their faces to make them so pale, but it was toxic!

Be blessed, gentle hug received and returned!

  15. I love your posts. You are in the hardest fight of your life but you still pour so much love and encouragement into us all. Thank you for that. Did you do the Spleen 21 spots and so you think that helped you feel better this time? Just curious and you don't have to answer if you do not feel comfortable doing so.

I am intimidated by hemming pants, too. I had Pinned this method awhile back but have not tried it. I think it is more forgiving since it can be torn out and redone if the length is not right. https://refashionmama.wordpress.com/2011/12/17/alteration-my-new-favorite-way-to-keep-original-hem-on-jeans/

We are enjoying cooler weather and low humidity too and the robins are back. I am hoping that means that the really hot weather is over. We have actually been chilly on the screen porch at breakfast this week.

We have two appointments with the brain rehab specialist this week. I am praying that we will see improvement from these appointments as my husband has really regressed over the last few weeks. Our God is sovereign and we rest in that.

    1. No, I don't know what spots you're talking about Lana.
That looks like a good method of hemming, but still scary.
Cooler weather has been nice here, too.

Praying right now for your husband. I'm truly sorry you are all going through this.

    1. Ah, we live in such a busy time these days, sadly the offers are few and far between. I have had dear ladies bring me dinner four times. It's an old-fashioned thing to take care of each other. I think it may be, perhaps, that we go to such a large church. I may have more offers after my surgery.

All is well though. I just miss the olden days.
