A Nothing Thrifty Week at Harvest Lane Cottage #111

Welcome to another
Thrifty Week at Harvest Lane Cottage!

Each week I share ways I've saved money, my thrifty and frugal projects, and my blessings from God.

A Thrifty Week at Harvest Lane Cottage

I am so glad you dropped in for a visit today—or tonight!
Please say hello! I'm always looking for new blog friends!

Dear Reader,

I've done absolutely nothing thrifty this week! While at chemo, my friend went out to McAlisters and got me a delicious french dip sandwich and cup of broccoli soup. On chemo days, I'm tired, but I feel good enough to eat. ~smile~

Thank you all for praying! I feel pretty good for chemo week. I know it's because so many are praying. I also took a permanent marker with me to chemo. Jesus is the name over every name! I wrote Jesus right on the Perjeta chemo bag! That's the one that's been making me so sick. So far, so good!

God bless!
Laura

Just had to share this photo of my Annie and me back in the day.

Here's my thrifty week including blessings I received.
  • I always save by shopping at Aldi instead of Walmart.
  • We ate out of the cupboards and freezer most of the week. That's always a saver.
  • A dear reader, Sandra, sent me a bag full of cotton yarn in fresh, lovely colors. Oh, and she sent a gift card to my favorite Christian restaurant Chick-Fil-A! Love it! Thank you!
  • My dad and Annie brought us meat for the freezer and some other supplies. Thank you! I won't have to worry about meat for awhile thanks to you Dad!
  • I bought sandwich fixin's so the kids wouldn't eat out so much.
  • I received a mysterious box with a little lamb inside! The invoice said only Elizabeth with my address! This was the yarn bowl that I showed y'all a few weeks ago.  It's even cuter in person! Thank you to the mysterious Elizabeth! That was so sweet of you!

That's my thrifty week.

What are you doing in your home this week?

  1. I'm really glad that the chemo doesn't seem so bad! Thanks to your Daddy, a sweet anonymous friend sending you something that you wanted. What treasures you have!
There are a lot of days where you eat out of cabinet & freezer. You can't be thrifty all the time!
Enjoy your gifts, you're in my prayers, I'm with you in spirit! Laurie

    1. I think writing Jesus has made a big difference. I was blessed to have dear Nurse Laura who is a believer and my friend, Rebecca, to pray over it with me.
Thank you so much for praying so faithfully!

I wish I could have a big prayer reunion with all the faithful prayer partners when this is all over.... Oh, I guess we will one day, won't we?!!! ~smile~

  3. Thank you Lord for Laura'S chemo week going so well. Thank you for the blessing that she is to all of us here in this space. Lord please heal this sweet servant of yours and protect her organs as she goes through this chemo process.
    In Jesus name, Amen

God was so good to us this week. My husband went back to the neurologist and he said no work for 3 more months. This just gives us peace and time for healing. He also had a man to man talk with him about there being no shame in retiring and living on disability if that is how it turns out. This doctor is just so kind and I am thankful for him. Hubby is so much happier now that he can stop worrying about work. We are so blessed. We have made it a point this week to pray together and hand our future over to our sweet Father and to cast out fear. We are so much freer today for it. He is a good, good Father.

Our brain rehab specialist said we needed to get more rest so on Thursday we packed up and went to our house at the lake. Everytime we come here I am reminded of the blessing of this place. That is an amazing story for another day. Hubby is already doing better.

We did not make it a point to be thrifty this week but we just have been at the house resting and have not been anywhere but a grocery trip to Aldi so we are on track. We packed most of our food from what was at home. One of our grandsons turned 5 today. I had his gift put away from a super deal on Amazon so I added a $1 coloring book and crayons from Dollar Tree and he was very happy.

Have a good week and I will be praying for you.

Hugs to you! Packing food from home saves so much, doesn't it?

      Great deals.

  5. I know it can't be easy for you but you always have a positive outlook on everything you do. Keep on winning because verything depends on your faith. If you make it - and I have every confidence you will - I will change the habit of a lifetime and believe myself. Keep on fighting and get better soon!

  6. Being thrifty isn't always doing any one spectacular thing, just being consistent in our day to day lives. Sounds like you are doing that even through your chemo! Love the idea of writing "Jesus" on the bag. Your posts are very positive and uplifting!

    1. You are so right about consistency Debbie. Some things we just do without even thinking after we've done them for awhile. Thank you for your kind note. I hope we'll get to know each other and be friends. I'll be over for a visit in just a bit!
      Be blessed,

    1. I had read somewhere that I should fast a couple days before, on chemo day, and a couple days after. I asked the nurse practitioner. She said no. I should eat well, especially on chemo day. I'm glad I took her advice. I usually feel very good on chemo day. I am so excited that there's only one left!

  9. A very sweet post. The little yarn bowl is so cute. I've never been in an Aldi store. There is one in Raleigh. Maybe next time we go that way we can stop. Hope you have good week.

    1. Well, I have an appetite on chemo day anyway. Food hasn't tasted very good nor felt good in my tummy lately, at least not in the early two weeks. Hoping it will be better this time. Unfortunately, the side effects are hitting me hard tonight.

      Laura
