Digging Into the Archives

Dear readers,

If you follow Harvest Lane Cottage on Facebook, you'll recognize the puffins above. I became fascinated with the cartoonish look of puffins after reading The Legacy by Michael Phillips. These little birds were part of the setting in the Shetland Islands. If you're a patient reader of long books, you'll like the series.

I'm feeling better than last week. I am still reading all of your comments. Your kind comments and prayers have helped me through this hard time. I hope to be writing again soon...at least until surgery. Thank you for being patient with me. I'm still not replying unless someone asks a question or requests it.

If you're in the dark, here's what it's all about

Last time, I told you I've been reading my blog from beginning to end. I've felt a little discouraged the last few days, so I am also looking at some of my more recent posts to "build myself up in my most holy faith".  Do you do that, too? Remind yourself of the things you believe? I'm going to share another list from the archives in hopes of keeping both of us thinking happy thoughts.

Here are some of my favorites.

How to Read a Blog from the Very First Post

P.S. If you'd like to join me in reading (or skimming) my blog from the beginning, here's my very first post: A Cozy Christ Centered Christmas.

After reading the post, just click on Newer Post. Read and repeat. After you've read as many posts as you'd like, simply bookmark the next page, and pick up from there next time you'd like to read. I put mine in the bookmarks at the top of my page.

I've read Mrs. White's blog, The Legacy of Home  and Aunt Ruthie's blog, Sugar Pie Farmhouse from the beginning. Now I'm reading Roxy Jones' blog, Living from Glory to Gloryas well as my own.

To find the first post of a blog, go to the first month of the first year listed, then find the first post.

Enjoy!
Laura

  1. Praying much for you, sweet friend, and believing for better and healthier and happier days ahead for you! Your words today reminded me of how David said he encouraged himself in the Lord. That is what we have to do sometimes, in order to keep our heads above water. I believe many of the times he was encouraging himself in the Lord are recorded in the Psalms he wrote. So comforting to us now! God bless you and hold you close.

  4. Hello Laura, What a WONDERFUL source of reading while taking a break and enjoying a glass of ice tea. 92 degrees and muggy here in IL..quite high for this time of year. A welcome break from outside projects and inside projects as well. Sometimes you just have to let the work go and find a peaceful moment to just enjoy a simple pleasure. I'm sure I will still be catching up on your past posts well into the fall and winter..will enjoy reading them with a cup of hot tea and a scone I think!!~ Keep practicing that "time to rest" thing..it will get easier..smiling as I send a gentle hug, Karla

    1. Dear Holley,

My heart goes out to your son-in-love and your entire family. How tragic to die so young.

Father God, you and only you can comfort in a time like this. Holy Spirit, comforter is who you are. Thank you. Jesus I pray for the salvation of everyone present and that no family member will be lost now and forevermore, but all will be saved. God please provide for the wife and remaining children. I ask for it all in the name of Jesus Christ. I plead the blood of Jesus over all. Amen.

      Hugs to you Holley,
      Laura

  7. Puffins! Aren't they adorable? My friend fell in love with them on one of her vacations. Iceland, I think? Anyway, it was where she met her (future) husband. They loved them so much, they used puffins on their wedding invitations!

I'm looking forward to your Fall Bucket List to see if I need to add anything to mine that I might have forgotten!

    Still praying for you!
    Blessings to you, Laura.

  9. Dear Laura, Thank you for the lovely post! You continue to bless and encourage women even when you are not well yourself.
I love to read posts from blogs as well and several times I have read SugarPie Farmhouse from the beginning.
It's like getting to know someone over several years.
Another thing that I like to do is watch Youtube videos on cleaning, homemaking etc. I find that listening to how women do their housework, or cook or budget somehow encourages me. I feel like I have had a visit with a friend and get up and do the next thing that needs doing.
I know that there are women all over the place praying for your healing and full recovery. Remember you have friends that you have not met in person but the Lord listens to their prayers regarding your life.
    Warm Regards, Helen

  15. I've found several blogs that I have read from beginning to end before too. I hope to have time soon to read yours. My mom left a blog behind when she passed away two years ago; I have started reading hers, but haven't gotten through it all the way. There were lots of fun things I had forgotten. Praying for you!

    1. Oh Penny,
I'm hoping that my children will read through my blog, too, when I pass. I know I've been reminded of many good things. It's where I've shared some of the little bit of wisdom I've gained, too. May God bless you in the times when you're missing her.
      Hugs! Laura

  17. Laura, I had to let you know that I crossed my first item off my Fall Bucket List. Brahm's (ice cream, don't know if you have those next door or not!) had Pumpkin ice cream and I had a cone after church yesterday! Simply delicious! Fall is officially here now!

  18. I am so glad to hear that you are feeling better every week. Still praying for you.

We are seeing real improvement with my husband's brain function. He was able to take a 4 hour trip to see our youngest grandchild over the weekend.

    Have a good week!

  20. One of these days, I want to read, read, read all the interesting blogs I can find. Like I told my mom (when I was explaining what blogs were and why I liked to read them)--it's like having the best magazines--all I could ever want, with more articles coming along all the time--and all for free!!! I'm happy for you that you have been able to do that, but sorry you have to feel sick.

  21. I like where you said, "Learning to Rest". It's hard, isn't it? I was pretty much incapacitated in terrible pain for a period of about two years. That was so hard. Like you said, I had to learn to rest.

I like your idea of reading from the beginning of my blog. I started in 2009, the year my grandson was born. I also keep a hand-written journal that records my thoughts, prayers, and the Scriptures I'm reading / meditating on. When I get discouraged, I love to go back and read about the way He has worked in my life over the years. . . the many prayers He has answered. It always renews my faith. I've learned that every dark valley has taught me something wonderful about Him that I can share with others.

Thank you for continuing to encourage others while going through your own trouble. You blessed me by stopping by Gail-Friends this past weekend. Blessings to you, Laura, and I pray you will be back to vibrant health and strength very soon.

  22. P.S. How do you put the bird song on your blog? I love birds and would love to add it to mine.

Hello! I love it when you all talk back!
Your comments have helped me through the hardest time of my life.
Thank you!

I read all the comments I receive. I answer as many as I can.

Right now, I am undergoing radiation treatments, healing from breast cancer surgery on October 20th, and dealing with the side effects of chemotherapy.

I'm having a hard time replying to all the comments. Please understand if I do not answer. This is all new to me.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PRAYING FOR ME!!!
I treasure your prayers and your comments.

If you have a question, or you need a response, be sure I can reach you by email or subscribe to the comments. I will try to answer each question and request. It just may take me some time.

Be blessed!
Laura
