Joyous Memories

A couple weeks ago, I heard a man's voice deep and clear at Walmart sing the first line of John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt and pause. I stuck my head around the corner, and saw a man with a preschooler in his cart. I sang out loudly, "His name is my name too!" They were both delighted! The man and I took turns singing a line each at a time until we loudly sang the last line in unison. What a joyous experience! We smiled at each other then went our separate ways. My sixteen year old daughter was with me. She thought it was "epic". Her friend seemed a bit less enthusiastic since she's a shy girl, but she liked it, too. Oh, I'm smiling so big right now. I enjoyed it so much. I wish life were more like a musical!

I'm loving the Christmas lights I see. I haven't seen any full neighborhoods yet, but the lights are such a joy to me. We used to put the kids to bed one night near Christmas. Then, after they'd been in bed for 15-30 minutes, we'd yell out, "Pajama Run!". The kids would put on their shoes and head to the van. We'd go around and look at lights and drink cocoa. Oh the memories! I do miss my littles.

Happy Christmas to all!

  4. Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family! I love how people are sharing memories of Christmas' past. Last night my husband and I went to one of our favorite funky little coffee houses and he had a latte and I had spiced mulled wine. We then drove all over his hometown (it's just 30 minutes from our place) and enjoyed all the Christmas lights and decorations. We used to do this when were first married and then later with our kids on Christmas eve after leaving my husband's parents home. Those were such happy times with wonderful memories. It was wonderful to just ooh and ahhh last night at the displays. :)

  6. We always do at least one 'light run', and ours was last night. We saw some lovely homes in our town. We also visited Okefenokee Swamp and their light show (complete with train ride to see more in the woods) that we also do every year. Fun traditions! Merry Christmas to you and your family!

  8. What neat memories! Hearing about the song reminded me that not too long ago, Zach and I were in Taco Bell late one night, and these two guys were talking at a table nearby. One of their names was John (I think) and they were talking about that song and got me to laughing. Come to find out, they are Christians and invited us to their church, which we ended up visiting a while after that. I remember hearing that song on Zach's "Wee Sing" videos when he was little. I SO miss him being little, too, but am so thankful for now. I cherish the moments as much as possible...they so quickly slip through our fingers, don't they? I hope you had a wonderful Christmas day with your family. :)

    1. I think that since I got my cancer diagnosis, I've learned to seize the opportunities to have fun rather than being so all work and no play. I always used to put off my happy times until I could get all my to dos done. I'm learning. I hope my remaining years will be better than years gone by.
      Blessings,
      Laura
