My Winter Bucket List 2018

MY WINTER BUCKET LIST
2018

This isn't your typical to do list.
This list is about doing things that
bring me joy.

This winter will be a little different for me. I'll be going through radiation five days a week for seven weeks to make sure breast cancer does not return. I'll continue my IV treatments every three weeks, and take my medicines like the doctor tells me.
BUT
I am not cancer. Cancer is not my life. Cancer is not my identity. I want to have fun this winter as much as I can. That's why I made this fun to do list that I call my winter bucket list.

What will you put on your list?
  • Write my Winter bucket list
  • Put the Christmas tree away
  • Put away the Christmas decorations
  • Sort through my Christmas decor for discards
  • New Year's Eve with our friends at church
  • Put out my snowmen
  • Decorate the house for January
  • Smile and spread good cheer
  • Curl up with a terrific book
  • Drink hot tea
  • Enjoy candle light
  • Make chili
  • Double feature movie night ~ I watched 3 princess movies with my girls!
  • Soup night with friends
  • Try a new tea
  • Try a new soup
  • Craft day with friends on January 18th
  • Sew with friends
  • Lunch out with a friend ~ Thanks Regina!
  • Gaze into the fire in the woodstove
  • Knit a bit ~ I knit 2 Easy Peasy hats.
  • Sew ~ mending
  • Watch a movie at a theater ~ The Greatest Showman was excellent!
  • Help Emily and Amy practice hospitality ~ Emily's princess movie party was snowed out. Amy's Bible study/craft night held.
  • Make snow ice cream ~ No snow. Cue music. Get this! We got snow, and I haven't made the ice cream! I forgot to put out my pans to collect it. Amy to the rescue! She went out and found plenty of clean snow for me.
  • Worship Jesus under the winter stars
  • Get dog's nails clipped... I put it on here 'cause it's needed to be done
  • Celebrate my son's 27th birthday
  • for a long time, and I'll be happy when I finally take her to have it done!
  • Knit a bit more ~ Visit a Knitting Group
  • Knit a Langstaff Road hat ~ I've started it. I am harvestlanelaura on Ravelry.com. I finished it February 1.
  • Bake snowball cookies
  • Knit a couple hats to donate to the chemo center
  • Spend an entire afternoon with my Kindle and a candle
  • Sew an infant bereavement quilt to donate ~ top done, working on a second top. I need to get some flannel for the backing.
  • Invite friends for dessert
  • Knit a chunky yarn hat  I picked up some yarn at the chemo center, and next time I go in for treatment, I'll donate the hat I made.
  • Make candy cane cocoa
  • Use my teapot—white sprinkled with cherries
  • Make some Trim Healthy Mama treats ~ 15 Minute Foccacia is good.
  • Read an evening away with a good book and a good candle
  • Finish my Emily's quilt ~ I'm hand quilting it.
  • Read by the fire
  • Pedicure ~ My nurse practitioner actually prescribed a little pampering!

  3. I love your list Laura and I pray that God give you strength as you finish up these treatments so that the nasty cancer has no chance of returning. God has been so faithful and I have seen your faith grow so much during these trials as you put your complete trust in HIm. Be blessed and here is to a Happy and Healthy 2018!

  5. You amaze me my friend! I talk with you so often now, you should be my next door neighbor, who I talk to on Facebook! LOL!
No dear, cancer is not your name, cancer is not your life, but my prayer is that you continue to rest, recuperate, and heal.
Radiation 5 days a week isn't going to be a walk in the park. It is going to be tiring, not just the treatment itself, but the travel hither & yon. Remember to rest.
Your winter list gave me pause, smiles and encouragement to take a moment and decide what I would like to do.I love the idea of reading by candlelight.A lovely smelling candle. So, a winter list is starting.
As always, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers! Find some peace to rest your soul, Laurie

    1. Hello Linda!
Just wanted you to know that I am enjoying your soap. The peppermint fragranced the whole bathroom for Christmas!
May God bless you for your kindness and generosity. Calendula is in the shower now. I've not started THM again yet.
I think I would feel better if I did. I ate way too much sugar over Christmas time.
      Blessings,

  11. Hey, your list sounds all warm and cozy and several of those things are on my list, too. I'm making chili today as we are expecting SNOW in eastern NC tonight.. a very rare thing, so we are all excited. I've got lots of good reading material, hand sewing projects, plenty of food... I'm ready! I hope the radiation isn't too tough on your body... my aunt had it done and her skin in that area was pitiful by the time she finished. But it was all worth it...... she is now cancer free! I will continue praying for you Laura!

    1. I am hoping and praying Penny that my skin will fair well, however, it's my heart and lungs I'm most concerned about.
I'm praying for God's protection. It sounds like you're ready for snow. I'd love to have a snowed in day, but I guess
starting tomorrow, my time won't be my own. Hugs to you, Laura

  14. I'm off to a really slow January start. I don't have a winter list even in my brain right now! I might have to poach your list as it sounds wonderful!! When looking at movies, might I suggest, "The Magic of Ordinary Days"? It's a Hallmark movie and very good.

I do have a big crock of vegetable soup simmering and it's starting to smell delicious. That has to be my very favorite winter dinner. There's some homemade honey wheat bread to go with it. Yummy!!

    1. Hi Debby,
Be well and healed in Jesus' name! Don't give up. I know that some ladies find relief for some of your symptoms with Trim Healthy Mama eating plan. Google it. When I follow faithfully, I feel better. Let's not discuss the chocolate covered cherry I'm eating!
I wish I had my mama's veggie soup recipe. I didn't like it as a child, so I never learned to make it. I wish I could ask her, but she's moved to Heaven.
      I love honey oat bread.
Happy today and tomorrow and weekend!
      Laura

P.S. Radiation set up is tomorrow.

    1. Hello dear Jean,
I haven't had my Kindle and candle afternoon yet, but I shall!
I'm trying to be positive Jean. I hope the time will pass quickly, too.
Usually I am longing for snow and winter. This time I'm longing for spring!
I should be done by March 2 with radiation treatments. I don't know how long it will
take to recover from them. Hopefully, by next fall, I'll be done with all my treatments!
I'm so glad you dropped by. I will come for a visit. Take care, Laura

  19. Hi Laura;
Love your bucket list for 2018. We still have the tree up and most of the decorations. Thursday we had about 8 inches of snow ,so that day was occupied by shoveling. Will try and finish the Christmas decorations down in a few days. Will get ready for the Valentine decorations to go up in a few weeks. Laura you are in my daily prayers. Thinking of you.

  21. I love your bucket list Laura... always best to look up, rather than down or around! I like your words about cancer, as so many people take on a persona of cancer, as it surely does eat into every part of your life. However, I know that your attitude and trust in the Lord is truly making the difference for you! BIG hugs and many prayers sent your way dear friend!!!
