A Thrifty Week at Harvest Lane Cottage #122

Welcome to another
Thrifty Week at Harvest Lane Cottage!
Each week I share ways I've saved money, my thrifty and frugal projects, and my blessings from God.

A Thrifty Week at Harvest Lane Cottage
I am so glad you dropped in for a visit today—or tonight!
Please say hello! I'm always looking for new blog friends!

Hello!

I heard news that brought tears to my eyes this week. Tears of joy and sadness. Reverend Billy Graham had an impact on my life and the life of millions. May his name be blessed forever, and my his books and sermons continue to bring sinners to the savior and the saved to a deeper relationship with the LORD.

I don't have much to share. I hope you're having a pleasant week. One day it feels like spring here in southern Missouri, and the next the forecast calls for freezing rain. It shall be interesting to see which weather wins this coming week. It will be a quiet week here on the blog, because it will be my last week of radiation. I'm in pretty good shape for the shape I'm in. I've had some burning and some pain, but God has been a shield to me, my glory and the lifter of my head. Psalm 3:3

I'll probably be quiet here at the blog for a little while. I continue to read all your comments, and I appreciate your prayers.

Here's my short and sweet list.

Here's my thrifty week!
  • I received a bag of yarn. I've been making hats, and I am donating most to the chemo center.
  • I received a free cappuccino from a rewards program. Here's the not-so-thrifty truth. I've been stopping for a cappuccino at the gas station after radiation treatments. It puts the treat in treatments for about $1.69 a day.
  • My daughter and I gave away a box of books and other items that had been gathering dust.
  • We bought the $5 pizzas from Papa Murphy for dinner one night. We had guests come in from out of town, and I didn't have the energy to prepare. Everyone understood.

That's my thrifty week.

What are you doing in your home this week?

  1. Glad you are doing good. It won't be long and you will be back in full force
Such a loss for the people of earth with Reverend Graham, and such a wonderful gain for heaven.

Have a wonderful week. God bless.

  2. Hi Laura,
So very happy this is the last week . Praying for you, and may your strength be returned real soon.
It was a bitter sweet sadness to hear of Billy Graham.. He was so sad, after his wife went to be with Jesus.. Now, He is with our wonderful Lord and his sweet wife.. He was a true man of God. And affected so many lives.

  4. Hi Laura,
You amaze me. You are so cheerful and upbeat when I know you must feel pretty bad. You are an inspiration to me. Thank you for being "real."

I too was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Billy Graham. I have many of his books on my shelves, and you are right...he was such a blessing to so many around the world. But think of the rejoicing in heaven and the relief from his illness and suffering. Even though I am not sick or suffering, I still yearn for heaven more every day. I can't wait to see the face of Jesus! :-)

I think of you and pray for you often. I thank God that He is using you in the midst of difficult circumstances. Oh, and on a random note...I absolutely LOVE the birdsong on your blog! I open my computer most mornings and go to your blog and let the birds sing to me while I make breakfast. So lovely. *sigh*
God bless you and your family,
    Jennifer

  6. Congratulations on your last week of radiation. You deserve some time off from blogging, so go play and rest a while. I did want to share that whenever I come to your blog, the bird songs that play draws my four female cats from where ever they are in the house, and they sit and stare intently at the laptop!

Dios te bendiga a ti y tu linda family 😘😘🙏🙏

  12. Aww...Laura...you remain in my prayers. I am thrilled that you are on the downside of the treatment hill. Pizza is great and who cares if there is not a home-cooked meal? People come to see you-and are not there for what you offer to feed them.

Great thrifty ideas. I used to get a latte every day when my hubby was doing his chemo and then for all his follow up visits for hydration. It was my little 'treat' in the treatment routine, too.

Love to you- hang in there- you got this! xo Diana

  15. Enjoy those hot drinks. I'm glad you are able to have them, enjoy them, and savor them. It's so awesome that you are nearing the end of these treatments.

I was also touched by Billy Graham's death. I'm sure he's singing "Just as I Am" with the angels:).

Thank you so much for "talking back" to me!

I read all comments and appreciate them.
Please make sure I have your email if you want me to respond or pray for you.

God bless you! This life only works with Jesus. The next life is a continuation of this one—make sure you spend it with Jesus. Jesus is the only way to God the Father!
