Review: The Forgiven Duke

A couple of months ago, Jamie Carie pulled me into the first book of the Forgotten Castle series with the words, "Heaven could be found in music."  She kept my rapt attention throughout The Guardian Duke.  Then, she left me hanging!  Ah, such is the way of series.  ~smile~

I really really liked this book.  Jamie Carie is masterful in combining elements of mystery, adventure, and romance in The Forgotten Castle series.  Danger lurks everywhere as international intrigue develops, all centered upon a single missing manuscript for which Alexandria's parents were searching.  Mrs. Carie paints beautiful word pictures as The Duke of St. Easton and Lady Alexandria Featherstone journey to Iceland to continue in their quests... the Duke seeking Alexandria for her safety and Alexandria seeking her parents regardless of the cost.  The cost is indeed great in many ways.  This is a lovely continuation of the previous book.

Any complaints?  Well, yes--  I didn't know it was a trilogy!  As the story wound down to the last few pages, I began to realize that the multiple storyline intrigues simply couldn't be resolved in so short a period.  Sigh... now it's a wait until the third book comes out in September.

Just a note:  I allowed my 14 year old daughter to read the first book because it was more of a mystery/adventure book in my opinion.  While The Forgiven Duke: A Forgotten Castles Novel has these elements, romance is more the central focus.  There are scenes that would not be considered to be explicit to an adult; but, I didn't want my teenage daughter to read them.  If you've read my blog in the past, you know that I'm careful about what my children read.  This is not juvenile fiction.

About the Book:
"Tethered by her impulsive promise to marry Lord John Lemon - the path of least resistance - Alexandria Featherstone sets off toward Iceland in search of her parents with a leaden heart. A glimpse of her guardian, the Duke of St. Easton - the path less traveled by - on Dublin’s shore still haunts her. Will he come after her? Will he drag her back to London, quelling her mission to rescue her treasure-seeking parents, or might he decide to throw caution to the wind and choose Foy Pour Devoir: “Faith for Duty,” the St. Easton motto. The Featherstone motto Valens et Volens: “Willing and Able,” beats in her heart and thrums through her veins. She will find her parents and find their love, no matter the cost. The powerful yet wing-clipped Duke of St. Easton has never known the challenge that has become his life since hearing his ward’s name. Alexandria Featherstone will be the life or the death of him. Only time and God’s plan will reveal just how much this man can endure for the prize of love."
