ONE NIGHT Advent Calendar ~ Review

Christmas is a wonderful time of year. We do so many things in anticipation of the big day. Children grow more and more excited to see what will be under the tree. We have pageants, parties, and many activities. But do we slow down and look for Jesus in the season?

Years ago, I decided to do things differently with our children. Although I'm not from a liturgical background, we began celebrating Advent in our own made up way. Part of that was reading from a favorite Advent book each night. It became a treasured family tradition. Even though my children are now 17 through 27, last year, we all gathered to read the book together at least once. Those who live at home read it more often. There's something about opening doors in anticipation.

ONE NIGHT an advent calendar is a new twist on the Advent story.  Adam Farbiarz tells the story of Christ's birth from the perspective of a young shepherd and his friend. It exquisitely illustrated by Rachael Clarke Hende in ink and charcoal.  Calligraphy and hand lettering were done by Adam's sister Rachel Farbiarz.  Lizzie stone designed it all so that it fit together beautifully and seamlessly.

It was not the story as I expected it. The language and imagery was at an adult level. That kept it fresh and interesting. It will also spark conversations between children and grown-ups. Talking about Jesus is really the goal isn't it? Passing on our faith to the children God has put in our lives?

The combination of illustrations that look like art instead of storybook characters, an imaginative, well-told story based on the account in Luke, attractive lettering, and excellent construction make this a calendar that your family can enjoy as part of your Christmas Advent traditions.

This is a KICKSTARTER campaign. You cannot find this Advent calendar in stores. KICKSTARTER allows supporters and patrons to help the creators of all kinds of products get their items into the marketplace.
