You'll be glad you did.

Disappointment. Promise. Intensity. Patience. Confusion. DIY. Sorrow. Agony. Trust. Substitution. Rescue.

Oh my! What a movie. What a story. What truth. I don't even know what to write. It was that good. His Only Son reached me on a deep, emotional level. I am very familiar with these passages of scripture; however, I was never able to understand how and why Abraham, Sarah and Isaac did as they did. Although I know that not all of the dialogue was directly from the Bible, I believe that viewers receive insight that brings a bit more understanding. 

 My husband watched with me. I saw tears in his eyes more than once. Here's what he had to say:  

• Good actors
• Great on their budget (It was Crowd Funded for far less than a typical movie.)
• Story well told 
• Very emotional at sacrifice
• I would see it again and take kids

 What I expected:

• To see the basic Bible story portrayed

What I didn't expect:

• The intesity and quality of the acting—so much was said with eyes and facial expression
• The distict foreshadowing of the cross in Isaac's sacrifice
• The distict portrayal of the cross and the Christ being the sacrifice for us
• To gain more understanding 

I don't want to say anything more about that, because I want you to experience this film for yourself.

Most importantly, I was left with insight into the hows and the whys of both Isaac's sacrifice and the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. It was different than any other Christian film I've seen.

I recommend this movie more than any other Christian film I've seen. It was different than any other Christian film I've see. Go see it. Take your friends, family, and church family. Take believers. Take unbelievers. It's good. It's impactful.

SYNOPSIS:

His Only Son recounts one of the most controversial moments in the Old Testament—when Abraham was commanded by God to sacrifice his son Isaac on the mountain of Moriah. While traveling to the place of the sacrifice, alongside Isaac and two servants, Abraham is flooded with vivid memories from the years he and Sarah spent longing for the son they were promised—the son he must now lay upon the altar.
 

The sacrifice of Abraham and Isaac parallels the sacrifice of Christ on the cross.
 
The location where Abraham was willing to sacrifice Isaac, Mount Moriah, is also believed to be the same location where the Temple in Jerusalem was built, where Christ was later crucified.

His Only Son is an independent film made on a shoestring budget of less than $250,000 but is now going to be screened in 1,200 theaters nationwide and counting.  It's the first movie ever to crowdfund its theatrical release. The film partnered with Angel Studios—the studio that brought you The Chosen—in 2022 to crowdfund over $1,235,000 for its March 2023 theatrical release. 

It was initially set to premiere in around 600 theaters; but, thanks to a crowdfund that raised over $1,235,000 in under a week, and overwhelmingly positive reviews from audience members, it’s now showing in 1,200 theaters and counting . 
 
This is one of the most impactful Easter films in a generation.
