Opening Hearts and Homes

I'm reading A Life Giving Home by Sally Clarkson and her daughter Sarah.
Over the years, my husband and I have opened our home many times in hospitality.
We got out of the habit while we served in the Joplin Tornado recovery efforts and while we had a family restaurant.
It's time to get rebooted and open our doors again.

What about you and your home?
Is it time to open your doors and your hearts?

Blessings,
Laura

  1. This was such a wonderful reminder, sweet friend. My husband and I used to have people over every week for supper and games, but for the last couple of years we have gotten out of the habit... This was good for me to read :)

    Enjoy your week! Hugs!

  2. You're right, Stephanie. It is a habit. Once out of it, it seems a bit hard to restart sometimes. Since my husband is unemployed, and money is getting tight, it seems impossible. But we've enjoyed good fellowship with a pot of beans and some cornbread before. ~smile~
    Be blessed!

  4. This is a very timely post. I have a younger friend who needs some help right now, but I am still stinging from a time recently when she abused privileges at our home. Maybe instead of me deciding what to do I need to give the decision to God.

  5. I'm reading this book too, and for much the same reasons - there is a change happening in our family and it is time to pick up those habits of opening our heart and home like we used to. I appreciated seeing this short post this morning - and for putting it into words.

  6. I don't have this book, and I know it is one that needs to be on my bookshelf indeed! Our home is an open place and we share food and love with our friends many times monthly, and it has opened such beautiful avenues for friendships to grow! Appreciated your post today, a blessing to read :)

  7. I just finished part one of Sally's book. It is such a great book so far, I can't wait to dive into the months! I have a hard time with hospitality and definitely have some room to grow. this April we are having a missionary family stay at our house for 3 nights; I'm super nervous about that but I know it will be a great tool to make me grow and it will be super good for our kiddos! Sally's book is definitely hammering that home for me.

  8. We, too, love opening our hearts and home to so many throughout the years. It is amazing how God is so faithful to orchestrate those opportunities! It is very heartwarming to show hospitality to His people! Trust you are doing well, sweet friend. :)

  11. Hello Belinda! I think there are some big changes coming for us, too. Sometimes short posts are best.

  13. You are so right, Cheryl. I think we've excused ourselves from it because of work schedules and now non-work problems too long.

  14. This book is on my Amazon wish list. We have had so many opportunities over the years to have missionaries in our home. Many of them have become good friends that we have stayed in touch with. We definitely don't have people over as often as we used to, and we need to remedy that. Thanks for sharing!
