Happy Homemaker Monday ~ August 4, 2025

I'm joining with Sandra at Happy Homemaker Monday.

Hello everyone!

It's been quite awhile since I've written a Happy Homemaker Monday or My Daybook post. It's Monday night as I write this, but I thought I'd give it a go anyway.

The weather:::

We have had some cooler weather. It was just in time for Marion Days last week. It's a Vietnamese religious festival that is held in Carthage every August. It's always sweltering; but, this year it was almost pleasant. I still kept to my a.c. at home. ~smile~ This week the temperature is supposed to climb again.

As I look outside my window:::
It's Monday night after 10 p.m. Everything's dark except for some street lights.

Right now I am:::
Today, I've been writing Amazon Vine reviews and writing blog posts. I had a steroid shot in my foot this morning; so, I'm staying off my feet as much as I can. Oh, yes, there was knitting!

Something fun to share:::
I bought a rug loom for twining. I found this video tutorial.

Thinking and pondering:::
I really want to work on one project at a time until it's done with the motivational goal of warping my loom when I finish. If I don't finish by the end of the month, I may cave!

On my bedside table:::
A stack of books that I'm not reading. They're holding up my mini fan. ~smile~ You'll also find my phone for the alarm and listening to my Bible App morning and night. Lastly, I always have ice water in case I'm thirsty at night.

What I'm currently reading:::
Every Hour Until Then by Gabrielle Meyer ~ Loving it!

On my tv:::
YouTube videos about history, diy, or homemaking

Listening to:::
Please keep in mind... I've been Kringling. This video has great music, so far no mid-roll ads, and beautiful pictures.

On the menu for this week:::
To be determined... I'm short on groceries and don't know when I'll be going to the store. I'm falling back on things I find in the freezer, garden tomatoes and squash, and making do.

On my to do list:::
Cleaning
Errands
Reviews
Writing

What I am sewing, crocheting, knitting or creating:::
I'm focusing exclusively the fingerless mitts. The first one is off the needles and ready for the thumb. After I finish the second mitt's wrist and hand portion, I'll knit both thumbs so that they come out even.

My simple pleasure:::
Iced Chai Lattes at home using Oregon Chai Latte concentrate or, when I have it, Mocaf Chai Vanilla mix.

Looking around the house:::
I have a lot of cleaning to do to prepare for my grandbaby's birthday party. My daughter asked to host it at our house since it's bigger than her apartment. I want to have it all done by Saturday so that I can prepare my dishes for the potluck.

From the camera:::
Thanksgiving will be here before we know it.

Bible verse, prayer, devotional:::

May Jesus be real in your heart and in your life.
He came to save you. You can be rid of the guilt and shame in your life once and for all.
You can be forgiven. God wants to reach out to you in love and mercy.
Find a Bible or Google
John 3:16.
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son so that all who believe in him shall be saved."

Right now, close your eyes, confess your sins to God, and ask for forgiveness. Ask for Jesus to come into your life and be your savior. He died to pay the debt for your sins, and then rose again from the grave alive. He is alive now with Father God, and HE LOVES YOU! He is reaching out to you right now.
He is as close as a prayer.
God bless you!

Happy Homemaker Monday ~ May 8

Hello ladies,

I'm still getting back in the habit of writing these Monday posts. I'll pretty them up a bit when I finish with school. ~smile~ I probably won't sub much more this year. I'm on the schedule for half a day this Thursday and one day next week.

The weather... Sunny and hot and humid. I cannot believe I was cold last week.

Right now I am... Tired. I subbed in a special ed class for kids with autism and behavior disorders today.

Thinking... I would really like to read a bit tonight.
  • Ezekiel from The Bible
  • In This Moment by Gabrielle Meyer ~ for review
  • The Unexpected Light of Thomas Alva Edison by Raymond Arroyo ~ for review
  • Turtle Finds His Talent ~ for review
  • Homespun Devotions Volume 2 ~ by Cheryl Smith
  • At Home with Madame Chic ~ by Jennifer Scott
  • Mere Christianity ~ by C.S. Lewis
Favorite blog post last week... A Little Blog Reading from The Archive

Something fun to share...

I wrote this off for my daughter this week.

Blog hopping... I like Living from Glory to Glory by Roxy

On the menu for this week...
  • Monday ~ salad and quesadillas
  • Tuesday ~ We'll each be away from home and will eat out
  • Wednesday ~ beef stew
  • Thursday ~ I'm not sure yet. We're going to try EveryPlate. I have a girlfriend who really likes it and has used it for over a year. Our box should arrive Thursday. I'll let you know what we think. If you want to try it too, you can use this link to get a big discount.
  • Friday ~ I'm not sure. It's my birthday, and my husband will take care of it. I do know my grown kids have been invited over for cake.
On my to do list... Do I have to think about it? I've been working on to do list after to do list recently. I'm going to maintain the house this week and think about a to do list for next week.

In the craft basket...  knitting and a bit of hand quilting on my daughter's quilt. My husband's grandmother pieced it and gave it to me to finish. It's been challenging. She used lots of scraps, and some of them had polyester blended with cotton. They're hard to get a hand needle through.

Looking forward to this week... My birthday is Friday. My husband has invited me to lunch at our favorite place, Red Onion. I'm looking forward to French onion soup, bruchetta, and a piece of their Italian cream cake. Super yum!

Looking around the house... It looks great. We cleaned up after having company last night. It was nice to come home to a clean house.

From the camera...
My little boy who grew up to be a lawman.

On my prayer list... Salvation, healing, financial provision.

Bible verse, Devotional... In honor of Mother's Day, "Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her." Proverbs 31:28

Now, just a note. I don't really like the way I've got this set up. I'm going to look back on how I've done it in the past.  So, you can expect this to look a little different over the next few weeks. Right now, I'm just trying to get myself writing again.

Have a terrific week,
Laura

Happy Homemaker Monday ~ May 1, 2023 ~ Sugar Cookies

The weather... Sunny and cool. We're in the fifties.

Right now I am... Taking a bit of a break after vacuuming half the house. I'll do the rest when I get up. I also have a bit of a headache. I'll go to the chiropractor this afternoon and see if he can help.

Thinking... May 1st on a Monday—a sunny Monday at that. It seems like a new start kind of day. I'll be off this summer since I substitute teach. I want to think about some of the things I'd like to do to take advantage of the extra time.

On my reading pile... The Nazi Conspiracy by Brad Metzger and Josh Mensch, Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis, and At Home with Madame Chic by Jennifer L. Scott. Here's my reading list.

On my TV.... I don't watch regular t.v. I do watch YouTube videos. I recently found The Trek Planner. He finds things on Google Earth, then he goes and checks them out.

Favorite blog post last week (mine or other)... Save Like Nana Did. Be Busy With Our Hands at The Bluebirds are Nesting on the Farm.

Something fun to share... This bubble refill station looks fun.

Blog hopping (newly discovered blog)... Nothing new to share, but I enjoy GDonna.

On the menu for this week... Oh, I've not made menu plans yet. We seriously need to go to the grocery store. I know I'm making beans and cornbread for supper.

On my to do list... Put house back together after garage sale, mend, knit a bit.

In the craft basket... mending and knitting.

Looking forward to this week... I'm hoping to substitute a couple of times and knit with friends. We also have our home group coming Sunday evening to our house for the first time.

Looking around the house... a bit of disarray. I'm getting the house put back together.

From the camera... I've made this cookie recipe since I was a child. I lost the recipe, but I found that I'd written it out for my daughter while I was looking through cookbooks. The recipe was from a Betty Crocker Junior Cookbook from the seventies.

On my prayer list... Salvation, healing, financial provision.

Bible verse, Devotional... "In all thy ways acknowlege Him (God), and He shall direct thy paths." We all need direction from God right now.

Hope you have a energetic week!
Laura

♥♥ How I am feeling ♥♥
I took this selfie while out for a walk this past week.

I am quite well. I completed a one week no cheat Trim Healthy Mama challenge this past week. I did cheat once. I visited a friend, and she served me a sandwich for lunch. Manners were more important than perfection. I also finished my 21 day salad a day challenge on Instagram. I'm slowing down on salads a bit because of a queasy stomach. I am feeling better now. My current challenge is no sugar until Thanksgiving Eve. Unfortunately, I may need to modify that a bit. My husband just asked for a double layer yellow cake with extra chocolate fudge frosting for his birthday accompanied by vanilla ice cream. I think I'll be having a small slice. ~smile~

♥♥ On my reading pile ♥♥
I'm still in the book of Hebrews by Paul the Apostle. I'm starting on chapter 12 this week. I am listening on Bible.com. That app has changed my life. I have read and listened to the Bible several times since I started using it almost ten years ago.

Home Sweet Tiny Home by Melody Carlson is on still on my bookshelf. I've been reading! Mrs. Carlson wrote A Christmas in the Alps that I reviewed earlier this year.

The Debutant's Code by Erica Vetsch one of my favorite authors ~ I just downloaded this book to my Kindle Fire today. I haven't started it yet. I'd better! I've got to review it at the end of the month. I adore Mrs. Vetsch's books.
