Today at the Cottage...Living and Loving This Life a Little at a Time

My family is scattered today. So, for me, on this lovely day at home and about...  

A little Bible...  I listened to several Psalms on Bible Gateway. I am currently using the Geneva Bible. That's the version that the Pilgrims used.

A little errand running...  I took Lowell and Michael to work at Royal Delights.  

A little treat... lunch out with my daughter Emily of Teen for the Lord.

A little cleaning... just a general clean up. I also have been rearranging my room over the last couple of days. I still have some things to put away or declutter. 

A little cooking...  While at the restaurant, I learned that Lowell needed oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies made. So, I mixed them up and a dozen of each went into the oven before I came home. We bake them fresh as needed. They joined his cherry pie, cinnamon rolls, and more cookies. He worked late last night making two coconut meringue pies, but they sold first thing this morning.

A little reading...  I'm going to begin reading Fear and Faith. 
It's my newest review book.



A little computer time... 
 E-mail, reading a few blogs, and a little writing.

A few minutes of relaxation, no doubt with a book, then a little sleeping.

Tuesday in the Cottage... A Little

On this lovely day at home....  

A little Bible...  I've got a new NKJV Study Bible that I'll be looking through today.  I want to look at the little extras they put in it to make it a study Bible.  I'll do some reading in the book of Philippians, too.

A little errand running...  A joyous no!  I don't even have the van today.  It's a stay home day.  Praise God!

A little cleaning... just a general clean up.

A little cooking...  I've got a nice roast that I'll sear well and put in the oven this afternoon with some carrots and onions.  I'll make some mashed potatoes and gravy, too.  

A little reading...  I'm reading a biography of George Mueller aloud to the children.

A little teaching time...  Spelling, math, and such.

A little knitting... Grandmother's Favorite Dishcloth from Joy at Artful Homemaking.

A little computer time...  E-mail, linking a few posts to blog parties, reading a few blogs, and a little writing.

A lot of meetings... Another joyous no!  I do hope my oldest son will join us for dinner and pumpkin carving tonight.

A few minutes of relaxation, no doubt with a book, then a little sleeping.

On this lovely day....  A cool day with a light rain.


A little Bible...  I'm reading and listening through the book of Acts.  I keep track of where I'm at with the chronological reading plan checklist on You Version.  I'm ahead of schedule.

A little reading...  I'm reading The Four Blood Moons by John Hagee.  

A little family time... Just finished supper.  After it's all cleaned up, we're going to watch a new movie, When Calls the Heart: Lost & Found.  I'll let you know what we think.

A little computer time...  E-mail and a little writing.

A few minutes of relaxation, then a little sleeping.

A Ringing Phone and a Clicking Keyboard

I enjoyed my homemaking Saturday.  I went to a few garage sales, made enchiladas, froze corn, and baked homemade bread.  Here's how it went....

Morning was announced by the ringing of the phone. We have a very old, very loud phone.  I found this old-fashioned dial phone a few weeks ago at a yard sale.  Since my answering machine isn't hooked up, it rang and rang and rang until I woke up enough to go to the living room and answer it this morning.  It was my mother-in-law checking in.  ~smile~

 

My Amy had a birthday party to attend at 10:00.  We dropped her off, visited with the parents for a few minutes, and headed out garage saling with our sons.  My husband found this soup tureen for $5.00.  I offered $3.00 and took it home.  I'm learning to bargain. ~smile~

After a sandwich lunch, I relaxed for awhile and read a couple chapters of The Letters.  I'll be reviewing it next month.  It's about an Amish widow who decides to open their home as a bed and breakfast.  I like the way the story is told from the viewpoint of several characters.

 

Next up, blanching and freezing corn.  Lowell took me shopping at a discount grocery store yesterday.  I bought 40 ears of Peaches and Cream sweet corn for ten cents an ear.  Today I blanched and froze it.  Of course we ate some for supper with our baked chicken and $1 watermelon.

While the corn was blanching, I put together two Enchilada Casseroles for tomorrow.  I'll take one to a friend who had surgery a few days ago. 

I mixed up a big batch of bread dough just before dinner and let it rise while we were eating.  Three loaves of white bread will go to church with me tomorrow.  There's a bake sale to raise money for my little girl's Bible study class.  I had an hour or so of dishes and clean-up during which I listened to some Psalms and Proverbs.

A bedtime snack with real butter.  These rolls will complete our enchilada meal Sunday. 

 

My day began with an old-fashioned ringing phone and ended with a new-fangled keyboard sending my thoughts around the world.  It was a full day.

A little studying...  The World of Jesus:  Making Sense of the People and Places of Jesus' Day by Dr. William H. Marty

 

A little crocheting... Simple dishcloth  Chain 21, Turn, *SC in second chain from end.  SC to end of row.  Chain 1.  Turn and repeat from *.  Work until square.  Then end it off and weave in ends.

A little computer time...  E-mail, linking a few posts to blog parties, reading a few blogs, and a little writing.

A little serving...  Helping in the kitchen after our church supper.

A little church...  Pastor is teaching about  Gifts of the Holy Spirit.

A few minutes of relaxation, then a little sleeping.

Tuesday at the Cottage....

A little Bible...  I'm now listening to Deuteronomy on Bible Gateway.  I keep track of where I'm at by a reading plan checklist on You Version.  I'm ahead of schedule.

A little sewing...  I'm piecing a quilt top as a project with our church quilting group.  We're making them out of out of salvaged  polyester dresses.  I've never sewn with polyester double knit before.  A lady gave us about 250 dresses which we're seam ripping, cutting, and sewing into quilt tops.  We will then add batting and backing and tie them.  The plan is to give them to a missionary friend to distribute among the needy in Michigan.

A little reading...  I've been reading a mystery called Unbreakable.  I like mysteries, but sometimes they just seem well, a little too mysterious for me.  ~smile~  I just want everything to be okay.  Guess that's the momma in me. 

A little patienting...  I don't think that qualifies as a word, but that's what I was doing.  I had a "date" with my Lowell today.  We drove over to a nearby city and each got fillings in our teeth.  We've been without dental care too long.  Now we're paying the consequences.

A little family time...  Spaghetti for supper then a Disney movie called Sky High.

A little crocheting...  Just plain little dishclothes out of some dusty rose cotton yarn I was given.  Chain 21, SC in second chain, SC to end.  *Ch 1.  Turn.  SC in every space to the end. Repeat from * until it's square.

A little read aloud with the kids...  Crispin and the Cross of Lead.  Emily read this time so that I could crochet.

A little computer time...  Email, linking a few posts to blog parties, reading a few blogs, and a little writing.

A few minutes of relaxation, then a little sleeping.
