Inspiration from Laura Ingalls Wilder

"After Laura and Mary had washed and wiped the dishes, swept the floor, made their bed, and dusted, they settled down with their books. But the house was so cozy and pretty that Laura kept looking up at it."

- Laura Ingalls Wilder

The Little House stories had a great influence on me as a child.  I credit my make do attitude and make it myself attitude in part to Laura's stories.  Mrs. Pamela Higgs was my fourth and fifth grade teacher.  She read Little House on the Prairie to my class.  She also taught me embroidery, macrame, a bit of needlepoint and chess among other things.  It all combined to make me an old-fashioned girl.

Now, this old-fashioned girl is inspired to cozy things up around here a bit after a long hot summer.  Autumn is just around the corner.

  2. Oh I loved this post, Laura. And you have the name to go with it too! :)

I've always loved reading through the Little House books as well as watching the episodes. Ma always made their home so snug and cozy....those are my favorite times in history!

    Have a great week!

  3. Oh,I love this post and the quote! I remember reading that book during a winter when my family was snowed-in in the Smokey Mountains. Sitting by the woodstove in a rocking chair my Daddy made and reading by lamplight (no power!, I felt so much like Laura, too.

  5. Just stopping by to say hello :) I saw this post, and I had to check it out because I love Laura Ingalls. My third grade teacher read it to our class, and I read the books to all of my children when we homeschooled- even my boys. I think that I most appreciate how Pa never complained. Even when he ate a potato without butter, he said how much he enjoyed it plain because a little salt just brings out the flavor! What great books. Thanks for stopping by thefundamentalhome.com Hope to see you again soon!
