Pinned It Did It Feeding the Wood

Recently, my husband, Lowell,  and I were talking about building a house someday.  He had sketched out a floor plan that he likes.

"Oh I want to show you a kitchen I like. I pinned it on Pinterest." I said.

I showed him; he liked it.  Since we were bonding over Pinterest, I showed him this library.

Suddenly, the beauty of Pinterest was revealed to my husband when he saw this.

I thought to myself, maybe we should do this next weekend.  My husband, however, is a make it happen sort of man. We clicked through the pin to get to the original source, Lily & Thistle, and found that the correct recipe is 1/4 cup vinegar to 3/4 cup canola oil.

I brought him a rag and the ingredients, and he promptly got to work on our table first.  It looked better, but no major difference.
The next thing I knew, our nightstands were setting on top of our dining table!

Our tables are old, but they look so much better.

  1. Hi Laura this is such a useful post, thank you. I love old wood as it has a richness and depth you don't find in new wood. We have some old things (including me!) so I am going to try your recipe out. Have a fabulous Monday
    Lots of love

  5. Very funny, I can just see him running through the house :)
Well I have just about painter over every worn piece of furniture in our house. But the wood that still looks good I re-applied a stain mixed with polyurethane on it. Looks really freshened up.

  6. Hi Tammy,

I hope it works for you. When I tried my kitchen table, my results weren't as good. Perhaps it's just too worn. You might try a product called Old English. It's a bottle of liquid that you put on a cloth and rub over the worn spots. It's miraculous! It's got a bit of stain in it, I think. Find it with the furniture polish at Wal-Mart or hardware store.

  7. Hi Roxy,

What was the name of that stain? I might like to try it, too.
