A Thrifty Week at Harvest Lane Cottage #20

Dear Sweet Reader,

Another busy week at Harvest Lane Cottage and at Royal Delights Cafe and Bakery... It was a week of running errands, working lunchtimes at the cafe, homeschooling, and homemaking.
~  A stack of homemade crocheted dishcloths, a big bottle of dish soap, and a little candle in a teacup made a lovely shower gift for my friend this week.
~ I ordered some new review books.
~  I sterilized a jar, mixed together a cup of freshly ground rye flour and a cup of purified water.  I'm moving the mix to another sterilized bowl daily and adding another cup of rye flour and another cup of purified water.  If all goes well, in a few days I'll have sourdough starter to make Serene's Sourdough bread.  The recipe is in the Trim Healthy Mama book.
~ Excellent garage sale hunting over the weekend.  A like-new pair of cowboy boots for my son, size 13.  He talked them down to $10!  New skirts for the Amy and Emily and lots of other things.  I even found a gift for a friend.  You'll no doubt see some of Emily's purchases on her Pretty Thrifty.
~ I bought two like new shirts for my husband, a pair of jeans, a jean skirt, a belt, and a pair of flip flops for less than $20 at thrift shops.
~ I started some sprouts that should be ready in a day or two.

Just a few little things.  Little things add up though!  Have a wonderful thrifty weekend!

  2. Dear Laura, You did have a busy week! I also found a great deal at our thrift store! A new set of electric curlers for 3.00 dollars.
Looking forward to church today and a nice meal and of course cake! Let me know how your Rye sour bread starter turns out!
    Happy Mothers Day to YOU!

  3. Hi Roxy,
I hope your Mother's Day was perfect. Mine's been unusual but wonderful. I'm learning to flex a lot with expectations. In fact, I chose not to have any expectations at all for today or my birthday tomorrow. I feel a lot more peaceful, too.
    Blessings,
    Laura

  5. HI Deb,
I messed the sourdough up. I forgot to change bowls daily. I ended up with some nasty looking and smelling stuff. I don't know if it was "bad" or not. I wish I had someone here to show me.
    Blessings,
    Laura

  6. Laura - I love reading your posts - I need to write down the things I do! I'll probably feel more accomplised instead of looking at what I haven't completed yet - I do appreciate you sharing with A Return to Loveliness,
    Kathy

  7.  Hi Kathy,
I know exactly how you feel. My to do list both on paper and mentally is so long, I feel like a failure. I'd rather look at the little good that I have done.
    Blessings,
