A Thrifty Week at Harvest Lane Cottage #50

Hello! Another week enjoying the blessings of the Lord.
~ I made super quick super cheap laundry soap. I made it double strength because I wash a lot of towels and jeans. This is the easiest laundry detergent recipe you'll find.
~ Made soup from leftovers
~ Used a 40% off coupon from Hobby Lobby to buy an inexpensive ball of yarn to make Valentine's dishcloths
~ Shopped with a grocery list and bought only 3 cans of salmon for our meat purchases this week.
~ Cooked primarily from the pantry and freezer
~ Shopped at Aldi for my veggies and dairy
~ Shopped at the Thrift Store and didn't buy a thing!
~ I decluttered two bags of stuff. That's real estate investment— two cubic feet for free!

Good news! All the money from the fraudulent bank charges has been returned! It took a lot of emails, but God blessed us! A hearty thank you to everyone who prayed for us. There will be an extra bean in the pot next week!

  1. Oh, dear Laura! How I PRAISE GOD for allowing ALL of your money to be returned! This is just wonderful news! And, I love your recipe for laundry soap...it is so much easier and simpler than the ones I have tried. I usually dread making it, because it is so labor-intensive and time consuming. THIS recipe, I will definitely try to make. I pinned it so I won't forget. I also pinned the dishcloth pattern. I have been searching for a very simple one that I can remember, so I do believe I have found that here! So thankful for you and your suggestions and your beautiful heart. God bless you abundantly, my friend. :)

  4. Mrs. Laura,

What a great week. I love Aldi. We no longer have one in the new town we moved to. This is why my grocery budget has significantly increased. Plus, the area is metro and expensive. I have shopped at Aldi for at least 8 years until now. It has been such a big loss. :)

The closest one is 3 hours. Oh well, I have been trying to find other ways to make up for the increase. You can no beat the produce prices at Aldi.

    You have a blessed day!

  9. I'm going to have to try making your dishcloths soon. Such a fun project. Sounds like you had great grocery shopping trips. Aldi's does have some great produce prices.

So glad you were able to get all your money back!

    Have a blessed week

  10. Praise the Lord! So happy your money was returned! Sounds like you had a very thrifty week. It feels good to do a lot and not spend a ton of money in the process, doesn't it?
I have to go grocery shopping today and I'm hoping to buy most of my items on sale. My son decided to help me cut some coupons, so I best remember to take them with me. (I always forget the darn coupons every time) :)
I should try to think of a Valentine craft to do, but I'd rather not. It's my Birthday and I'd rather celebrate!! :)
I hope you have a delightful week, Laura!

  11. Hi Amy, your post made me grin. I never seem to find coupons for items I buy. When I do, I tend to forget them also.

You might think of something small to create. I'm making another dishcloth with the Grandmother's Favorite knitting pattern. It's easy and satisfying. Cheap and quick to make, too.

    Blessings,
    Laura

  12. What a wonderful week of blessings! So thankful you had your money returned to you, as that is always such a difficulty to deal with something like that. I'm thankful for the "extra bean" in your pot for next week... hope you continue to have a blessed and wonderful week! :)
