Hello ladies,

I did it again! I missed posting on time. This post will be for two weeks this time. What a crazy year this has been! I hope to have lots to share next week. I am doing what I can to use what's in the house. We had extra expenses last month that really added up (house and car repairs especially). This month, I need to try to make up for it. We all know that the easiest way to save money is in the kitchen.

Here's what I've been up to lately.

~ I made two loaves of apple zucchini bread and wrapped one for the freezer. It came in handy when a friend came by for iced tea and a chat.

~My husband recently made old-fashioned fried chicken livers. It's a thrifty dish!

~ I ordered a set of sparkly nail polish strips from Lily & Fox for $2.99 with free shipping. They have great styles, and I've been pleased with the quality. I usually change them after about ten days, because my nails grow quickly, or I want a change. ~smile~ They sent me a free set that's perfect for the end of summer. What a deal! They are so easy. I make them last longer by using Sally Hanson Gel top coat. No lamp needed.

~ I made envelopes from scrapbook paper and scrap paper. I've had the paper in a box for years and years. I bought glue stick for $.50 for two tubes at a back-to-school sale.

~ I made old-time lemonade with bottled juice from Aldi.

~ I read Husband Auditions—a book I received for free from the publisher for review. See my review and enter the giveaway for a free book.

~ I bought a sausage biscuit from McDonalds when I was out early one morning. I used a gift card that my sister-in-love gave me. Thank you Debbie! Another day, my husband and I both got a sausage biscuit.

~ I made iced tea several times with one family size Lipton tea bag and one single serve peach or peppermint tea bag. Both were refreshing.

~ I finished knitting a pair of socks made with leftover sock yarn that someone gave me.

~ I made homemade granola with honey that had crystalized and added the last of a bag of coconut that had been hiding out in the freezer and a few chopped pecans.

Sorry for the blurry photo!

~ I knit a couple of child size hats for charity with yarn my friend Beth gave to me. She got a bargain and bought a boxful of yarn for $2!

~ I made pasta sauce using tomatoes and peppers from the garden.

~ I made simple note paper from leftover scrap paper.

~ We planted small mums in the front planter box. They'll grow.

~ I blended the last too big cucumbers with water, strained out the pulp, and froze the juice in an ice cube tray for later use. This was part of the #everybitcountschallenge on Instagram.

As you can see, they grew too big and the seeds were enormous!

It took a bit of time for the juice to drip through.

I ended up with two freezer trays full.

~ I made peanut butter granola since the honey pecan granola was a hit.

~ I'm listening to Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe on Scribd.

~ Lastly, I ordered plain unsweet tea when I met my girlfriends to knit at the coffee shop. I sipped on it for hours for only a couple of bucks.

For those of us who are praying for healing....

* One thing that helps me keep busy is listening to audio books on Scribd

It's only $9.99 a month for unlimited audiobooks from major publishers, books, magazines, sheet music, podcasts, and documents as you want.

I get well over $9.99 a month in value. I love it.

You can get a free 2 month trial by using my Scribd  link. I'll get a month free, too, so it's win-win to try it out.

In love since 1981.
For richer or poorer since 1986.

    1. My husband just read about the cubes, and he wondered what they were for. ~smile~ They'll end up in some lemonade, limeade, or just ice water.
Bless you friend. You inspire me.

  3. You really have been busy!! I wish I lived close enough for a visit, I’d bring my socks too. Do you have a recipe for your granola with honey? Your mums are going to be great in that area. Enjoy your weekend. Hugs,

    1. Once upon a time, I paid $25 for gel nails every 2-3 weeks. $3 three or four times a month is big savings!
      Good for you Roxy.

  7. Sounds like you had a good frugal week! Every little bit helps. We have so many leftovers in the freezer that we can eat which will cost us nothing more than a bit of electricity to fix. And I'm trying to go longer between laundry loads so we can save on water. We're not on a tight budget, but I still enjoy finding ways to stretch our money. Hope you have a good evening, Laura!

    1. Hi Kristina, It sounds like you're a busy lady, too. My husband and I were ill for awhile this summer, and the garden got away from us, so no tomatoes to can. We did get to enjoy them fresh though. I'll be over to visit your blog in just a bit. Blessings, Laura of Harvest Lane Cottage
