A Fun Family Tradition... A Little Early for Us!

Family Pumpkin Carving
2014

We usually get so busy in October that we wait until November to carve pumpkins!  You see, we don't associate carving pumpkins with Halloween.  We just have fun seeing how we can clean all the yuck out and make something fun.  For years we have read a book called The Pumpkin Patch Parable by Liz Curtis Higgs.  I highly recommend it.  She shows how God has redeemed something for good just like He wants to redeem us if we'll accept Jesus as our Savior and let Him clean us up and give us a new countenance.

May God bless you all as you direct your attention to Jesus Christ, the author and finisher of our faith.

Blessings,

  1. My children love to carve pumpkins and roast the seeds inside! I was able to meet Liz Curtis Higgs at Allume last week, and she was a super sweet lady. Very down-to-earth, with a great sense of humor.

    Blessings!!

  2. Hello Sara Elizabeth,
It was so good to see your note. My younger son roasted the seeds, and the kids snacked on them this morning.

I'd love to meet Liz in person! I sent her a photo of my husband reading the Pumpkin Patch Parable book and she wrote back.
She seems like she'd make a good friend.

I do enjoy your blog. If we were closer, I'd invite you for tea and cookies. ~smile~

  5. Hi Roxy,
We had a pumpkin patch one year, and I loved it! It was so fun searching for babies. I remember harvesting by the light of a full-ish moon. Memories... light the corners of my mind....
    Have a wonderful weekend.

Blessings to you from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,

  9. I grew up always carving pumpkins for Halloween, but as I've gotten older (or closer to the Lord), Halloween has gotten scarier, yuckier & more & more not for me. I still like dressing up, though :) Once I got married, pumpkins seemed to fall by the wayside as our anniversary is in October & it's always such a busy month! Now that our son will be an October baby, it's even busier! All that to say, I read this post to my husband last night & we both thought it was a great idea! We are looking forward to family photos in the pumpkin patch this year, then reading the story & carving our pumpkins in November. Thank you for a new family tradition, Laura! :)

  10. That's so sweet Heather! I am truly honored to play a small part in redeeming something so symbolic.
Enjoy your tradition and make many. They mean so much in keeping a family close.

God bless you all and your baby!

Thanks for writing me back!
