A Thrifty Week at Harvest Lane Cottage #12

Hi Y'all!

It's been a relaxing week here at the cottage.  Mister has been home on a two week vacation!  Wow!  The first one in twenty-five years!  We've been busy about the house sprucing things up, relaxing, watching some movies, getting caught up on paperwork and such.

Here is my thrifty week:

~ I patched five pairs of jeans, two for each son and one for my daughter.  I spent $1.98 for thread versus about $100 for new jeans.

~ I hemmed a pair of jeans that were looking a bit frayed for my husband.  They'll look nice for awhile longer.

~ I made easy peasy laundry soap.  RECIPE

~ I filled up my IBC root beer bottle  with dish soap.  It has a little olive oil pour spout in it that makes my dish soap last a long time.

~ I cut up some old t-shirts for cleaning rags.  My husband had snuck my rag bag out to his shed and was using the ones I had.

~ I pared apples from our tree for an apple pie.  Hubby made it and it was delicious!

~ I read books that I received for free in exchange for an honest book review.

~ I used a Starbucks card that I earned through Swagbucks for using their search engine.  You can find out more by clicking the link below.  If you sign up through this link, I get credit.

Well, that's all I can think of right now.  Have a terrific weekend!

Blessings,
Laura

Yes! Michael is doing so much better. Nearly all the soreness is gone in his chest. His cuts are healing nicely, too. Thanks so much for asking.
Have a terrific weekend. I'm about to pop over to your blog for a little visit.

    Blessings to you!

  9. I love that you mend and make things last longer. WE are in such a throw away world now and we need to change that. I love swag bucks and usually get Amazon gift cards so I can buy books. Thanks for linking up your great tips at TTF this week.

  10. Hi Linda,
Honestly, I find we need to mend to make our dollars stretch. It's odd that our culture talks of being green, but we don't do the old-fashioned common sense things. ~smile~

  14. Hi Laura,
How funny, you probably wondered why I responded the way I did. My best friend is also Laura Smith. She moved across state a couple of years ago. I just saw the name and thought you were she until I clicked to check out your blog!

  15. So glad to find your blog! You are an inspiration to help readers see how to be debt free with little choices over time. We've been debt free for years and it's helped me raise my children without depriving them of anything they really need.

  17. Hi Judith,

I just returned from the first family vacation we've had in years. ~smile~ We were in such a remote place in the Ozark Mountains, we didn't even have cell phone service let alone internet access. ~smile~ Oh, they were four lovely days!

  18. Hi Jamie,

I sometimes feel like I'm depriving my children, because I'm comparing what I do to what was done for me as a child. Really though, my children don't feel deprived. One of the reasons is that they don't watch t.v. just approved videos. They don't see all the latest stuff. Secondly, they're homeschooled, so they don't have the peer pressure.

They're thankful for what they receive. That means so much to me.

I'm off to visit your blog. Thanks for talking back!

    Blessings,
    Laura
