A Thrifty Week at Harvest Lane Cottage #81

Welcome to another thrifty week at Harvest Lane Cottage. I am honored by your visit.  Each week I share my thrifty and frugal projects, ways of saving money, and my blessings from God.

I am so glad you dropped in for a visit today—or tonight!

♥♥♥
Hello!
Fall is here— or it should be. We're still waiting for crisp mornings and chilly evenings. I burned a Maple Pumpkin Muffin candle to celebrate the first day of fall. I had planned on a nice cup of tea, but didn't get it made. I didn't seem to relax much yesterday.
Have you read The Thrifty Woman's
Real Estate Investment Strategy yet?
This next week I should be busy with real estate investment.  We've got too much stuff in this little house, and it's time to move some of it out. My friend is coming over with her things next Thursday for a yard sale. The date is set. Now I have to make progress! No more putting it off. I hope my husband will help me this weekend.

Next week, the post may be a little late... or I may skip a week again. We'll see how busy I am this week. I intend to write every week, but once in awhile life gets in the way. Imagine that....

Here's my thrifty week:
  • Saturday lunch out with Lowell and my daughters. $1.99 fish and fries special at Long John Silver's... Three of us substituted hush puppies for fries. It was quite filling for eight dollars and tax.
  • A last apple crisp from the apples my friend gave me.
  • Rebuild transmission on new-to-me van under warranty (within 500 miles of the warranty ending) Praise God and thanks to my husband for noticing something wasn't working right.
  • Loaner car free
  • Husband got good deals on veggies at Aldi
  • Bleach and Oxiclean off brands at Dollar Tree $1 each
  • Mended a towel that was coming unsewn
  • Used up veggies and things on hand
Well, that's my thrifty week.

What are you doing in your home this week?

  1. I saw the jugs of bleach at Dollar Tree and plan to buy several when I run out.
Have you priced name brand bleach lately? It is crazy how expensive it is.

    Have a good weekend ❤️

  3. I need to work on my real estate investment too. The third bedroom that serves as an office/pantry/craft & sewing area and has way to much stuff. It keeps getting pushed to the bottom of my list. :) Hope you have a successful garage sale!

  4. Mostly laundry, hanging pics, stocking bookshelves (still moving in, lol). We had the slab poured for Dh's shop/storage today, and later Ds has soccer.
We may have to buy a new lawn mower (ours is 19 yrs old and just too much to fix), so not very frugal, but I did cook chili so we can eat in. Does that count? lol

    1. You've been quite busy, Tammy. I don't seem to be getting things done as quickly as I'd like lately. I hope the lawn mower that you get is a good one. Sometimes we just have to spend money.
      Be blessed!

  5. I am so ready for fall too. The candle sounds like it would be so wonderful to smell. Love fall and all the scents and colors that goes with it.
Best wishes on your yard sale.
Busy. busy.. always something to do, isnt it?

    1. Guess what Judy? My husband hated the Maple Pumpkin Muffin candle! I could barely smell it, but it bothered him. Go figure. It was just a votive, so I tossed the rest. Better to have a happy hubby. ~smile~

I've got to make some major progress on the yard sale in the next few days. I don't have much to sell yet, but I have a ton of junk!

      Have a great week,
      Laura

  6. Just got done with our second garage sale this year today! It's a lot of work but so worth it. We then donated everything that didn't sell this time. I need to get me a nice fall candle. There is definitely a fall feel to the air in Michigan.

    1. I've been going through things, but it seems that someone wants to keep most things we have. That's not going to make for a very good sale! It's hard making so many decisions in such a short period.
      Be blessed,

    2. Letting go is hard. We both agreed on the things to sell. He won't let me in his garage though! ha ha It's better to keep things that way you don't have to buy them again when you need them. Seriously!

  7. You did well Laura! I am so glad your husband noticed that problem on your car while it was still under warranty. Our little car just dies and needed to have the engine replaced. It was going to cost more to replace the engine than the car was worth. :( My hubby rented a car dolly and brought it home today. He will take the tires and wheels off it and try to sell those and then call a salvage yard to see if they will take it.

    1. That's the way our van that died was, Debbie. Someone came and bought it from us for $400. You might see if someone wants it as is on Craig's List. You never know. You might get more for it that way.
      Blessings,
      Laura

  9. Sounds like a busy time. The candle sounds lovely. Fall is a wonderful time of year. We went out three times today. Farmer's market, then home. Went out again to pick up my husband's car that was getting repaired...back home and then out again to the grocery store and Home Depot. Getting ready for a dinner party here Sunday night, so I shall be cooking and baking. Hope your weekend goes well.

    1. Hi Spicing Up,

Today wasn't frugal. I hadn't planned well enough for lunch before my Christmas Prep party. My hubby ended up taking us out. It was fast food, but still a big expense when there are 5 in the family.

      Have a terrific week,
      Laura

  11. I have been looking at Abe.com for books that I want to buy - some much cheaper and it really doesn't matter that they are second-hand :) I have found some excellent bargains.

  12. Good luck with your projects! I too want to get rid of many things in my house but I am so busy with the kids in school and the baby, that I just can't find the time to do it. :)
