Do you know Jesus? Would you like to?
I accepted Him as my savior over 40 years ago on New Year's Day. Jim Bakker was on the PTL Club show interviewing an ex-drug addict. I thought, if Jesus can forgive a drug addict, maybe He can forgive me, too. I was 14. Just old enough to feel the burden of sin. That thought led to a month long journey of "finding" God.
When I went back to school, I asked Kim, a girl on my bus, if I could go to church with her. I'm sure she was stunned. I visited church with her. One of my neighbors, Pat, attended her church. From that point on, Pat showed up every Sunday rain or shine. I was going to church. She stood up to my mom, and weekly attendance was established. Period. No discussion. Better be sicker than a dog if I tried to back out! ~smile~ Thank God for Pat! By the end of the month, I'd walked the aisle, been baptised, and became a member of Rolling Hills Christian Church. Good salt-of-the-earth people.
My life changed slowly; but, I can honestly say, I'm nothing like I was. You seriously would not have wanted to know this angry teenager who had been told she was worthless until she believed it. It's been a long journey. God has transformed me. Reading His word has transformed me. Listening to His Word has transformed me. Praying has transformed me. Worshiping God has transformed me. Being with God's people has transformed me. Thank you God!
Have you begun your story?
Let's start the new year right.
Examine your heart.
Talk with God. Repent of any sins. Ask God for forgiveness. Ask Jesus to be the Lord, the boss of your life.
It's the best new year's resolution I ever made or kept!
Have a terrific New Year's Day and week.
Blessings from Harvest Lane Cottage,
Laura

Thank you, Lynn. I'll be right over.
DeleteGod Bless You and your family Laura. You have been such an inspiration for me to truly turn my life over to Jesus. I came to a somewhat startling awakening recently.I truly believe that Jesus is my Savior, and have been a believer since I was old enough to remember. But, have I given Him the Honor and Glory of being my LORD? I sat and thought about that for a LONG time..and realized I did NOT always put Him first in my life. I felt horribly ashamed, but also thankful for the Holy Spirit moving in my heart and soul to bring me to such an awareness.for only then could I begin to rectify my behavior...to live every moment of every day as Jesus wants us to. A challenge indeed, but WOW..the reward is beyond words!! 2017 is a new year and a new beginning in my journey to have Jesus the LORD AND SAVIOR in my life. I cannot begin to tell you what a wonderful feeling fills my heart as I excitedly look forward to my journey with Jesus walking beside me through it all. I know I will stumble and fall at times, it's a given, but to know and always be aware that Jesus is there to help me up and heal my wounds is such a peaceful and comforting feeling. THANK YOU for sharing your testimony and faith. I am thankful to have found your blog. It has been a blessing in my life. Sending a Big Hug to you from Illinois. Karla

Very good post. I am using my Joyce Myers daily devotional (gift from Nana Pam) and one from a blogger online. Best way to start the day and then I meditated for 20 minutes. It is good to help me digest the word and to get myself ready for the day. Isn't it wonderful that we can share like this! Do you have a Bible study that you started?
ReplyDeleteDear Ginger Dawn,
DeleteI've always enjoyed learning from Joyce Meyer. She has a way of cutting right through the excuses, and getting to the truth, doesn't she?
I'm not using a study right now. I'm reading and listening through the Bible using YouVersion's Canonical reading plan. It gives me the chance to check off boxes as I go. I do like checking boxes! I may add a specific study later this year.
Have a wonderful week and a happy new year. Thank you so much for writing to me. I hope we become good blog friends!
Sincerely,
Laura
