Happy Homemaker Monday and My Daybook ~ October 2, 2017

Dear Ladies,

Hello again! I am feeling a bit better each day as I get farther away from my last chemo treatment. It's nice to know that my body is finally getting a chance to recover without being knocked down again.

I have a date for my surgery. It will be October 20th. At first, I was unhappy that I have to wait nearly three more weeks. After some thought, I remembered that I prayed that God would put the right people in place for each part of this journey. It may be that I need the particular anesthesiologist or nurse or person that sterilizes the equipment that day. I don't know. I do know that God is the one in control, and I must trust him. It may be that he knew my body needed to heal more or maybe that I just needed a break from doctors and medical facilities to enjoy my favorite month!

Over the years, I've linked my day books with The Simple Woman, and later, I changed format and linked with Happy Homemaker Monday. Right now I feel I need simplicity, so I'm going to keep it simple and easy.

May God bring you strength, patience, hope, and perseverance during the days to come. In my last day book, I mentioned my Cousin Gloria in Florida. Her family was safe and her home were not damaged. Thank you God! Many are still recovering in the aftermath of the many natural disasters. Sometimes it just all seems like too much, BUT GOD.

Outside my window...
The sky is dark. I see lights from the highway.

I am thinking...
I will be so glad when I completely recover from this chemo. I wonder what the next step, surgery and recovery, will be like.

I am thankful...
I have insurance that will pay my medical bills through the end of this year. Trusting God for next year. A change in insurance has already been predicted, but we haven't seen details yet.

In the kitchen...
I made Jalapeno Popper Chicken Soup from the Trim Healthy Mama Cookbook last night. That was the second book. We had leftovers for lunch today.

I am wearing...
I'm wearing my orange dress. I would never buy an orange dress. The catalog showed a tan dress. I cannot remember the name of the color, but it was not orange. I was going through chemo, so I didn't return it.

I am creating...
nothing right now. I really should think about Christmas.

I am going...
to make some plans tomorrow and update my calendar. I need to make a list of all the things I or someone needs to do before surgery. I know. I need to take it easy, but it may be months before I feel somewhat good again. I don't know what to expect.

I am wondering...
what the rest of this year is going to look like for our family. I need surgery and radiation. My husband also needs knee replacement surgery. I don't know how it's all going to work out.

I am reading...
A Gathering of Days at Karen Andreola's suggestion.

I am hoping...
to get a little time to relax this week, and to do something fun, too. It's been a long time since I've done anything fun.

I am looking forward to...

I am learning...
I have to be proactive about my symptoms and side effects. One of my medicines was causing weakness and pain in my legs that made it difficult to walk. I figured out what it was myself, confirmed with my pharmacist, then saw my doctor a couple days later. He took me off the medicine. My legs are improving, but I am still having pain—especially at night.

Around the house...
I've got the general cleaning up that always needs to be done after a busy weekend.

I am pondering...
not much right now truthfully.

A favorite quote for today...

  3. I giggled about the orange dress. I'll bet it looks great on you, plus it's the season for orange! So enjoy! It must be challenging to get your mind off of all the things still facing you and your family, but how wonderful that the chemo is behind you! I pray that the chemo was the worst part and the rest will seem much easier for you. Continuing to pray for you!

  4. So you like looking like part of the prison road crew? An orange dress, that is a first. You just sound like you are feeling a little better my friend. I would like to say don't over do but I know that will be ignored. Don't over do....:)

  5. So glad you are feeling better. I continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

I ordered a Crimson dress that was orange when it got to the house. I would blame my computer but the written description was Crimson. Like you I kept it, wore it a couple of times and now it hangs in the closet mocking me.

  8. Orange! Only in the fall, and mostly on pumpkins.
Speaking of which I will tell you what we did yesterday. Just another stupid thing to make you laugh! We were driving back toward home on the four lane yesterday.
There was a nice pumpkin sitting on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere, all by itself except for some stringy vine attached to it. I am guessing it fell off a truck, but who knows ?

My Sweet heart and I laughed saying we’d turn around and go get it.
Well he did! ! He pulled right up next to it pretty as you please, and I opened the door and got a hold of it. Just about the time I thought I would break off that stringy vine, it broke itself off! The pumpkin bounced hit the shoulder, and rolled into the ditch.

Naturally we were laughing our heads off, but I climbed out, picked it up and set it in the car. It was not even dented, just as nice as you’d ever want. He said it could not have even been close to ripe to bounce like that.
We laughed all the way home. I will use it for a prop for the grand Little’s photo, then you can bet I will save those seeds for next year. How often do you find s treasure like that?

I enjoy your day book! Still praying for you!
    Many blessings dear friend!

  11. I was so excited to see your post! I am glad things are getting better for you. Those online color descriptions are just kind of potluck aren't they? It happens to me way too often! I have had two surgeries and after the initial pain of the first week or so it is mainly tiredness. Everyone I have ever talked to about surgery agrees that the quicker you can ditch the pain meds the better and the quicker you start to heal. I will be praying for you as you prepare and for the actual day and recovery. I believe as you do that God picked the day and time. He is so good to us!

Our youngest daughter and her family who are our only local family leave for the mission field next week. We raised our children to serve and to go where God sends them but this is really hard right now. I think it will be easier once they have gone but right now we are all emotional and exhausted. Our weather has been beautiful and for that I am thankful. I have the screen door letting in fresh breezes and the sound of the birds today and that is a balm to our hearts.

  12. Am lifting you up in my thoughts and prayers here, my friend, and will not stop. Love the idea of the orange dress, even if it was a mistake. It sounds perfect for autumn! You may not know what the rest of the year is going to look like for your family, but you know the One Who does and He will not fail you. Rest in Him and know that He is always shedding just enough light for the step you're on. I love you, Lady! Let me know if the 19th will work for you (check your FB messenger). I'll see you soon! <3
