On My Needles... What I'm Reading... February 7, 2019

Hi Y'all!

Winter's finally come to southern Missouruh Missouri. It's flat cold tonight—18° with a windchill of 6°. That's more than frigid enough for me thank you very much. We've had rain during this lovely freeze, therefore the schools were cancelled for cold and ice. There are a lot of kids who ride buses around here. I was thrilled this afternoon when it began to snow. There's not much accumulation yet. I'm hoping there will be more tomorrow.

So, what to do on a cold winter's night? Sit a bit in front of the fire with my sweet husband, simmer chicken veggie rice soup on the stove for supper, and soon I'll knit a bit and read a bit. After awhile, most likely there will be cocoa. My Amy and my Emily will be home soon to watch "Do You Believe?" with our friend Lily.

I finished Emily's CC Beanie hat in Garnet Heather just in time for the cold weather. I found the pom pom on Amazon in a package of twelve.

The gray hat is my son's hat. I made it for him for Christmas, but he asked me to add some length to it. I cut off the ribbing at the bottom, put it back on the needles, and I knitted another couple of inches in stockinette stitch. Now I'm knitting a two by two ribbing. I will have to search YouTube for a stretchy cast-off.

I hope to finish it soon and get it back to him. I've not had time to work on my shawl much. Maybe when I'm done with Matthew's hat.

This month I am reading Christy by Catherine Marshall for the book club my friend Kathriann invited me to attend. I'm about a hundred pages in. I am really surprised how interesting it is. It's almost entirely based on true events experienced by Mrs. Marshall's mother, but the book is written as fiction.

Check out my too long to read Christy Winter Reading List. I actually just got a notification that yet another book not on my list has just arrived from interlibrary loan. I don't know how I'll read it all. Some will probably show up on my spring list.

What have you been up to?

Be blessed,
Laura

    1. Thanks, Lisa. I bought a package of pompoms from Amazon. I'll put them on hats for awhile now. I have also found some tutorials for making them myself. Maybe next year's hats!

Soup, a movie, and hot cocoa is always a cozy combo!

  2. Hi Laura, Catherine Marshall is a lovely author; I have read lots of her books over the years; she has a lot to offer us as we seek to love Christ! You have made some lovely knits! Thank you so much for visiting my blog and leaving a comment, that's so kind! I believe you were asking about the Miss Read books! This link has lots of info about her books and I hope that helps - I have read lots of them and find them to be quite cheery, encouraging and full of kindness! https://www.bookseriesinorder.com/miss-read/

  3. It's crazy-cold everywhere in the US right now! Fireplace and soup are great ways to manage that. And 4 hats so far this year - way to go!

    1. It sure seems crazy, Jody. If I'd must have cold, I'd like to have some snow to go with it. All we've gotten is ice and a tiny sprinkle of snow.
Hope to stay in touch with you!

  4. I love the snowflake hat. You quite talented. Learning to knit is on my list to learn. I can't figure out casting on. Hubby's cousin was suppose to teach me while visiting from Iowa. Sadly, we ran out of time.

Thanks for tip of reading history aloud. It has lessened my time spend preparing for school. I do believe Megan and I are enjoying it more this way.

    1. Thanks Wendi! I don't know if it's talent or perseverance. It's hard and easy all at the same time. I had to fix mistakes along the way, believe me.

I'm glad about the reading history aloud. It was one of our favorite things when our children were younger.

      Be blessed,
      Laura

  5. The hats are very nice. Love the garnet color! Happy reading too. I tell you it was plum cold here this morning and thru the day. We had mostly rain yesterday but then a little snow that did not last long.
