One of my favorite bloggers is Billie Jo from Afternoon Coffee and Evening Tea. Billie Jo encourages me so much. I love the way she celebrates everything. Yes. Everything. She has great style, but it is her enthusiasm, love of home, family, her doggies, and candles that makes me feel appreciation for her and for my home and family. She's so positive, and Jesus just seeps through her in her zest for life.
She just posted a "Things I Like and Things I Don't" list. She asked us to share, too. So, here's my list in abbreviated form as I think of them this morning.
A Few Things I like:
~ Old-fashioned phone calls from friends and family
~ Learning! I'm taking a free online course from Hillsdale College: Western Heritage from the Book of Genesis to John Locke. It's been challenging, but good.
~ A good balance of time with people and by myself
~ Giving gifts
~ A new type of relaxing music that I've found on YouTube. It has storybook style animals and ambient music. Here's one I listened to yesterday. I find it very nice to play in the background as I'm doing other things.
~ Black and white movies
~ Cozy fall and winter times
~ Knitting— especially socks
~ Candles, candles and more candles
~ Making things from what I have on hand
~ Sewing
~ Cozy mystery books
~ Learning new skills ~ I'm learning to twine weave a rug.
Things I don't like:
Mustard on or in anything but a Schlotzky sandwich
Tight clothes or excess skin showing on anyone
Raspberries and blackberries
Dirty words
Acrylic clothes or yarn
Horror movies
True crime books or movies
So, that's just a few of my likes and dislikes. I'd love you to share some of yours with me as well.
Be blessed,
Laura

I've taken some free courses through Hillsdale college. Usually in tbe summer. Learning is fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid that I started this course on Western Heritage last spring and got off track. I'm about halfway through now. I hope to finish it in a few weeks. I encourage you to enjoy it.
DeleteI have some Scots Irish in my line as well as lots of English. If I were to take one of those DNA tests, who knows what it would say? This is what my grammy told me when I was younger. I enjoy the celtic music that I've heard.
Thanks so much for writing to me!

I love Celtic music and always have, Laura. Chalk it up to my ancestral roots in Irish and Scottish heritage. Mystical, lyrical, serene. Points us toward the Lord as we meditate upon His Word. I've been wanting to take those free courses at Hillsdale College, too. Our lives have been so disjointed at present that I haven't set aside the time to do so as of yet. Thanks for giving me this reminder! Blessings!

That's a great list, Laura. I think I share a lot of those, especially the dislikes. I watched a modern romantic movie with my husband yesterday and, although the storyline was very sweet, it was littered with foul language. Give me a good old black and white film every time. I don't think Casablanca or Brief Encounter would have stood the test of time if they had been peppered with swear words.
ReplyDeleteI love living in the countryside, embroidery, reading, my garden and trying out new recipes. I also love mending things and stretching the pennies.
My hates include litter, cruelty to animals and the modern assumption that we should all be outraged about something all the time!
It sounds like we have a lot in common, Tracy. I watched an Cary Grant movie yesterday while my husband was away. It was "Once Upon a Time". I knit and relaxed. It was so nice. I enjoy seeing the nice clothes and the nice manners in the old movies. My dad says it really was like that back in the day.

I am shocked that you don't like raspberries or blackberries as they are two of our favorites. I also love true crime!
ReplyDeleteHi Carol! I guess we must have something in common or we wouldn't keep visiting each other. ~smile~ Just think— you'd love having me around. You'd get all the berries to yourself! I don't pass up a good ripe strawberry. ~grin~

I must say I agree with many of the things on both of your lists - especially giving gifts - that is my love language! BTW... I love Billie Jo too 💘 Thanks for signing up to follow my blog - I have added you to my list of blogs to visit!
ReplyDeleteHi Carrie,
DeleteIsn't it fun making new blog friends? There was a time, back in the day, when I didn't think there was anyone around that liked the things I do. The blog world helped me find people who think more like me.

Things I like: coffee, junk journaling, staying at home, reading good books, the YT channel that I think the content creator of the video you show also runs named forRest Mind Ambience (the little hedgehog gave it away). Things I don't like: paperwork (unless I'm listening to something else, hot weather, very cold weather, plantar fasciitis! :-D
ReplyDeleteOh, I just looked up that channel. I am listening to Books and Tea in the Rabbit Hole. It's wonderful! Thank you so much for telling me about it. I like to listen to books, too. I listen to several chapters of Bible each day as well.

I'm praying right now for your plantar fasciitis. I've heard that's very painful. Jesus is good. Asking for your healing now.

I also follow Billie Jo and always feel encouraged when I've visited her blog.
ReplyDeleteMany or your likes are also mine although I use a LOT of acrylic yarn for my charity knitting because it all has to be machine washable/dry.
Among other things that we both love is hot cocoa, candles, cozy mysteries and I listen to a lot of YouTube music videos like that also ones with hymns.
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
I agree about acrylic yarn for charity knitting. I've do use it for that. I don't like to wear acrylic, because it makes me perspire.

Hello! Thank you for the kind words and for playing along! I so enjoyed reading your likes and dislikes, and see we share some of each. You are so talented, my friend. Except for the true crime and the berries! Happy Weekend!
ReplyDeleteI didn't grow up with raspberries and blackberries. Perhaps that's why I don't care for them. I don't like mulberries either, but my kids do.
