Reading... An Hour a Day Every Day

An hour a day...that's what it takes. An hour a day every day. From the time the children were very small, I read aloud to them. When they became readers themselves, I began requiring each of them to to read for half an hour. As soon as they were reading chapter books, that stretched to an hour a day. No need to keep on with reading lessons. They learn comprehension as they read. They narrate to me. It's clear by their narrations whether they understand what they are reading. They become more fluent as they read.
An hour a day... all of my children love to read.
I think it's working.

May I suggest?

So often my own words can sound like blah, blah, blah!! So it is nice to hear when someone appreciated a post.

  3. I have always loved reading to my children. We still do it...either my husband or I, although we've never been as faithful. But I loved library days when everyone came home with a huge pile of books and spread to different places to read.

Thanks for linking this very encouraging post.

  5. Reading is a great hobby/interest to cultivate amongst your children.

It is also an excellent means to improve their grammar and spelling.

  6. I love reading to my baby too! I have fond memories of my mother walking with me to the library each week as a child. I've always enjoyed reading and I just know it's due to early exposure. Thanks for joining Mom Musings with me this week!

God bless you! This life only works with Jesus. The next life is a continuation of this one—make sure you spend it with Jesus. Jesus is the only way to God the Father!
