Did you enjoy your Memorial Day weekend? We celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary. I guess you could say it was thrifty, because we had to cancel our weekend getaway. Our van started making a noise (just had to be this weekend), so we had it looked at Saturday morning. It was something big in the wheel. Nothing thrifty about that! We had to cancel the getaway. We couldn't get it fixed until Wednesday.
- I paid $10 extra for high mileage oil. Yes, it was more expensive, but we have over 200,000 miles on our van. It's our only vehicle, so it's worth a bit more to keep it running. I want it to go at least 300,000. I speak life to it in Jesus' Name! The Scriptures say that all things are held together in Jesus. That includes my van!
- I received three review movies in the mail. Thank you, Edify!
- I bought the Trim Healthy Mama book on Kindle. I already had it on my shelf, but it's over six hundred pages long. I thought the $15 to make it easy-to-read was a worthy investment in my health.
- I received a book, Married 'til Monday, by mistake from a review company. It's not my normal genre, so I contacted the company. They told me to keep it. I was happy not to pay postage to return it. They are going to send a copy of the correct book.
- I ordered a review book.
- A couple of friends brought food to share... eggs, bread, peanut butter, tuna, apples, oranges... lots of good things. Thank you Ellen and Laura.
- My friend gave me a salad spinner. I've been needing one!
- Check out the free homeschooling coupon download in my sidebar.
Well, that's about it. I hope you have a very enjoyable weekend. It's been rainy but beautiful here in Southwest Missouri. How are things in your neck of the woods? What thrifty things have you done this week?
God bless!
Laura

Great post. We had our van for 10 years and just over 300,000+ miles on it. We always used regular oil however we ALWAYS got our oil changed at the designated time. It was an amazing van which were sad to see it go. However it began to cost us more than it was worth. I hope your van goes well into the 300,000+ plus miles.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Scrappy. I need a first name for you. ~smile~
ReplyDeleteHappy 29TH Anniversary...
ReplyDeleteSo sorry the get a way had to be canceled.. What a bummer.. But proud it didn't get you out and stand you some where..[God does take care of us, doesn't He?]
And He does keep our cars and other things running for us.. Here is wishing for 300,000 miles for you..
Better safe than sorry, Judy.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated anniversary. Sorry about the van too.
ReplyDeleteAll's well now, thanks Michelle.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteSorry you had to cancel, but perhaps it kept you from problems later as you said. Hope it makes it to 300,000, none of ours ever did, but we have had many go along way. I think prayer does help. So many times things can be repaired and last longer. The Lord does provide!
Hope your weekend is wonderful!
Happy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your anniversary! It sounds like a great thrifty week, but what a shame you had to cancel your getaway. Are you able to reschedule for another weekend?
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week!
Maybe, Jayne. But car repairs took the budget this time. He'll have to save again!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your van!!! But it looks like your resourcefulness has blessed your family this week! Free movies and books! :) Happy anniversary :)
ReplyDeleteTwo out of three movies were good, too, Jes.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful thrifty week.
Laura
Happy anniversary!
ReplyDeleteWe use high-mileage oil, too. It has helped keep our cars running well for many, many miles.
We are moving next month, so we need moving boxes. Because we are thrifty, we don't want to buy boxes. We've picked up used boxes from stores and found people on craigslist who were giving away their used ones.
I like reading about your thrifty week. My husband and I have been married 44 years!! Pamela from WV
ReplyDeleteGood for you, Shannon. I found that the meat dept at Wal-Mart was a good place to get sturdy boxes. Liquor store boxes are strong, too, but I feel weird asking there.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Happy Anniversary Laura to you and your husband. I am sorry that you missed your weekend away but I am glad that you could fix your van. Thanks for sharing your thrifty week with us at Good Morning Mondays. Blessings
ReplyDeleteThank you Rosemary. You're kind. I started homeschooling in the mid-nineties. Things have changed!
ReplyDeleteLaura, you are definitely the Nifty Thrifty Queen! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
