I watched Meet John Doe tonight. It's an old Frank Capra movie starring Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwick. I watched it as a Christmas movie. What a surprise to find that it is so much more. Seventy years ago, people were feeling disconnected from others just as we are today. What began as a sensational story to save a job evolved into a movement. It was basically a Love Thy Neighbor movement. This is something that we are sorely in need of today in America and around the world. I highly recommend watching this movie. Then, go, love your neighbor as you love yourself.
If you love the band FOR KING & COUNTRY, you have to see their new film in theaters soon!
Synopsis: When David Smallbone's successful music company collapses, he moves his family from Australia to the United States in search of a brighter future. With nothing more than their six children, their suitcases, and their love of music, David (for KING & COUNTRY's Joel Smallbone) and his pregnant wife Helen (Daisy Betts) set out to rebuild their lives from the ground up. Based on a remarkable true story, a mum's faith stands against all odds; and inspires her husband and children to hold onto theirs.
MY THOUGHTS: I really didn't know what to expect with this movie. I can tell you what I did not expect. I did not expect to be so drawn into this true story drama in such a deeply engaging way. I did not watch this movie. I felt this movie from start to finish. The incidents and the emotion were raw and intense. Many of you may know that we went through some pretty intense hardships many years ago. This movie brought those deep feelings to the present. My husband had a similar experience.
The acting was so true to life that it was totally believable. Watching the father go through the problems he did, and watching him agonize over not being able to provide for his family, made me more aware of how my husband must have felt years ago when he went through a period of unemployment then underemployment. I also remembered how I felt as I tried to keep it all together and care for our four young children, our home, and my husband. I saw in the movie, and in my memories, what faith in God, prayer, a family pulling together, the love of Christ, and His people can do.
Parts of the story were hard to watch, but it was a story of great growth, repentance, and victory. This mum showed incredible faith, a boundless love and dedication to her family, and the strength to hold them all together and lead when her husband was in crisis.
This is the story of the Smallbone family. This is the story of an amazing woman of faith. This is the story of For King and Country. This is the story of Rebecca St. James. This is the story of an amazing family adventure.

I was a little unsure about the premise of this movie. It seemed a bit odd, but oh my! It turned out to be a fabulous story of love of family and friends, forgiveness, redemption, and it had a strong Christian message.
I cannot remember the last time I cried during a movie. Tonight, I cried at least three times. The acting was so realistic, I could forget it was a movie.
It's a great date night, chick flick, or family movie. Younger children won't understand it all. You can explain what you'd like them to get from it.
It was clean, no inappropriate scenes or language.
I highly recommend this movie. The scenery was stunning. The characters charming. The coffee shop was one you'd want in your own home town.
Please consider going to see this movie. We want to keep clean, excellent quality movies like this coming. It was Karen Kingsbury's first movie made by her own company, but it was completely professional in every way.
Bravo!

I am so happy that there are so many terrific movies coming out for viewers like us. I am looking forward to seeing Someone Like You.I watched the trailer, and it looks really good. My husband said, "Complicated." But he wants to see it. ~smile~
Guess what! It's rated PG! I know that most adult movies are PG 13 or R. If I watch a PG 13 movie, there is always something offensive in it in some respect. R? Not even in my vocabulary!

I think that the film does a nice job of relating the truths of faith and forgiveness into a modern day scenario. The acting was excellent. Every actor and actress was very believable. They are very talented.
I think that the writers did a good job of weaving the story of Jesus' last days into the modern storyline.
The scenery is beautiful in the modern day, and the sets and props were very well done in the Bible portion. The music was of mixed genres. Some of the selections were very well done. I did have a little trouble reconciling Bible days with modern music.
A lot of creative license is taken in the Bible scenes, but the film makers indicated that they were going to do this at the very beginning of the show. They also encouraged viewers to read the New Testament for themselves.
This is a good family film; however, depending on the ages of your children, you may want to give them some additional teaching to make sure that they understand.

All these words are swirling like snow in my mind as I think of ways to express my thoughts about this movie.
Ordinary Angels is the true story of a little girl fighting for her life, her dad working hard to make ends meet and pay hospital expenses, and a woman who finds herself compelled to do everything in her power to help the family.
This is an edge of your seat story without a foregone conclusion. You don't know what's going to happen next, nor do you know how it will end. Every scene just draws you into the next. The world just melts away as you're drawn into little Michelle's life struggle, Ed's struggle to help his family survive, and Sharon's struggle against addiction and to find meaning in life.
Swank and Ritchson were truly amazing in their roles. They took on the personalities flawlessly. It was so easy to just enter into the action of the movie and forget my knitting. Yes, I tried to knit. I always try to knit. ~smile~
I wholeheartedly recommend this faith based movie. It's a movie that will inspire you to think about what you can do in your own community. Every one of us can be an ordinary angel.
This movie opens Friday, February 23rd, in theaters. This one's worth going to the movies to see.

Has anyone ever told you that money doesn't grow on trees?

I just enjoyed a lovely old 1952 movie starring Irene done called it grows on trees. It opens with a 1950s housewife being asked by her many children and husband for different things that they need. Everything costs money, and they don't have enough. She scrubs and saves but it's never enough. While her husband is shaving, a $5 bill floats through the window. They take it as money from heaven. What follows is a humorous story of money that grows on trees and how this over-excited housewife handles it. It's free to watch on YouTube.
