I watched Meet John Doe tonight. It's an old Frank Capra movie starring Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwick. I watched it as a Christmas movie. What a surprise to find that it is so much more. Seventy years ago, people were feeling disconnected from others just as we are today. What began as a sensational story to save a job evolved into a movement. It was basically a Love Thy Neighbor movement. This is something that we are sorely in need of today in America and around the world. I highly recommend watching this movie. Then, go, love your neighbor as you love yourself.
Be blessed,

Wonderful tip - my husband and I are planning on watching it on Saturday night! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOh, I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did. I can't get my husband to watch old black and white movies unless it's an old Christmas classic that he's familiar with like White Christmas or Holiday Inn. Oh, and once in awhile, The Bishop's Wife.

I love this movie! I got it for Christmas or maybe my birthday several years ago. Anyway its a great movie. They just don't make good movies like that anymore.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right Regina. I love a good old movie sometimes. Things were so much more creative back then.

Thanks for the recommendation. We live in a rare neighborhood for these days. We all look out for each other and offer support where ever we can. The day Helene went through there were 19 trees down across the roads in our little subdivision. As soon as the wind stopped there were 9 chainsaws and three tractors out clearing the roads. We are blessed!
ReplyDeleteHubby just left for a doctors appointment so I think I will watch the movie while he is gone.
I hope you enjoyed the movie, Lana. You know, in 2011, we had a tornado go through and destroy a third of Joplin, Mo. We live a couple towns over, and we went over and spent the next few years helping with recovery. It was amazing to see people help each other. We had thousands of volunteers come through. I wish we could keep that John Doe spirit all year.
