Ma Tries Something New

"Hurry and get the work done, " said Ma. "And then, Laura, you go to the corn-patch and bring me a green pumpkin. I'm going to make a pie!"
"A pie! But how..." Mary said, and Laura said, "A green pumpkin pie? I never heard of such a thing, Ma."
"Neither did I," said Ma. "But we wouldn't do much if we didn't do things that nobody ever heard of before."

  1. Hello Laura,

Have you ever made Ma's green pumpkin pie? My sister-in-law gave a us The Little House Cookbook many years ago. When I was a teenager, my sister picked her Father-in-laws pumpkins, green - thinking that they were very overgrown zucchini. She thought that she was doing him a favor. It turns out that she had picked his prize pumpkins! Well, we decided not to let them go to waste and Made Ma's "apple" pie. It really did taste like apples!

On another note, I love your new header. Did you draw that yourself? It looks great.

    :) Hope

  4. I love Little House. I think I might need to re-read them all next year. It has been awhile. I just read Pioneer Girl which was good, but really hard to read with all the footnotes!

  5. Me neither, Sandi. I remember one fall we had an early frost and had to pick some green, but we decorated with them. I wish I'd remembered what Ma did.

  6. I've not tried the pie. I'd like to. I have that cookbook somewhere around here. I never used it like I thought I would. I always wanted to read the books aloud to the kids and make the recipes as I came to them. They're old enough now, I don't think they would enjoy it.

    I'm glad I wasn't your sister then!

My daughter, Amy, made my header. She drew it, too. She can do things I'm afraid to try, and she's just 14!

    Blessings,
    Laura
