A Thrifty Week at Harvest Lane Cottage #72

Welcome to another thrifty week at Harvest Lane Cottage. I am honored by your visit.  Each week I share my thrifty and frugal projects, ways of saving money, and my blessings from God.

I am so glad you dropped in for a visit today—or tonight!

♥♥♥
Hello again! It's so hard to believe that it's already the weekend again. I'm sure I just wrote about my thrifty week! Life just spins by so fast. Catch all the joy you can my friends. Love God and love others! That pretty much sums up the commandments and the law. My husband continues the search for a vehicle for me. You can read about last week's miraculous provision here. I've put a few things in my Etsy shop and my Ebay this week

I love it when y'all leave comments, so I can meet you and see your blogs, too.

Here's my thrifty week:

  • I baked a turkey on Sunday morning while we were at church. I found it in the deep freeze. I must have bought it on sale last Thanksgiving.
  • I chopped the turkey and mixed it into the gravy. I served this over leftover mashed potatoes Monday evening.
  • I had the leftovers from Monday's meal for lunch on Wednesday.
  • I stayed home nearly all the time!
  • I finished making my baby bibs. They will make great baby gifts!
  • I borrowed Amy's camera to take photos of items to list on Ebay and Etsy.
  • I sent food with my husband for lunches.
  • I ironed my husband's clothes rather than sending them to the cleaners. $3 a shirt and I don't know how much for pants saved.
  • I mended a bed sheet.
  • I mended two dresses.
  • I received squash from a friend from her garden.
  • We ate tomatoes from our garden.
  • My daughter carried a pbj to the 4 H fair to avoid paying for a fair food lunch.
  • I finished last year's school records and started looking for e-books and curriculum saved on our computer to see if I can use anything this year.
Well, that's my thrifty week.

  2. Enjoyed some yellow tomatoes, tiny cucumbers, I like little ones :), and bought some green beans from out street produce vendor. He set up his stall this week, he sells for less than the local markets, but does not carry huge amounts of stock. So he spreads it out to everyone who stops by, it keeps a lot of folks from going over the mountain to the garden farm there. He will be out until around the first of September or so.
I steamed the beans , but haven't tried that steam canner yet. I have been busy. I did test run it, it seems to work okay. I'm still leery of it. I think I will cook from it a few times before I ever try to can with it.
I got 6 or 7 men's shirts out of a bag my DIL wanted donated away. I did take several bags to donate to the thrift store. I like those men's shirts for the fabric to craft with, not sure what I'll do with this bunch yet though.
I pulled some odd and end things out of the freezer, and made spaghetti for a few meals. I got a watermelon at a good price.
I increased my drinking water intake, again. I have to remind myself on that one!
I pulled some of last years bean seeds to plant out of the freezer. They last fine that way, just sealed up on a section of a paper bag.
I picked up some cheaper items to start restocking my pantry, ammonia to clean with, pasta, a few rare protein bars I allow myself to buy, and vinegar.

    1. Wow! All in a week! You've been a super busy lady. Well done! I have to tell you, I just love your chatty comments. It makes me feel like we're neighbors chatting over the back fence. I remember my momma doing that with the neighbor lady. We knew our neighbors back then. I haven't lived anywhere in a long time where people were neighborly like that. Now we live in the country with no one nearby except a single man that comes and goes.

      Be blessed dear Annie!

  3. You did really well this week. :) A friend of mine mentioned that she irons for people in our community and she makes some pretty good money doing so.

I have to share with you that your bird songs on your site are messing with my cat big time. He is searching the room for those birds! LOL!

    1. Oh dear, Debbie. Should I remove the birds? I forget about them since my speaker isn't currently working. I have to get that fixed in the next week or two so that my kids can use the computer for math. There's audio with the lessons. I can change the birds if it's a problem. I don't want to annoy anyone.

Be blessed, and please let me know.

    6. Laura, please don't change the bird songs! I love them and for me they are very calming. I just thought my cat's reaction to them was funny. :)

    7. I shall leave them then Debbie. Well, I'll leave them until I cannot stand waiting for Christmas music anymore! ~smile~ My audio has been broken, and I forgot about them. Enjoy!
