A Thrifty Week at Harvest Lane Cottage #84

Welcome to another thrifty week at Harvest Lane Cottage. I am honored by your visit.  Each week I share my thrifty and frugal projects, ways of saving money, and my blessings from God.

I am so glad you dropped in for a visit today—or tonight!

♥♥♥
Hi ladies!
The truth is that I've been on the run all week. I've reconnected with friends, attended our town's Maple Leaf Festival, volunteered at the Republican Headquarters, attended election judge training (my first time), took my daughter to a dentist appointment an hour away, attended a debate watch party, grocery shopped, helped with a Third Thursday craft booth my girlfriends run, and took my kids to their home school co-op meeting. So. Guess who hasn't even had time to be thrifty this week? Yep. Me. So, I am rather embarrassed as I write this.
Life happens. Sometimes it's just really busy. I left the house this morning at 8:30 and got home about 8:30. I can only imagine how hard it must be for ladies who have jobs outside the home. Bless you ladies! So, please give me grace, and I'll try to do better next week. God bless you all! Thank you for reading about my efforts, leaving me such kind, encouraging comments, and telling me about what you've been doing. I love gleaning new ideas!

Here's my thrifty week:
  • My husband saved us major money by fixing his computer himself.
  • My husband re-caulked the bathroom tub enclosure himself. It looks so much better!
  • I altered a flashlight holster for my son.
  • I ate leftover refried beans for supper one night. I had frozen them last week.
  • Eggs $.49 a dozen!
  • Chicken soup from chicken that was given to us a few weeks ago that we froze.
Well, that's my not so thrifty week.

What are you doing in your home this week?

    1. Hi Judy,
Today we've been cleaning house, we've a funeral this afternoon, then church folks coming for a bonfire. I am not sure life is going to slow down much until January. Even then—who knows? Life's different with older teens.

      Blessings,
      Laura

  4. The festival looks like a lot of fun and it seems like the weather was cooperating, too! We were going to take a drive and go to the Apple Fest down in Bayfield, but our van was making a funny noise and my husband didn't want to drive that far "just in case." But we are getting quite a few apples from our own trees, so my daughter and I are putting together pies and freezing them as well as sharing with friends and neighbors.
The 49c eggs are definitely a buy! You can break them and scramble them up and put them in a ziplock bag, add just a hefty pinch of salt. Use the small bags and put two, three or four depending on your most used recipes, and a large bag with a dozen to whip up for breakfast for the family.

  6. Sent leftovers with Dh for work all week.
I ate some of the leftovers for a meal several times myself.

Cooked at home every day this week but one (subs).
Found great deals on meats for our new freezer.
Accepted some frozen peas and beans from my sister for the freezer as well.

    Stayed out of Walmart!! lol

  8. Sounds like a really fun-filled week. I've always wanted to have my own craft booth. That is an awesome price for the eggs. This week we're saving money by having tacos using leftover food my dad gave us when we had dinner at my parents' house.

  9. 49 cent eggs! I wonder if there's a way to preserve eggs for when you find a bargain like that. Not that I'll ever see those prices around here!

  10. You definitely have had a very busy week, and that is just the way life is! You win some, you lose some, but you just gotta keep on going.. although I would say your thriftiness in the past has paid off now, as you were able to eat meals out of your freezer :) Hugs to you dear Laura!

    1. Hey Spicing Up, it's so good to hear from you!
You're right. We just keep going. There's not a night this week we will all be home. I know some folks begin this lifestyle when their kids are in grade school with sports and classes. I am thankful it didn't hit us until last year. I am trying to go with it, but momma wants the old days of everyone around the table 2-3 times a day. ~smile~ Hopefully, the kids will want that for their families someday.
      Be blessed!

  12. Beautiful pictures! I'd love to work at the polls some day. I've always been fascinated by politics and elections. Right now I've got too many little ones to have time for it, but one day!

    Great deal on the eggs!
