A Thrifty Week at Harvest Lane Cottage #92

Hello! So glad you dropped in for a visit. Each week I share my thrifty and frugal projects, ways I save money, and my blessings from Jesus.

I am so glad you dropped in for a visit today—or tonight!

♥♥♥
Hello! May God give you peace and tranquility in your heart whether your candidate won or lost. Please pray for our new president and our leaders on all levels. May God bless America, and may we turn to Him with our whole hearts. I am hoping to enjoy filling my bucket this weekend!

Here's my thrifty week:

  • My Emily was able to find the notebooks and folders she needed for her classes this week in my school supplies stash that was bought on sale or given to us months ago.

  • I found a ball of red yarn in a container of cast-offs treasures that a lady at church gave me a few months ago. I used it to make my new red dishcloths for February. I just did a simple garter stitch casting on 18 stitches. The needles were big—size 13—so it went quite quickly. I just stitched until they were approximately square. I wasn't worried about how they looked, I just wanted red for February! As I got near the end of the yarn, I found a wooden thread spool inside. It's got to be really old. The price says $.29!
  • Lots of eating out of the freezer.
  • Keeping warm with lots of hot tea. This is my favorite teapot that I bought on Ebay.
  • I ordered a Gamestop gift card for my grown son's birthday with my Swagbucks. I got it at a discount, too, since it's the first $25 gift card I've ordered this month. You can earn Swagbucks by answering daily polls, using it for searches, answer surveys, watch videos, and shop on-line. My girls enjoyed the $25 gift cards for Christmas.

Well, that's my thrifty week.

  1. What a neat find...a wooden spool. I use to collect them in a jar. I am not sure why. I just liked them. I had the jar in my laundry room in my old home to decorate.

This week I just practice saying NO a lot to things when it came to purchases and etc. Especially on my grocery shopping day. I am practicing only buying things that we really need. Granted I did buy some puzzles at the Dollar Store. *Smiles*
    Have a good weekend.

    1. There are always exceptions Mrs. Chrissy!
Saying no to myself always helps. I got rid of a bunch of boxes and a bag of cloths from my back room today. That counts, right? I guess that can go on next week's list.
      Enjoy!

    1. Hi Spicing Up! Hope your week went well. You should stitch up a few cloths, too. They can be as easy or hard as you'd like.
      Hugs to you, too!

    1. Unfortunately, Ginger Dawn, I tend to save too many "treasures". It does feel good when I need one and know exactly where it is though!
      Enjoy,

I love the knitted dish cloths. I made some a few years ago and love them! You've inspired me to make some for Valentine's Day gifts! Great idea for clients. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your weekend. Come over and link up.
The link will change on Sunday. If you didn't notice I've already added Valentine's if you want to link some archived posts!

  6. Congrats on a great week! Looks like you got some really good stuff done.

My cleaning is improving, I have implemented several of your suggestions, the routine things I am working on harder. I took your suggestions, mixed with some things by The FlyLadies, it is becoming easier.
Had some drop in visitors that weren't expected this afternoon, I wasn't wishing for a hole to swallow me & my living room (which is a 1rst!)
I'm getting there, and again, I thank you for the encouragement & your prayers, it's working!!!!!
I pray you & your family have a blessed week

  7. I read this post several hours ago, and I have not thought of one thrifty thing I did all week. I finally remembered I did go to the library and print off a free $5.00 coupon, I have not used it yet. I actually have another one to go with that when I do.
I also printed off a couple of primitive patterns for ten cents each page, much cheaper than buying patterns. Cheris friendship page on fb, , she is very generous with her patterns. She has one I want to buy in the future, my way of giving back, smile.
Oh, Igot a free sample of trivia in the mail.

And I got that beautiful hair clip in the mail, you had for a giveaway recently, it really is so nice!

I got a free book I won in the mail, an internet drawing.

I used a $2.00 off juice grocery coupon, on my grocery card that my DIL wanted, and since I got the smaller size, not the big bottle she thought I would get, it cost $1.78, and the register spit out another one for $2.00 off the next one. I gave that to her to use.

I think what threw me off, and I could not recall, was the fact that I spent too much on some things, but did not go to the thrift shop, or grocery much. But it felt like money poured out of my hands for the last two weeks, car repairs, and needs sure bit our budget this month, and last.

    1. Oh Annie, sometimes money pours out of my hands even during a thrifty week. You did a lot. Did you like your hair clip? I just won one from someone else! Can't wait to see it. You have been thrifty. It's a state of mind my dear.
      Hugs,

  8. Hi Laura! Love your posts about thrifty living. This week I saved money by coming home for lunch instead of going out, repurposing an old skirt for a new scarf for a side table (found at goodwill for $3.99 and 25% off on senior day), and helped a friend by giving her some items I had purged from my closet. I feel so proud of myself! Tiger is so cute and the teapot is very special!

  9. I have a lot of wooden spools that belonged to my grandmother. And some of her buttons that were a dime a card! Love the shade of red! Good thrifty week dear friend.

    1. Hello Friend Michelle,
I remember thread on wooden spools when my mama sewed when I was a child. Who knew they would become a thing of the past? And to think we used to think things were "cool" when they were plastic. I yearn for the old days sometimes.
      Blessings,
      Laura

    1. He's big and lazy these days. He sneaks inside every chance he gets! I love how he's one of those butter in your hands sweet cats. We raised him from birth since we owned his mama, too.

  11. I just want to reach through the computer screen and hug Tiger! He is exactly what I was looking for when we lost our Daisy and were looking to find a new kitty at the Humane Society to bring home to their new forever home. Unfortunately the one big loveable orange and white cat they had still "sprayed" and I could not have a spraying cat in my house. We did find our Doofy cat that day. He came home as Rufus, but due to his nature, we now have renamed him Doofy. ;) We love him dearly and now realize he was the cat that we needed all along.

    1. God knows best. Tiger doesn't spray. I think it's because we had him neutered when he was young. Glad you had a good experience.
      Be blessed,

    1. I used up all of the yarn, so I used the spool again to roll up the next ball. It made starting the ball so very easy. I think I'll use future spools for the same purpose.
