Happy Homemaker Monday ~ July 24, 2017

As I write ... Sunday Evening

The weather....  Hot and sunny 94°

Right now I am... so happy that today is the half way point for my chemotherapy plan. Nine more weeks to go! It is a long journey to health. Chemotherapy is the first road of that journey. I thank God for making it possible to take this journey by providing insurance and money to get healthcare, and I thank God for the healing that is already manifesting in my body by the power of the blood of Jesus and in Jesus' name.

Thinking... I look forward to the beauty and coziness of Fall this year. Good soups and stews will be bubbling on the stove. Homemade bread and biscuits always taste yummy on the side with real butter, too. Autumn is absolutely the most wonderful time of the year! Hot tea, homemade cocoa, and a good book. Yes!

Something fun to share...

On the menu for this week.... To be determined

On my to do list...
  • Chemo Tuesday
  • Recovery
  • Work on school plans for school for coming year

In the workbasket...
  • I still need to sew flowers on the hats I knit and weave in yarn ends. I will have new hats to take to the chemo center for other patients tomorrow. They are both made with a denim blue/purple variegated yarn. One skein made a hat for me and two extras. Do you knit or crochet or sew? You might like to make hats for your local center. I finished this project this morning. I have two hats I made, at least one other hat, and a scarf or two to donate. I'll probably take a book or two to add to their bookshelf as well.

Looking forward to this week... Spending time with my friend Rebecca.

Looking around the house... I am so thankful for the extra fans we bought. They are helping keep things comfortable.

From the camera...

On my prayer list...

Bishop Lloyd Naten will be having open heart surgery tonight or Tuesday morning after a heart attack. His kidneys are also failing.

Peace of Jerusalem and Israel
Wisdom, health, and protection for President Trump, Vice-President Pence, and their families.

Healing for our country so that we may be ONE nation under God.
Cancer will die the death in my body. My heart, brain, organs, and healthy cells will be protected. I will live and not die and declare the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Psalm 118:17
My prayer for you, my reader...

Father God, I ask that you bring life, peace, hope, and joy to everyone who reads this blog. I pray that you will meet every need. I pray that they will feel your love. I pray that they will trust you for salvation through Jesus Christ. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen.

    Thanks for dropping by!
    Please say hello.

    2. Good morning, my friend! I'm looking forward to spending the day with you again tomorrow! I love this morning's post and, like you, I too am anxiously looking forward to fall. I'm already thinking about soups and stews and beans and cornbread! Yummy! I didn't see your link at Sandra's. Last week I had my post up early, then forgot to post it until Tuesday! LOL! That's the way it goes, I guess! Thanks for sharing the link to my dollar-stretching post. The month is nearly over and we're winding down. I'm getting geared up to start THM August 1st. Pray for me to have wisdom and direction in doing so. Love you! See you tomorrow! <3

      1. You know, Out My Window, it is hard going through the treatments. But I feel the hand of the LORD on me. It is so comforting to know that I cannot lose. Even if the worst happens, it will be Heaven for me. God bless you. I know you understand that. It's all a figure of speech. Hugs to you! Laura

P.S. If you send me your email, I will be able to respond directly.

    5. I'm with you in looking forward to fall, I love different soup, stews and chowders. I make a couple of different cornbreads to go with them. I want t learn how to make breads too. I don't want to use pre made mixes though. I want to get a bead maker if necessary because hand are getting tender with age. Any suggestion along that line? I figure if anyone would know it would be you. 8-)

      1. Oh, I would love it if you'd share a chowder recipe. Oh just any of your soup or stew recipes would be great. I want to try some new things this fall.

I haven't had a bread machine for years. When I did, it was a cheapo one. You might check Consumer Reports, or just choose a middle of the road brand. Sorry I cannot be of help.

I will tell you one thing. When I had the bread machine, I would set it so that it would mix, knead, and rise in the machine. Then I would remove the dough, punch it down, and let it rise in a bread pan. When it doubled, I would bake it in the oven. The texture and shape was much nicer. That might not be necessary with a nicer machine.

I'll drop by in just a bit to say hello.
        God bless!

    7. I ADORE your quote this week - OH SO TRUE! I'm right there with you praying for an early fall and looking forward to the recipes that come with it.

Keeping you in my prayers for the chemo to work killing all those cancer cells and heal you. Miracles happen every day in the cancer world, may you be one of them! I am a walking testament to that - your faith will walk you though this path to healing.

I believe I am one of those miracles. Just waiting for the process to finish and be declared cancer free! God has already declared me healed. I found it in the Word!

    8. I love the idea of donating hats! I know that my mom didn't like wearing a wig and was more comfortable with a hat. Half way.... yes! I know it isn't an easy road. I'm trying not to think about fall yet. I want to cherish summer, but after our hot weekend it is hard to stay in the moment! Whew, it was hot!! Take care and know that I continue to lift you in prayer.

      1. Each wig I've tried on has been uncomfortable and looked like a shaggy dog on my head! I may try again. It's going to be a very long time until my hair looks like a lady's.

    9. What a great thing to do, making and donating the hats. As I am looking at your wonderful photo of the Carthage courthouse, I'm wondering are you also in Missouri? I guess I never realized that. Normally, I'm all about summer but for some reason this year I'm even looking forward to the fall. Hope you have a fantastic week!

      1. Yes, Jean. I live just south of Carthage not too far from Joplin.
        Where do you live?

I cannot enjoy most of the regular summer fun things this year, so I'm already done with summer. Well, except I need to get my homeschool plans finished and order books.

I believe this will be a good week. Enjoy every moment you can Jean. Life is way too short.

        Hugs,

    10. Laura, You are my inspiration. Your faith and love of God is Amazing. It just touches my heart how you can be facing such a terrible time in your life yet still spread the love and wonderfulness of having God in your life with everyone you come in contact with. Whether fellow cancer patients or followers on your blog. The lives you touch and the hearts you open to the Love of Jesus ...you are a true Warrior for God. A gentle hug to you dear lady. I can't knit or crochet, but at times find great deals on yarn at thrift stores...if there is a certain weight or kind you prefer, I would be happy to send some your way next time I find some..If you'd be up to doing the knitting on your end. Praying for your family, Karla

      1. You are so kind to me Karla. I'm just a regular mom blogger who wants God to get glory even in the hard times. I depend on Jesus 'cause there is no one else and nowhere else that can do what he can do. He is everything we need.

You touch my heart so much. You make me brave with your encouragement.

Honestly, I don't think that yarn from a thrift store is a good idea for cancer patients. The chemo knocks the immune system down for a lot of patients. Who knows about where or what the yarn has been exposed to prior to sale. So, I am going to decline. I hope you understand. You've a very kind heart.

I hope your week is great.

      2. Oh my goodness, I didn't even think about that!!! THANK YOU for letting me know..I have not had any "close up and personal" experience with cancer or anyone going through it. I will ask the Lord for another option to help. Gonna have a wonderful week, will spend more time with Prayer and Devotions. How can one NOT have a good week when that's on the top of my Agenda? ;) God Bless you Laura.

      1. You are so good to me Debbie! Thank you so much.

The first time I watched, I saw a mama and her cub. The cub was just messing with the mom, batting at her and pestering her, just like a kid would! She would just turn away or push at him. He just came back over and over. It was funny.

        Be blessed!

      1. Oh Judy thank you for your kindness. I went to lunch today with my friend before hand. She told the lady at the counter that we were celebrating. They brought us a big slice of cheesecake and strawberry sauce to take with us for an afternoon snack as a gift!

I learned to knit with a little help from a friend. I learned to knit this hat by using a Knit Picks video. Knit Picks is a yarn company that has lots of free videos that teach how to knit, pearl, and how to make a number of items. I also used their videos to learn to knit basic socks and mittens.

The pin above goes directly to the how to knit hat video. Here's the link to a list of knitting basics. I use the English knit and pearl stitches. That means I hold the wrapping yarn in my right hand. Lots of ladies prefer the Continental knitting, holding the yarn in the left hand. It requires smaller and fewer hand movements. I have heard it's faster. I can do it, but not very well. You could try both and decide which you prefer.

        The Basics
        http://tutorials.knitpicks.com/category/the-basics/

My first project was a simple knit dishcloth. A scarf is too big a project to start with in my opinion. I like to see a finished project!

I soon moved on to making the pictured hat. It's all knit stitch.

Give it a try. There are tons of tutorials on YouTube if you get stuck. Just search for whatever stitch or help you need.

        God bless you my friend!
