As I write ... very early Monday morning
The weather.... Hot! High nineties. Who told the weatherman it's August? Chance of showers this afternoon, but not until after 2 p.m. I hope that will give us a chance to see the partial eclipse just after 1 p.m.
Right now I am... up early. I just put coffee on for my husband, water on for tea for me, and eggs in to boil.
Thinking... I cannot believe this will be my 27th year at home raising and teaching my children. I taught from the birth of my eldest son who was 26 in January. How did that happen?

On my reading pile... I just finished my Summer Reading List with the exception of Bible Faith by Kenneth Hagin. I'm taking my time and studying as I go. There's a whole lot of writing in this book! Some of you have expressed wonder about my attitude and faith as I go through this cancer recovery. This book has helped me see the truth of having a strong, complete faith in God and His love and goodness to me. I'll start compiling my Fall reading list, soon.♥♥♥♥♥

Something fun to share...
Thank you to the precious reader who sent me this just because! I don't know who you are, but I was super-blessed when I opened the box. My only clue was the name Elizabeth on the invoice with my address listed. You are sneaky my dear! It's just as cute as the picture. Now I need to get another project on the needles so that I can use it!
On the menu for this week.... Sorry, I haven't done this yet!
- Monday... Chicken and veggie stir fry
- Tuesday... Probably lentil soup
- Wednesday... Church Supper
- Thursday... To be announced
- Friday... Dinner out with hubby maybe
- Biscuits and Gravy at Braums to celebrate the first day of school. We've done it for years!
- Doctor appointment to check my blood counts.
- Work on school planning.
- Order school books.
In the workbasket...
- I'm embarrassed that this is still on my list! I really should hem my husband's jeans. They've been waiting awhile. I'm always afraid to make the cut!
- You can see a tribble on my needles in the picture above. I just started it for my other mama Annie.
Looking forward to this week...
- Feeling better! The farther I get from chemo, the better I feel. I'm on a three week cycle. It didn't seem to knock me down as badly this time. Thank you God! I wrote the name of Jesus right on the Perjeta bag before they hung it on the IV pole this time.
- UPDATE: I've been having some pretty bad side effects since Monday afternoon. Prayer appreciated.
Looking around the house... Streamers leftover from my daughter Amy's 16th birthday party. Laundry partially folded on the table. Gotta get to that after breakfast.
On my prayer list...
- Peace of Jerusalem and Israel
- Wisdom, health, and protection for President Trump, Vice-President Pence, and their families.
- Healing for our country so that we may be ONE nation under God.
- Cancer will die the death in my body. My heart, brain, organs, spleen, and healthy cells will be protected. I will live and not die and declare the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Psalm 118:17

I ask you Lord to keep people safe during this eclipse. I ask you to help each to focus on you, the maker of heavens and earth, moon and sun, stars and infinite space. May they seek your face dear Lord.
I ask you to bring healing to the many who read this blog who are needing a miracle. I ask it all in the name of Jesus and by the power of the blood of Jesus. Amen.

Hi Laura, so happy to hear you are feeling better. I have been praying for you! It is so HOT, I am staying in and cleaning closets, etc., a good excuse to stay inside in the ac. I built my eclipse viewing box this morning, hope we get to see it!

I hope that you were able to enjoy a few moments of the beautiful eclipse as I was. Those two minutes or so of partial darkness brought a peace to me.

Megan and I went out to view the eclipse. It was about 90% in Central Indiana. A really neat experience! It was another one of those things that made me realize what a great decision we made to homeschool! I read the blog post you mentioned last week. I loved it! I needed to read it as I struggle with being enough. There is suppose to be a cool down heading our way later this week. I hope you get it also. I'm happy to hear you are still tolerating your treatment. Take care, my friend!

Hello my dear friend! We got to sit here and watch the eclipse. It was about a 91% one and it was awesome! God is so amazing! Lovely surprise you got there dear. Enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteWe saw about 94%. You're right, it was truly awesome. We had glasses, and just glanced at it once in awhile as it happened, but it was an event to remember. My husband was working from home today, so he saw it with me and my two younger kids. I called the olders, whom I'd given glasses, so they could see it too.

I am so glad you are feeling stronger and that the treatments are not knocking you down as hard anymore. Time goes so quickly doesn't it when we are raising our families and homeschooling our kids. It always amazes me that our kids, whom were homeschooled, are now homeschooling their kids. :) Be blessed my friend!
ReplyDeleteI started stronger, but it seems I'm getting knocked down now a few days later. Prayer appreciated. I find these transition years with one out of the house, one in junior college and living part-time at home, one a 12th grader and working in an adult job 28 hours a week, and one a 10th grader at home are more difficult than I imagined they would be...but I know they'll all be gone before I know it.

DeleteWhat a lovely, faith filled post. You post such interesting things. I also have been hemming pants and I hate to make that cut. They are school uniform pants for my 10 year old grandson. He has 6 pairs that are too long and I am doing one at a time to make sure I don't ruin them! They only cost $10.00 a pair, so it won't be too great a loss if I get them too short, I guess! LOL. I love to quilt and sew crafty items, but altering clothes is not my thing!

I am so sorry to hear about the side effects. I prayed that you will be delivered from pain and discomfort and nausea so that you can continue to shine a light in this world. I didn't see the eclipse--was working--but it was surely a reminder of all that goes on in this universe that is miraculous and wonderous and reflective of God's delight in beauty. Thanks to everyone who prayed for our family to be delivered from poverty. My husband, after six years of being unable to find work (you'd be surprised at how many people don't want to hire a man in his 50's), finally got hired! He is a Junior High School U.S. History teacher! After four undergraduate degrees, two Master's Degrees, and a law degree, the Lord saw fit to have him work with children. I would have guessed that was where he should be, as children flock to him like the Pied Piper :) He will do his best to teach our amazing history, our contributions as a nation and a people, and to have respect for what (and who) has gone before us. Amen!

This is so very wonderful! My husband was unemployed four months last year with no income. A few years ago he was out of work for 9 or 10 months. We had unemployment that time. It's really tough.

ReplyDeleteBACON WRAPPED JALAPENO CHICKEN BITES adapted from Trisha Yearwood
Chicken spread with cream cheese stuffed into jalapenos, rolled and wrapped with bacon and then grilled. YUMMY!
8 chicken tenders, diced small
3-ounce package cream cheese, softened
8 LARGE jalapeno peppers, halved and seeded
8 slices bacon, cut in half
Stir chicken pieces into softened cream cheese.
Dab ½ teaspoon (more or less) of cream cheese on top of each chicken tender.
Wrap each roll with one piece of bacon and secure with a toothpick.
Grill until bacon is brown and crispy on both sides.
NOTE: Be sure to wear plastic gloves when handling fresh jalapenos. The oil will attach itself to your hands and is not easily washed away. Even an inadvertent swipe of the hand close to your eyes could be a VERY unforgettable experience.

Praying for you Laura that the Lord strength will carry you through it all. We watched the eclipse and in our area it was 98% it was really amazing. Hugs to you, remember cancer is not worrying our GOD,He holds the cure for it.

It has been hot here in Texas, but we haven't been in the three digits as much as usual, so I'm thankful for that at least. :-) We're expecting the results of Hurricane Harvey right now. We'll see how it goes.

I know some people can't understand why I'm content with that, but it is the life to which I'm called at present, and I thank the Lord for it because I need the quiet. :-)

I know all the "right" things, but I cannot seem to think all the "right" things. I know God will get me through this. It's just so hard. I think I need to do a little worship. ~smile~
