I Can't Believe It Happened in My Hometown

!!!!!

No dramatic photos. Just complete amazement. I went to Dollar General tonight, in what I've thought of as my sensible hometown, and the toilet paper shelves were bare. Completely bare. I thought it was only happening in cities. Fortunately, I still have a few rolls left. Tomorrow, I'll be looking through my fabric and old t-shirts for fabric to make wipes. I've known about family cloth for years, but I've never done it.

I hope this is not a portent of things to come. I don't watch the news much, but every time I do, someone's panicking or causing panic about the Corona virus. I do wish that people would take this seriously but not panic. I'm not nearly as worried about the virus as I am about the hysteria that's surrounding it. Call me naive, but even as a cancer survivor, I will just practice good hygiene and wash my hands, wash my hands, wash my hands. I will also be careful around others who show symptoms of illness just like I would with other illnesses.

So, tomorrow I will make cloth wipes for tinkling and pray for our country and our world.

Bless you all, keep calm and pray.

 Laura

  1. Yes, we went to Dollar General last night and the shelves were rather bare. Not just toilet paper, but paper plates, pain meds, and toothpaste. I have photos of the empty shelves and it is crazy!

    1. I don't know what I can do but keep calm and do the best I can with what I have. I don't have a full pantry. I do have skills to make do and be thrifty. I'll just keep on keeping on!

  2. I sure do agree with you. This is just crazy. Hoarding is horrible and people are acting crazy. I too am more worried about the crazy people than the virus.
    Stay safe and blessings.

    1. Just think Cheryl. How would we feel if we didn't have God to trust in? No wonder they are going crazy. Be blessed!

    3. Dear Tajuana, It's nice to hear from you. It's nice to be agreeable, too. ~giggle~ I went out this morning to Aldi and Dollar General to get just a few things. It was nice to come home to my own cozy home. Be blessed!Laura

  3. QUERIDA HERMANA: ESTOY DE ACUERDO CONTIGO, LA GENTE ESTA ACTUANDO DE MANERAS DESCONTROLADAS, COMO SI FUERA EL APOCALIPSIS O EL FIN DEL MUNDO. AQUI EN MI PAIS, NO SOLAMENTE TENEMOS EL CORONAVIRUS, SINO TAMBIEN UNA ENFERMEDAD LLAMADA DENGUE ¿HAS OIDO HABLAR DE ELLA? ES TRANSFERIDA POR UN MOSQUITO Y LOS SINTOMAS SON MUY PELIGROSOS, ASI QUE NOSOTROS ESTAMOS TRANQUILOS, NO NOS DESESPERAMOS, AQUI HAY 1 MUERTO Y 31 PERSONAS INFESTADAS, TODAVIA NO HAY PARANOIA PERO NO SE HASTA CUANDO. HE LEIDO SOBRE TU PAIS SOBRE EL FALTANTE DE ALGUNOS ELEMENTOS BASICOS PARA EL HOGAR, ¿NO ES ESTO DEMASIADO? CREO QUE EL MUNDO ESTA LOCO, ENTRE TANTA VIOLENCIA, TANTAS PESTES, ENFERMEDADES, GUERRAS, HAMBRUNAS, ¿QUE MAS PUEDE HACER ESTE VIRUS? COMO HIJA DE DIOS, JUNTO A MI FAMILIA ORAMOS POR LA PROTECCION DIVINA Y DEJAR TODAS NUESTRAS ANGUSTIAS EN EL SEÑOR. COMPARTO CONTIGO EL SALMO 91. QUE DIOS TE BENDIGA RICAMENTE A TI Y A LOS TUYOS.

    2. We went to Sam's Club yesterday hoping to find Acetaminophen. My husband I both take that on a daily basis and have for years so we weren't in a panic, but wanted to make sure we had a couple of extra bottles. Our local stores were empty. I was absolutely blown away. It was 3:30 pm on a Thursday. I have never, ever seen so many shoppers. We had trouble even finding a parking place. It was worse than Christmas. Many, many things were gone or almost gone. My son-in-law is the manager of a smaller Aldi. On a Thursday, the store averages about $4000 in sales. It's not a busy day. Yesterday, the store did $30,000 in business. Even if I'm not panicked, others are. I know our local food pantry is very low. I would like to know who will help those who don't have resources to buy whenever they want if everyone takes more than they need. Fortunately, I have always bought on sale so have a deep pantry, but I know others don't. I plan to help our neighbors and have been taking food to a few in our church who have hit on hard times. We all need to pull together and do everything we can. PJ in Kansas

    3. Wow! I don't have deep pantries anymore. We ate things up in preparation for our move last summer, and I have not been able to build the pantry up again. A couple of weeks ago, I did buy a 16 pack of tp. I've never done that before. I don't even know why I did since I usually buy 4 packs. Perhaps Holy Spirit gave me the idea. I had no idea that there were going to be shortages so soon when there have been so few cases in America.
      Be blessed,
      Laura

  4. Our oldest daughter's family are missionaries in Europe. She is begging us to stay home. She said we are where they were a few weeks ago and if we don't take this more seriously we are headed for where they are.

  5. Laura, I feel the same way. We stopped by Walmart for a few thing we needed, toilet paper being one, and was shocked to find so many empty shelves. It looked like a war zone, things rolled and tumbled, lots of bare shelves and not one roll of toilet paper in the place. I can't believe people have been hoarding these things until there is none left for those who need a little. We are trying to stay home...and wash our hands often. Of course, I've always done that. :)

  6. Well our major employer in this town is a toilet paper maker so I will not worry about that.

    1. My son was doing their regular shop this week and a woman rammed her stroller in front of him and swept all the hand wash into her basket. He also saw a woman packing 2 trolley loads of loo rolls into her car. I also feel the panic and anxiety are doing as much damage as the virus.

  8. All our hope is in Jesus. He will still continue to take care of His own and supply our needs according to HIS riches in glory, not according to the ebb and flow of this world's hysteria. "There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. A thousand shall fall at thy side and ten thousand at thy right hand, but it shall not come nigh thee." Claim the promises of God. Use wisdom, as you already do in every day life. Speak His Word over your family and yourself. Keep your eyes on Him, not on the fear-mongering media, and use good common sense. God is still God, and He has not lost control even though the world around us is reeling. These things are all signs of the times, and He will soon come and take us all away out of this chaotic world! What a day of rejoicing that will be!

    1. Dear Billie Jo,You are right about it seeming like a movie. It's hard to believe. We went for a drive this afternoon, and things looked like they always do. It's hard to believe the turmoil in our world right now. Hugs,Laura

  10. Laura, it is crazy. But I've learned life goes on. No matter what, life goes on. This too shall pass.

  11. Here, people bought TP so they wouldn't have to go out and about when the virus is more widespread...not hoarding per se. In Louisiana.

  12. Hi Laura. Same situation here where I live. I have some TP put away, but wish I had more. Crazy times we live in. Prayers that this whole Corona Virus thing will run its course and be over quickly. Prayers for your family.
