Thrifty Things Lately at Harvest Lane Cottage #152

Hello ladies, please read my note at the bottom of this post.

I'm so glad you came by to visit me. I like to share my thrifty and frugal projects, ways of saving money, frugal cooking, and my blessings from God. Keeping a record of the ways that God provides and the ways that I am resourceful truly builds my faith. I encourage you to keep a record, too.

Hello everyone,
It's so good to be back again today to talk with you. I know many are still staying at home nearly all the time. Our governor in Missouri placed a stay home order on our state. I am still away from home a lot since chiropractic is considered essential, so I still work 18 hours a week. I'm very careful and disinfect often. Are you sheltering at home? If so, what have you been up to?

~ Staying home saves money!
~ We were given two big bags of farm fresh zucchini. Thank you Charles! We've already enjoyed 2 loaves of chocolate zucchini bread. It also has made its way into two delicious pots of soup.
~ I shredded and froze the rest of the zucchini for future use.
~ We changed banks to save on our business account.
~ We bartered for some services we needed.
~ A friend brought us meat, bread, and some other things. Thank you Mary!
~ We've used homemade wipes to conserve tp.
~ I made a large batch of chili with just one pound of ground beef. It made 2 meals.
~ My daughter has been planting more seeds.
~ A friend brought us a big can of peaches. Thanks Rachel!
~ I made four face masks with room for filters for my brother Brent using this pattern. They have a loop for the neck, and they tie at the top back of the head. I paid $2 for the clothesline cord. It will make several more masks. I had the material and thread on hand. I've had the material for at least 22 years!
~ I made four masks for my brother John and his wife from the same pattern except without filter openings.
~ A friend dropped off groceries and a gift card. Thanks Heather!
~ More tinkle wipes made. I think that's all I will need.

Do not give in to fear about circumstances. God has not given us a spirt of fear but power and of love and a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Philipians 4:13

This is the time to get in God's word and pray.

You may give share prayer requests with me in the comments or by email.

God is so good.
Praise God!

Keep calm and pray on,
Laura
Blessed to be a blessing

  4. Thank you for continuing to work. I hope your immune system is not compromised by your fight with cancer in the past.

    1. I appreciate your appreciation Diana. I am being very careful. The office has not been very busy. I've already informed the doctor that if my husband believes me to be in danger, I will be sheltering at home. So far, in our community, we feel the risk is low. We are in a small town in southern Missouri. P.S. I saw my oncologist right before this all went crazy, and my blood test results showed that my immune system is working well right now.
      Hugs to you, be safe.Laura

  5. Hi Laura,

I too have been making masks for everyone in my family. Where I live it is now the law to wear a mask whenever we leave our homes.

The zucchini sounds wonderful! Yesterday I baked my last loaf of chocolate zucchini bread that I had stored in the freezer last fall. I am looking forward to summer! : )

May you have a blessed day!

    1. Hi Sarah, I did read recently that it is now law in 7 states. I made my first trip to Walmart in almost two months yesterday. I wore one of the surgical masks from work and some plastic gloves that I bought several months ago for working with jalapenos. About half the shoppers were wearing masks. I was the only one I saw wearing gloves. I bought my husband's medicine, a few things we needed and got out quickly. I hope not to go back for awhile. I hope you have a lovely week ending.Laura

  7. It feels so good to enjoy being frugal in times like these isn't it Laura! We have learned through the hard times to be thankful for what we have, and to make up, use, and reuse all that we have. I'm thankful to hear you and your family are doing well, and pray that the Lord continues to protect and keep you and your family safe!

  8. What a beautiful website and post you have here, Laura. Will you please pray for the Richardson family? My 25 year old nephew Joseph was found dead on Tuesday morning and we need prayers for peace and comfort as we struggle to accept this. Thank you.

    1. Dear Belinda,  Of course I will pray. One cannot know the way to pray in a situation like this. I cannot imagine your family's pain.
Father God, I ask that you will comfort and provide and bring healing to the Richardson family as only you can. I pray that you will help them through everything in the next few weeks. Then I pray that you will make your presence and your love known to each family member through the coming weeks, months, and years as they miss their loved one and feel the loneliness for him. Father I pray for peace to flow over this family in a way that it has never flowed over them before. I pray for a salvation anointing to come upon each Christian in this family that every member will be saved, and they will be a magnet to Jesus. I also pray Lord that they will forgive any and all that need forgiveness so that no bitterness can take root. Thank you Jesus.Amen.
Sending you a big hug Belinda. Sincerely, Laura
