It's Coming Soon! Summer is Slipping Away

© Amy Lane Photography

Hello everyone!

September is just whizzing by isn't it?  We've just finished birthday season in our house. Two of our children have birthdays at the end of August, and one was born yesterday. Tee hee! Now my thoughts turn to fall. It's my favorite season of the year. I love all the colors, activities, and coziness of fall.

Just this weekend, I noticed a couple of trees in our neighborhood are just beginning the blush of color that signals the beauty to come. While I do love the colors of maples, especially the red ones, I hope they will hold off a bit longer. In my perfect world, I would have glorious color in October that slowly falls fades into the russet browns of November as the trees bed down for their long winter's nap.

Let's hope! What is fall like where you live? If you're way down south, what is spring looking like where you live? I've seen some of your planting photos already. ~smile~

Whatever it's like where you live, I hope that you have a wonderful week planning, preparing, and enjoying the little things.

  God bless!

  1. Our fall comes on slowly here in SC and full color is not until November. Last week my husband and I took breakfast to a nearby lakeside park and noticed that the dogwoods are already turning around the shore of the lake. The ones in our yard and woods are still green so the lake shore must be a different habitat.

    1. Breakfast in the park sounds wonderful. Interesting about the changing dogwoods. I like the leaves to start changing early in October.

  2. Hello! Happy Birthday to all your loves! And yes. I share your love of this cozy season for all the reasons you listed above. I am just beginning to see some fading of leaves here, and maybe a few overachievers who are starting to show their colors! Enjoy, my friend! Be cozy!

    1. Thank you Billie Jo. The leaves are doing the same here in southern Missouri. I'm looking forward to cool enough weather to feel cozy!

  3. I love Fall, and you are right summer is in the slipping stage. I have the box of Fall decorations out in the front room waiting until after the official date, because I just don't want to rush summer.

    1. I feel the same about rushing summer this year. I'm looking forward to fall, but I feel a bit flat about decorating with the same decorations that I've used for the last many many years. Maybe I'll just buy a few pumpkins this year.
      Thanks for writing!

    1. I haven't started decorating, but the pine tree out front is decorating the ground with big pinecones!

  5. Fall is my favorite season too, and October is my favorite month of the whole year. I so resonate with that Lucy Maud Montgomery quote, "I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers." Happy birthday to all your loves. For us, January/February is birthday month. We have 4 birthdays, an anniversary, and Valentine's Day in a 3-week period. I have my first grandchild due any day now, so September is going to be a birthday month for us from now on.

    1. Oh Patti! A grandbaby! How very exciting for your family. I hope you get to be close to him or her and influence him or her for the LORD. Enjoy!

We have one birthday in January. Then no more until May!

I'll be over in just a bit to see your blog.

      Happy week!

  6. Hey Laura Lane. This is birthday time for us too. My daughter Andee's birthday was last Wed., the 8th, mine today, and my mother's was August 30th, except mama is no longer with us. The post about your Mother was so sweet. I like how you described fall. I love fall too. Right now it is like summer again...hot and humid. Looking forward to cooler weather and faall colors.

    1. Happy late birthday Penny! Fall is just my favorite! This will be my fifth fall in a row to have breast surgery (I hate cancer's souvenirs.). I hope I'll recover quickly and be able to enjoy October and November. Either way, it will be a relief to have cooler weather.
      Blessings,
      Laura

  7. Laura, Autumn is my very favorite season too. I envy you up where you are. We down here in central Texas don't get a very long season. I love the trees with beautiful colorful leaves. I love pumpkins. I bought my first real pumpkin of the year. I am SO ready for Autumn! Love your blog.

    1. I hope your weather isn't too bad there in central Texas. It's been crazy for much of the south and the east. I'm in southern Missouri. Nothing special going on here, but it's been a bit dry. I saw pumpkins this evening at the garden center. I look forward to buying my first one soon.
Thanks for visiting me at Harvest Lane Cottage!
