Anxious or Depressed?

Sometimes I find myself thinking anxious thoughts in an out-of-control way.  Or I feel like the depression cloud is falling in on me.

The one thing that stops it in its tracks is resisting the devil...he must flee!

I do this by saying loudly, "NO!  or Stop!"  Then I speak the truth aloud.  Sometimes I read scriptures aloud.  Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.  It works because the Word works!  There's something about speaking the Word to myself  aloud, authoritatively that works.  I don't do this perfectly.  I don't always catch it right away.  But I'm improving.  ~smile~

Well, by now you've either decided I'm a little crazy, or you've got something to think and pray about.

May God bless you richly.  Oh, and one more thing....

IT'S GONNA BE OKAY!

May I suggest?

  1. Hi Laura thank you for such a special post - it meant a lot to me. All of my life I have fallen down a big pit - I am down there quite a lot and it is dark and horrid. The one thing that keeps me going is that I eventually will come out into the sunshine - sometimes it takes longer than others. I have tried to make a pal of my pit and while I am in there do a lot of talking to the Special Person upstairs - sometimes I feel He has forgotten me and I cry but then He always helps me out of the pit. You are a special soul Laura, Bless You and your lovely Family
    Lots of love

  3. Hello, I must say that I do not think this is crazy at all. We must speak words of faith and not let these feeling over take us. I believe we must use the authority He has given us!
Our words and His words should align!!
    Blessings, Roxy

  4. Hi Dorothy,

God is indeed the answer. You know, just this instant I realized something. Since January 2012, I have been reading and listening to the Bible a lot. By listening*, I can saturate myself with God's Word even while I am doing things around the house. I believe that has been part of my healing.

I am more aware of how my sin separated me from God.

I am more aware of how the love of Jesus, the Son of God, kept Him on the cross in punishment for my sins.

I am more aware of how His resurrection cancelled my debt of sin and washed me clean simply because I accepted and received God's forgiveness.

I am more aware of my need to give my life completely to God, and seek Him.

I am more aware that it's all grace not perfection.

I am more aware that it's all about Jesus, about God, about the Holy Spirit.

Draw close to God, dear Dorothy, He will draw close to you. His love for you is everlasting. Jesus is deeply in love with you. Will you fall more deeply in love with Jesus?

Goodness, I've got my preach on this morning. ~smile~
But, you know, when it comes down to it, only one thing is important.
What will our relationship be with Jesus Christ?

    Blessings to you!

    Laura

  5. Hi Katie,

I know what you mean about wanting to feel like it's going to be okay. I think that speaking aloud God's truth about myself and my situation has helped me.

I can rehearse in my mind the bad things about myself or my situation with fretting, worry, and self-condemnation. You know, I'm really good at that. When I do, I feel worse.

Or, I can saturate myself with God's Word and truth. I can rehearse in my mind His goodness, His mercy, the things that He's brought me through before. When I do, I feel better.

Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. You can speak life to yourself by speaking God's truth.

I think I've got my preach on, and I'm preaching to myself. ~smile~

Oh Katie, it sounds so simple when I'm typing it. I know it's not. I know that it's usually not instant either. It is worth pursuing Him. Jesus Christ died so that we can have direct access to God. God promises that we will find Him when we seek Him with our whole heart.*

    *Jeremiah 29:13
"And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart."

    Go for it!

    Blessings to you,
    Laura

  6. Laura,

what a special post! thanks for sharing your thoughts, I believe the more we submerse (sp?) ourselves in God's word the better it will be. You reading out loud and saying "stop" or "no" are great ways to keep your emotions from going down. I need to try that next time I feel my emotions taking off with me.

  15. My counselor once described the difference to me as anxiety is looking into the future and worrying while depression is looking back into the past with sadness. That's why living in the present moment is so important.

  16. Thank you, I needed that encouragement this morning! Also I loved the picture of the heart, is precious to me. Walking down the beach a long time ago praying, I came across a heart shaped rock.I picked it up and carried around with me as a reminder of God's love for me and his concern for the details of my life. My grandson finds heart shaped rocks and he picks them up and says, "Look Nanny! A heart shaped rock! A reminder that God loves us!
