Welcome to another thrifty week at Harvest Lane Cottage. I'm so glad you've found me! Each week I share my thrifty and frugal projects, ways of saving money, and my blessings from God.

Dear Reader,

It's been a better week for me. Thursday was actually a good day for me. Praise God! I am trying to focus on doing the things that mom does best rather than spending my energy on just anything. I've been learning a lot about managing my side effects. I am hoping that will be helpful when I take chemo again next Tuesday. I request prayer for chemo day. It took me two days of chemo last time because of side effects. I hope that the doctor will make the adjustments needed to help me handle it better. God bless the doctors and nurses. They've been amazing!

This week's miracle: A double-edged axe fell from the workbench and landed a fraction of an inch from my husband's toes! God is protecting my family. I plead the Blood of Jesus over them for protection often. God is so good. Thank you LORD my strength!

God bless you all, thank you for your patience with me.

I also thank you for all the love you've shown and the prayers you've prayed. God will make a way where there seems to be no way. God bless you all!

A Verse for You
"The LORD is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation. He is my God. He is my God, and I will praise Him, my father's God, and I will exalt Him."

Here's my thrifty week!

  • Hubby planned the week's menu based on the food we had on hand, so it kept the grocery bill lower.
  • Monday night's dinner was a turkey we were given for Christmas along with mashed potatoes and gravy. The whole meal probably cost us a buck fifty out-of-pocket.
  • I received gifts from my dad, Karla, Cheryl, Michelle, Beth, and Marilyn. Thank you all for your kindness to me and for showing love to me in a tangible way. I am encouraged and strengthened!
  • Major real estate investment! Lowell cleared out seven cubic feet! Hallelujah! Now I need to work on my closet!
  • Leftovers make a meal!
  • Kids carrying food from home for lunches at work.
  • My husband was able to help my daughter whose car broke down on the side of the road. Thank you God for keeping her safe!
  • A big box of books is ready to be donated. When I get them out of the house, that will be a few more cubic feet of real estate investment!

What are you doing in your home this week?

    1. Hi Angela, I don't know if that's happened on anyone's blog or not. I'm glad you noticed. I cannot remember which blog is yours. Will you remind me please and give me the link?

  7. Hello dearest! I am happy the side effects are better and thankful for all your blessings. I was blessed with a crochet order that will help fund a new cell phone that is badly needed. We also were able to get a lot of work done in the hobby room. May actually get it done some day!

    1. Oh how exciting! I am so very glad for you. I love it when God makes a way where there seems to be no way. I am still amazed at his provision for fighting this cancer. Six months ago it would have been impossible. It was a small thing to God to sell a few cattle to pay for it. Oh thank you God for all those cattle on a thousand hills!

  8. I'm glad you're feeling a bit more normal. I hope that you feel better as your body gets more adjusted to the chemo...does that ever happen?!

Wow about the axe story. I have one of those myself from back when I was right out of college. Long story short- Major car pile up around me on an L.A. freeway. One car from opposite side actually flew over my car, missing it. Somehow (my guardian angel, no doubt!!) I managed to hit the breaks at just the right intervals to miss the flying car and not hit the person in front of me and not get hit from the passenger van behind me. I know that feeling of total awe at missing major disaster.

I had a more productive week, despite being a little under the weather. Took my time getting things done and didn't pressure myself relentlessly. I even got in a couple of brief, but restful catnaps. Not sure I napped, but I was definitely in the very-relaxed zone!

I got some nice sale fabric to re-cover two sofa pillows. I'm hoping to get to those next week.

I'm reading that wonderful series of books that Jes at Pilgrims had quoted from. By Janette Oke. I think it's the Seasons series. 4 books, starts in Summer. Josh is the main character. Anyhow, I'm on the 3rd/Winter book. I highly recommend the series if you're looking for a good inspirational read.

Enjoy your weekend & I hope you get to do something fun from your bucket list!

  9. Oh yes, I read that series many years ago. I think it's still in on the shelf. It might be nice to read it again. I'm glad you are feeling better, too. Your story is definitely miraculous! Praise God for it!
    Have a pleasant weekend!

  11. Laura,
I'm glad your week is better. Definitely glad the Lord protected your husband's toes! That's a scary thing to happen.
Our thrifty meal for the week was Tuesday for lunch we had chicken salad sandwiches from chicken I had canned last month. It was nice because we had guests over and it would have been tempting to order out.

  13. I am so thankful for your inspiration to ALWAYS see the the positive and good side of things..even if they don't always seem to be. I am finding it easier and easier to "Look on the Sunny Side" because of you. Hanging laundry today, calling for a miserably hot and humid 3-4 days..upper 90's-100+ As I go out to hang clothes, the wind is blowing about 20 mph, making it a challenge to hang clothes, BUT..it feels absolutely wonderful and keeps the gnats far away! Thank you God. Another blessing today. We bought 2 calves and 2 goats for our little farm yesterday. They were also selling small lots of Hay..anywhere from 12-20+ bale piles. Told hubby it would be nice to have a few bales on hand when we shut the one goat up to kid any day now. But can't really haul goats and calves in with Hay and keep it in tact. Figured I would pull grass by hand for a few days if necessary. This a.m. when our roofer showed up, he told us there were some bales that had fallen off a rack about 1/2 mile down the road..were laying along side road and in ditch. We went down and picked up what had been 3-4 bales of hay. How is THAT for the Good Lord providing!!! Didn't cost anything but a few minutes to pick it up. I was smiling ear to ear just thinking about God's timing. You rest dear lady, I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Asking God to deliver a tender hug to you today. Karla

    1. Oh Karla, I'm not always positive, but it sure helps when I am. God is just so good even in my bad times. I can always see his hand at work. Last night I was just fussy though, 'cause I just don't want to do chemo. ~grin~ Of course, that upset my family 'cause they know it's chemo or .... Of course I will keep going. I just don't want to. Thank God for good friends and family to support me in prayer and in so many ways. I'll owe a debt of love and prayer to all!

  14. I'm so thankful that the little package I sent arrived at just the right time to bless your heart Laura! So thankful too for the protection of the Lord with that ax falling! And that your daughter was safely rescued by your husband, and for all the real estate you have now acquired, I love how you look at it that way! You continue to be in my prayers daily, and as the Lord brings you to mind throughout the day, I pray for you and your family. With much love and hugs to you dear friend!
